  • This study focused on the sediment reduction effects of VFS (vegetative filter strip) systems for the general characteristics of uplands in Korea. General conditions of upland fields were investigated through national scales of annual agricultural statistics. 7-15 % of slope with loam soil was the dominant types of uplands, and the hydrologic soil group feature usually belong to Type B. The common sizes of uplands were bigger than 0.1 ha and less than 0.2 ha, and 86.2 % of them account for less than 1.0 ha. With this information, 0.1 ha, 0.5 ha, and 1.0 ha of uplands with various shapes and 7-15 % of slopes were considered for the VFS system simulations. 20 mm, 40 mm, and 100 mm of daily precipitation were applied. As a result, the trapping efficiencies of VFS systems were obtained 37.4~100 % for 7 % slope and 18.1~98.0 % for 15 % slope of the less than 1.0ha of uplands. As rainfall increased, sediment loads also increased with slope and slope length increase. Also as size and slope of uplands and slope length increased with VFS length decrease, the trapping efficiency decreased for the same amount of rainfall. The optimum lengths of VFS systems for the givien upland conditions were suggested based on the modelling results with condition of VFS length less than 20 % of upland areas.

  • This study is a development of quality scale and a measurement of quality levels for the Hospital Information System(HIS) used in the hospital industry. This study is to provide decision-making guidelines for hospital managers, system analysts, and software designers, and to provide feedback for the users' information needs. The target people of the study were medical doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and clerical staff. The service contexts of usability were diagnosis/treatment, nursing, medicine preparation, and treatment fee receipt/claim. The quality factors were the efficiency, effectiveness, and satisfaction of IS09241-11. This study shows that the current domestic HISs are mostly based on patient diagnosis/treatment and treatment fee accounting, and that other quality scales are necessary according to different job categories, specializations, positions, and service domains. Especially, the low quality of HIS was found in the abnormal service processing, information sharing by outside institutions, and standardization. It may be added that the HIS should be improved and developed in these respects.

  • Rolling-sliding, cyclic contact of wheel and rail progressively alters the microstructure of the contacting steels, eventually leading to micro-scale crack initiation, wear and macro-scale crack growth in the railhead. Relating the microstructural changes to subsequent wear and cracking is being accomplished through modelling at three spatial scales: (i) bulk material (ii) multi-grain and (iii) sub-grain. The models incorporate detailed information from metallurgical examinations of used rails and tested rail material. The initial 2-dimensional models representing the rail material are being further developed into 3-dimensional models. Modelling is taking account of thermal effects, and traffic patterns to which the rails are exposed.

  • In this paper, we investigate the optimal base position and joint configuration of a planar wheeled mobile manipulator in terms of manipulability measure. Taking into account the level of coordination between a manipulator and a platform, both local and global optimization problems are considered. First, based on the kinematic models of a mobile manipulator, the manipulability measures are expressed along with the analysis of the configurational dependency. Second, the geometric symmetry of a mobile manipulator in view of manipulability measure is analyzed, and for some base positions, the best and worst joint configurations are determined, Third, with reverence to the maximum, minimum, and average manipulability measures, the optimal base positions are determined, and the percent improvements due to the base relocation are discussed considering the relative scales among the platform size, the wheel radius, and the link length.

  • In order to assess the environmental risk of pesticides, information is usually required on the likelihood of exposure of organisms to the constituents of pesticides, expressed as a predicted environmental concentrations (PECs) and the likely effects of the constituents of pesticides on aquatic and terrestrial organisms, expressed as a predicted no-effect concentrations (PNECs). In this paper, the pesticide fate model, RICEWQ alone and coupled with the pesticide movement model, RIVWQ was used to simulate the potential for predicting the environmental concentrations of pesticides in paddy fields and adjacent surface water systems. The RICEWQ model was successfully calibrated against field data in poinding depth for paddy field. For the assessment of importance for water and pesticide management conditions and field scales, the integrated RICEWQ-RIVWQ model was simulated by the scenario analysis. The results of this study can be used as a basic information for assessing the environmental risk of pesticides.

  • The problem towards crowd behavior recognition in a serious clustered scene is extremely challenged on account of variable scales with non-uniformity. This paper aims to propose a crowed behavior classification framework based on a transferring hybrid network blending 3D res-net with inception-v3. First, the 3D res-inception network is presented so as to learn the augmented visual feature of UCF 101. Then the target dataset is applied to fine-tune the network parameters in an attempt to classify the behavior of densely crowded scenes. Finally, a transferred entropy function is used to calculate the probability of multiple labels in accordance with these features. Experimental results show that the proposed method could greatly improve the accuracy of crowd behavior recognition and enhance the accuracy of multiple label classification.

  • As electronic devices technology scales down into the deep-submicron to achieve high-density, low power and high performance integrated circuits, multiple bit upsets by soft errors have become a major threat to on-chip memory systems. To address the soft error problem, single error correction, double error detection and double adjacent error correction (SEC-DED-DAEC) codes have been recently proposed. But these codes do not troubleshoot mis-correction problem. We propose the SEC-DED_DAEC code with without mis-correction. The decoder for proposed code is implemented as hardware and verified. The results show that there is no mis-correction in the proposed codes and the decoder can be employed on-chip memory system.

  • This work presents a novel facial descriptor, which is named as multiscale adaptive local directional texture pattern (MALDTP) and employed for expression recognition. We apply an adaptive threshold value to encode facial image in different scales, and concatenate a series of histograms based on the MALDTP to generate facial descriptor in term of Gabor filters. In addition, some dedicated experiments were conducted to evaluate the performance of the MALDTP method in a person-independent way. The experimental results demonstrate that our proposed method achieves higher recognition rate than local directional texture pattern (LDTP). Moreover, the MALDTP method has lower computational complexity, fewer storage space and higher classification accuracy than local Gabor binary pattern histogram sequence (LGBPHS) method. In a nutshell, the proposed MALDTP method can not only avoid choosing the threshold by experience but also contain much more structural and contrast information of facial image than LDTP.
