A switching differentiator that can estimate the 1st-order time-derivative of a time-varying signal was proposed, and it is extended later to the higher-order switching differentiator(HOSD) that can observe higher-order time-derivatives of a time-varying signal in previous works. By using HOSD, higher-order time-derivatives can be estimated without peaking or chattering, and it has an asymptotic tracking performance. However, there exist many design constants to be determined in HOSD. In this paper, a method of reducing the number of design constants is proposed to solve the problem. Simulations reveal the effectiveness of the proposed method.
The performance of speech recognition system is degraded by the mismatch between training and test environments. Many studies have been presented to compensate for noise components in the cepstral domain. Recently, higher order cepstral moment normalization method has been introduced to improve recognition accuracy. In this paper, we present real-time high order moment normalization method with post-processing smoothing filter to reduce the parameter estimation error in higher order moment computation. In experiments using Aurora2 database, we obtained error rate reduction of 44.7% with proposed algorithm in comparison with baseline system.
The acoustic performance of reactive type single expansion chamber can be calculated theoretically by plane wave theory. But higher order model should be considered to widen the frequency range. Mode matching method has been developed to consider higher order modes, but very complicated algebra should be used. Munjal suggested a numerical collocation method, which can overcome the shortcomings of mode matching method, using the compatibility conditions for acoustic pressure and particle velocity at the junctions of area discontinuities. But the restriction of Munjal's method is that the ratio between the area of inlet(or outlet) pipe and that of chamber must be natural number. In this paper, the new method was suggested to overcome the shortcomings of Munjal's method. The predictions by this method was also compared with those by the finite element method and Munjal's method in order to demonstrate the accuracy of the modified method presented here.
The purpose of the study was to design and develop the performance assessment problems and the rubric of holistic evaluation approach for elementary school students in higher levels (6 graders). Problems include 6 tasks related to all content areas such as number and operation, etc. In addition, the results show the analyses of children's problem solving process and investigate how the performance assessment problems could be developed in order to develop children's higher-order thinking and problem solving skills.
The performance of muffler can be improved for a frequency range of interest by moving inlet and outlet locations. And optimal location of inlet and outlet can be determined to improve the acoustic performance. The optimum design using FEM, however, may take a very long time and be very hard to take inlet and outlet locations as design variables. In this paper, the acoustic performance of reactive type single expansion chamber muffler is predicted using higher order mode theory. The sensitivity analysis of transmission loss with respect to the location of inlet and outlet is suggested. And the acoustic power transmission coefficient for a frequency of interest is used as cost function. Optimum location of inlet and outlet is determined to minimize cost function by using SUMT algorithm.
Adaptive algorithms based on the higher order error criterion such as the LVCMS and the LMF show performance degradation if input signal contains additive noise with a heavier-tailed density. Conventional analysis often neglects higher order terms in the recursion and my not suit for prediction exact behavior of these higher order algorithms. This paper presents a new convergence analysis which contains all the higher order term in the recursion. The analysis shows that the higher order terms, which are often neglected, dose not affect the upper bound on the step size but the misadjustment. However, the effect decreases sharply proportional to the square of the step size.

This study analyzed the impact of Higher-order resources on profit sustainability for domestic companies using a mathematical statistical model. Higher-order resources refer to resources that do not directly affect profits but influence other resources that directly contribute to profits. As a result of analysis using 30 years of actual data from more than 650 domestic companies, the average duration of competitive advantage including high-order resources was found to be about twice as long as the period suggested by the autoregressive model excluding high-order resources. Through this, if companies want to earn more profits over a long period of time than their competitors, they must not only possess resources that are more valuable, rare, difficult to imitate, and non-substitutable compared to their competitors, but also that higher-order resources can contribute to changes in these resources over time. It was confirmed that it must lead the long-term profit difference. High-level resources include strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions (M&A) capabilities, and good forecasting.

In this paper, beam finite elements with higher-order derivatives' continuity are formulated and evaluated for various boundary conditions. All the beam elements are based on Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. These higher-order beam elements are often required to analyze structures by using newly developed higher-order beam theories and/or non-classical beam theories based on nonlocal elasticity. It is however rare to assess the performance of such elements in terms of boundary and loading conditions. To this end, two higher-order beam elements are formulated, in which $C^2$ and $C^3$ continuities of the deflection are enforced, respectively. Three different boundary conditions are then applied to solve beam structures, such as cantilever, simply-support and clamped-hinge conditions. In addition to conventional Euler-Bernoulli beam boundary conditions, the effect of higher-order boundary conditions is investigated. Depending on the boundary conditions, the oscillatory behavior of deflections is observed. Especially the geometric boundary conditions are problematic, which trigger unstable solutions when higher-order deflections are prescribed. It is expected that the results obtained herein serve as a guideline for higher-order derivatives' continuous finite elements.

The acoustic performance of reactive type single expansion chamber can be calculated theoretically by plane wave theory. But higher order modes should be considered to widen the frequency range. Munjal has suggested the method for analyzing the acoustic properties of simple expansion chamber with taking into consideration of higher order mode of inlet/outlet. But his method cannot predict the acoustic properties exactly when the dimensions of inlet/outlet and expansion chamber have not integer multiples. In this paper the new method was suggested to overcome the shortcomings of Munjal's method The predictions by this method were also compared with those by the finite element method.
This paper presents a study on the performance of the higher-order moments for speech/music classification. For a successful speech/music classifier, extracting features that allow direct access to the relevant speech or music specific information is crucial. In addition to the conventional variance-based features, we utilize the higher-order moments of features, such as skewness and kurtosis. Moreover, we investigate the subband decomposition parameters in extracting features, which improves classification accuracy. Experiments on two speech/music datasets, which are publicly available, were performed and show that the higher-order moment features can improve classification accuracy when combined with the conventional variance-based features.
