  • Trip distribution plays an important role in the analysis and network evaluation phases of the transportation and the traffic planing process. In this paper, the authors propose an algorithm for estimating the trip distribution between each pair of zones such as harbours and straits. The algorithm is formulated by using the observed data and introducing the concept of entropy when observed data between harbours were not existed. In order to examine the feasbility , the proposed algorithm is applied to ships on traffic route in Hanryu Sudo and in Korea costal waterway. And also, its validity is examined by comparing another algorithm through statistical test.

  • This study aims to investigate the fouling bryozoans which attach to artificial structures of Korean ports and harbours. The materials have been collected from 56 sites during the period from 2008 to 2012. As a result of the present study, 40 species of fouling bryozoans were identified. The most abundant species are Bugula neritina (Linnaeus, 1758), Tricellaria occidentalis (Trask, 1857), Watersipora subtoquata (d'Orbigny, 1852), and Cryptosula pallasiana (Moll, 1803). Three species, Flustrellidra armata Grischenko, Seo and Min, 2010, Cauloramphus korensis Seo, 2001, and Parasmittina contraria Seo, 1993 are endemic to Korea. A total of 70 species of fouling bryozoans have been reported in Korea with 16 new bryozoans resulting from this study.

  • These days the surroundings around harbours are rapidly changing. Particularly in the age of Pacific Rim it is rather clear that the competition among the harbours in Northeast Asia region where are so many of worldwidely famous harbours might be intense. From 1980s on the industrialization and urbanization in the area of Kwang Yand-Bay, thanks to the regional development program, have been speedily under way. And in the year of 1987 the 1st development program of Kwang Yang-Bay container quay was started and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 1997. As the completion of the program it is expected that in 1998 the newly-opening Kwang Yang-Bay container quay on one hand will play a role in relieving the awaiting-time of vessels in Pusan Port, and on the other hand it will contribute to the balanced development of the country. In this context this thesis conducted Its study on the effect of the specification and facilities of a harbour, and especially on the effect on the regional economy resulted by the development & developmental static of Kwang Yang-Bay container quay. And progressively in the thesis the plan to provide Kwang Yang-Bay container quay with competitiveness was suggested.

  • The design of harbours, as with any other system design, must be an optimization process. In this study, a global examination of the different constraints in coastal engineering was performed and an optimization problem was defined. The problem has multiple objectives, and the criteria to be minimized are the structure cost and wave height disturbance inside a harbour. As concluded in this survey, the constraints are predefined parameters, mandatory constraints or optional constraints. All of these constraints are categorized into four categories: environmental, fluid mechanical, structural and manoeuvring.

  • When the strong wind or long wave energy is transferred into the water body of a harbour, the harbour exhibits oscillatory resonant motions which often cause significant damage to moored ships and navigation hazards. Therefore, a number of theoretical and numerical investigations of such resonant oscillations have been carried out but most of them were limited to harbours connected with open sea of constant depth. • Contaminated sediments more than 30 million/$m^3$ is generated from dredging work for harbours and coastal maintenance in Korea. Approximately 300 million/$m^3$ of sediments is dredged to deepen harbours and shipping lanes in US and of which $3{\sim}12million/m^3$ is highly contaminated. Although much is known about technologies for the remediation of heavy metal contaminated soil, much less is known about the treatment of contaminated sediment. In general, negatively charged fine particles will migrate towards positively charged system of electrodes under the influence of electrophoresis. However, the electrically induced migration of colloidal particles contaminated with heavy metals may be hindered by the positively charged heavy metal contaminants adsorbed onto the soil surfaces depending on the contamination level. This paper demonstrates settling behaviour of clayey soil by comparison with electrophoretic particle movement under the effects of heavy metal contamination, applied electric field strength, and its polarity changed by the electrode configuration.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out how to improve tourism competitiveness of cruise harbours in Korea by analyzing tourism satisfaction level of international cruise visitors to Korea, who are increasing rapidly as Northeast Asian cruise tourism market is growing up. In this study we analyzed the factors of effects on tourism satisfaction level by Chinese visitors, Japanese visitors and English speaking visitors respectively based on the results of "International Cruise Visitor Survey 2012". The results of this study show that the individual satisfaction level of port of calling & tour schedule, immigration procedures, transportation, shopping influenced overall tourism satisfaction level by countries. It implied that those attributes should be reflected hereafter when we establish a marketing strategy for each of cruise cities. This study has a great significance in that those results suggest useful information when we make plans not only for activating cruise harbours but also for cruise tour marketing.

  • Heavy metal concentration of Fe, Zn, Cu, Cd and Pb were analysed from seaweeds (Ulva pertusa, Sargassum thunbergii, Caulacanthus okamurae), sediments and seawater at the two experimental sites of Daebul and Sabjin industrial complex in Mokpo coastal area with a control site (Heugsando). Highest values of heavy metals were found at two experimental sites influencing by various pollution sources such as industrial drains, sewage and harbours. In contrast, the lowest concentrations was observed at the control site without any pollution source. The concentration levels of accumulated heavy metals were in the following order: seaweeds > sediments > seawater. Similar spatial distribution patterns were observed at the seaweeds, sediments and seawater for the highest mean values of the different heavy metals. This result show that seaweeds could be used as a biomonitors of heavy metals at coastal region.

  • Most of small harbours are suffering serious harbour siltation problems in the eastern coast of Korea. Also, many of them necessitate maintenance dredging every year. In order to solve these problems, we have to predict the amount of previous harbour siltation. In the present study, numerical prediction of the harbour siltation has been accomplished using numerical model of 3D beach deformation around a structure. And, also the validity of the model has been confirmed by the field investigation.
