  • In this paper, the optimal design conditions for hardware implementation of the Secure Hash Algorithm3-512 (SHA3-512) hash function were analyzed. Five SHA3-512 hash cores with data-path of 64-bit, 320-bit, 640-bit, 960-bit, and 1600-bit were designed, and their functionality were verified by RTL simulation. Based on the results synthesized with Xilinx Virtex-5 FPGA device, we evaluated the performance of the SHA3-512 hash cores, including maximum frequency, throughput, and occupied slices. The analysis results show that the best hardware performance of SHA3-512 hash core can be achieved by designing it with 1600-bit data-path.

  • In this paper, we present a new preimage attack on MJH, a double-block-length block cipher-based hash function. Currently, the best attack requires $O(2^{3n/2})$ queries for the 2n-bit MJH hash function based on an n-bit block cipher, while our attack requires $O(n2^n)$ queries and the same amount of memory, significantly improving the query complexity compared to the existing attack.

  • A Cellular Automaton(CA) is a dynamical system in which space and time are discrete, the state of each cell is unite and is updated by local interaction. Since the characteristics of CA is diffusion and local interaction, CA is used by crypto-systems and VLSI structure. In this study, we proposed a hash function based on the concept of 2-dimensional cellular automata and analyzed the proposed hash function.

  • In this paper, we propose a secure and efficient secret sharing scheme Based on wide pipe hash function This scheme provides the property to share multiple secrets and allows participants to be added/deleted dynamically, without haying to redistribute new secret shares. Proposed scheme has advantage to detect cheating and identify of all cheater, regardless of their number. Futhermore, it is more secure and efficient than previous schemes based on hash function.

  • Many RFID authentication protocols have been proposed to build a secure ubiquitous environment. However, existing protocols do not respond recent attacks appropriately and they perform many hash operations to authenticate a large number of tags. In this paper, we propose a hash function-based secure authentication protocol for improving efficiency in RFID system. The proposed protocol is safe to passive attacks and active attacks, and requires only 2 hash operations in a tag and 3 hash operations in a database. Accordingly, the proposed protocol is very effective in RFID system environment which is composed to low-cost tags and a database handling many tags.

  • One-way hash chains are important cryptographic primitives and have been used as building blocks of various cryptographic applications. Advantages of one-way hash chains are their simplicity and efficiency for generation based on low-powered processors with short time. However, a drawback of one-way hash chains is their difficulty of control to compute interval values of one-way hash chains. That is, when hash values in one-way hash chain are used as encryption keys, if one hash value is compromised, then the attacker can compute other encryption keys from the compromised hash value. Therefore, direct use of one-way hash chains as encryption keys is limited to many cryptographic applications, such as pay per view system and DRM system. In this paper, we propose a new concept which is called interval hash chain using a hash function. In particular, proposed hash chains are made for only computing interval hash values by using two different one-way hash chains. The proposed scheme can be applied to contents encryption scheme for grading and partially usable contents in DRM system.

  • This paper introduces the concept of a dual hash function to amplify security in a quantum key distribution system. We show the use of the relationship between quantum error correction and security to provide security amplification. Also, in terms of security amplification, the approach shows that phase error correction offers better security. We describe the process of enhancing security using the universal hash function using the BB84 protocol, which is a typical example of QKD. Finally, the deterministic universal hash function induces the security to be evaluated in the quantum Pauli channel without depending on the length of the message.

  • The whirlpool hash function adopted as an ISO / IEC standard 10118-3 by the international standardization organization is an algorithm that provides message integrity based on an SPN (Substitution Permutation Network) structure similar to AES block cipher. In this paper, we describe the hardware implementation of the Whirlpool hash function. The round block is designed with a 64-bit data path and encryption is performed over 10 rounds. To minimize area, key expansion and encryption algorithms use the same hardware. The Whirlpool hash function was modeled using Verilog HDL, and simulation was performed with ModelSim to verify normal operation.

  • A hash function is a function that takes bit strings of arbitrary length to bit string of fixed length. A cellular automata is a finite state machine and has the property of generating pseudorandom numbers efficiently by combinational logics of neighbour cells. In [1] and [7], hash functions based on cellular automata which can be implemented efficiently in hardware were proposed. In this paper, we show that we can find collisions of these hash functions with probability 0.46875 and 0.5 respectively.
