Results: The major findings of this study are as follows: 1) there were statistical differences in OHQoL for spouse presence, educational level, monthly income, self-rated health, number of teeth and chronic disease, and types of denture. 2) OHQoL was positively related to age, number of chronic disease and nutrition. Also, OHQoL was negatively related to educational level, monthly income, number of teeth, and diet habit. 3) Significant factors influencing OHQoL were self-rated health and nutritional status. Conclusion: Based on these results, it is necessary to do further study on oral health of those who have 20 or more teeth. • Purpose: This study was performed to determine the levels of psychosocial distress among high school students to reveal the various related factors. Methods: Self-administered questionnaires were administered between June 1st and July 31th, 2006, to 992 different high school students in Daejeon City. The survey items included questions concerning the subjects' family and school life characteristics, health-related behaviors, sense of self-esteem, and locus of control. Results: The results showed that 27.8% of the subjects were categorized as high risk stress, 66.6% as latent stress, and 5.5% as normal. The level of psychosocial distress was found to be influenced by various related factors such as family and school life characteristics, health-related behaviors and personality traits (locus of control, self-esteem). Conclusion: The above results of the study suggest that the more stresses the high school students felt, the higher the correlation with self esteem and self control. Therefore, it is required that there be more development of programs designed towards harmonizing human relationships, promoting regular life styles and positive self perceptions; as well as building self confidence and assisting in course selection. Also, there is a need for further research and education in accessing effective strategies for coping with stress.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate Korean blue-collar workers' Health-related Quality of Life (HRQoL) and influencing factors in Korean blue-collar workers. Methods: Participants in this study were 109 Korean blue-collar workers. The survey included health-related, work-related, and psycho-social factors. SF-36 was used to measure HRQoL. The data were analyzed using Pearson's correlation, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis. Results: In the hierarchical linear regression model, when subjects' psycho-social variables were included in the regression model, $R^2$ change was statistically significant. The significant predictors for HRQoL were education level (${\beta}=.26$, p=.023), depression (${\beta}=-.38$, p<.001), and self-efficacy (${\beta}=.23$, p<.001). Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that health care providers must have priority to consider psycho-social variables, especially depression and self-efficacy to improve HRQoL in Korean blue-collar workers.

  • Purpose: In this study analysis was done of utilization of rooming-in care in South Korean hospitals in order to examine the factors related to mothers and hospitals that affect rooming-in care. Methods: With the involvement of 254,414 mothers who gave birth across 953 hospitals, the analysis used the health insurance qualification data of the National Health Insurance Corporations and Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service (2006). Factors associated with rooming-in care were analyzed using a GEE logistic regression analysis to consider factors related to both mothers and hospitals. Results: Only 45.1% of the mothers used rooming-in care. The results of the regression analysis revealed that individual factors of the mothers were not associated with rooming-in care, whereas group factors of the hospitals were. Rooming-in care use was primarily related to small hospital, location of hospital, and higher nurse staffing level. Conclusion: The findings of this study indicate that the utilization of rooming-in care is not associated with factors an individual mother, but rather with the group factors of the hospitals. Thus, a policy-based approach considering both of these types of factors is required to enhance the utilization of rooming-in care.
