  • There are currently various types of alternative schools which has diverse goals and traits in Korea. Education suited to educational principles can't be carried out, as long as mathematics education in alternative schools is same as one in the regular schools. In this thesis the problems of mathematics education which is conducted in alternative schools for maladjusted students will be examined in three aspects of teaching contents, teaching methods, and teaching environments. And we will study about mathematics education that use mathematical history as one way of mathematics education for the alternative school students.

  • This study is to investigate the effects of a mathematics history lecture on elementary students' math learning. Pre- and post-tests were done for 33 6th grade students before and after 3-units of mathematics history lecture by a mathematician. The results show that the lecture improved students' interests and confidence on math. Especially, the tests present a positive change in students' attitudes on math and results in an increased curiosity on and willingness to study math. This study shows a consistent result with previous studies of teaming effects of introducing mathematics history in math. This study also highlights that even 3-units of math history lecture can significantly improve students' attitude and belief on math learning. Given the positive effects of math history lecture on students' math loaming, it is implicated that math history be included in the formal elementary math curriculum and more participation of math history experts in math.learning processes is needed.

  • Hans Freudenthal made important contributions to algebraic topology and geometry. He also made significant contributions in history of mathematics and mathematics education. In the 1970s, his intervention prevented the Netherlands from the movement of "new math". He had a very important role as a founder of realistic mathematics education and became famous internationally by that. Because he raised the profile of ICMI strongly, Bass used the expression 'Freudenthal Era' for the period that Freudenthal was the president of ICMI. Now many mathematics educator agree to use the Freudenthal Era when they mention about the history of ICMI. In this paper, we present on the life of Freudenthal and his contributions for mathematics education, especially ICMI.

  • The main purpose of this paper is to develope elementary mathematics teaching-learning programs for pre-service elementary teachers. The elementary mathematics education program developed in this work is divided into two parts: One is the theory, the other is the practice. The theory deals with the foundations of mathematics, the objectives of mathematics education, the history of mathematics education in Korea, the psychology of mathematics learning, the theories of mathematics teaching and learning, and the methods of assessment. With respect to the practice, this study examines the background knowledge and activities of numbers and their operation, geometry, measurement, statistics and probability, pattern and function.

  • In this study, we investigate integrated educations as an alternative educational method. I look around the developments of the integrated educations from MST education through STEAM education, especially in mathematics education. I analyzed integrated educations such as MST, STS, STEM, STEAM educations and compare them to each other, in mathematics education. And I discuss how to apply STEAM education to Korean mathematics education. I suggest a proper integrated education, in particular, STEAM education, as one that is suitable for Korean mathematics education.

We are mainly investigated the 'Erlanger Antrittsrede' in 1872 that showed Klein's view on early mathematics education and the 'Meraner Lehrplan f$\"{u}$r Mathematik' in 1905 that Widely known, the basis of the curriculum of modern mathematics education. Based on this, We discusses the educational implications-the purpose and methods of mathematics education, teacher education and so on.
