The purity of gypsum and quantitation of impurities of flue gas gypsum will not only play an important role in deciding of the optimal condition during a trial run of FGD (flue gas desulfurization), but also can be utilized in quality control of gypsum. The purity of gypsum can be determined from combined water, sulfur trioxide and calcium concentration. We found that the thermal analysis by TGA (thermogravimetric analysis) was the most accurate and convenient method to determine the purity of gypsum. This method will be done in a hour and the results were reproducible. On the other hand, the best way of the analysis of impurities in gypsum was fusion method using $LiBO_2$ as a fusion agent. We also determined the amount of $CO_2$ gas to analyze magnesium carbonate and calcium carbonate contents. The analyses of combined water by TGA, fusion method followed by ICP-AES (inductively coupled plasmaatomic emission spectroscopy) and determination of $CO_2$ amount can lead to more accurate and convenient method for gypsum analysis.
This study was conducted to obtain granular crystalline gypsum that can be used as raw material for plaster boards or cements from waste Plaster board. We could disintegrate preferentially gypsum to gypsum needle in 10${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ or less size among the contents of waste plaster board (gypsum, paper, fiber, and inorganic material .etc.) by hydration afterwards the dehydration of crushed waste plaster board. In this case, the optimum conditions for minimizing the size of gypsum were dehydration rate of 75%~ 85%, hydration concentration of 10~20%, agitation speed of 250~400rpm, crushing size of 2cm or less. Gypsum of 98.21% grade was recovered with 99.0% yield from under screenings of 325mesh wet screening which followed by the dehydration-hydration process performed in the conditions of dehydration rate of 80%, hydration concentration of 15%, agitation speed of 300rpm, crushing size of 2cm or less. Subsequently, Plate-like Crystalline gypsum of is 151${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ size and the grade of 99.49% with the Yield of 98.0% from the upper screenings of 270mesh wet screening carried out after the re-crystallization of the recovered gypsum needle slurry.

The re-crystallization process for recovering granular crystalline gypsum from phospho-gypsum have proposed. The process consists of two stages; at the first stage, needle-like fine gypsum is recovered with under-product of 325 mesh wet screening after the speedy hydration of dehydrated phospho-gypsum, and at the second stage, granular crystalline gypsum is recovered with upper-product of 325 mesh wet screening after dehydration and re-crystallization of the needle-like fine gypsum in $Na_2SO_4$ solution. This paper is mainly focused on the influence of dehydration time, cooling speed of temperature and re-crystallization temperature on the recovery of granular crystalline gypsum. And the re-crystallization velocity of needle-like fine gypsum at room temperature and the variation of $Ca^{2+}$ concentration of gypsum slurry during over all re-crystallization process were also discussed.

The flue gas desulfurization (FGD) process is currently the most effective process utilized to remove sulfur dioxide from stack gases of coal-fired plants. However, FGD systems use a lot of limestone as desulfurizing agent. In this study, we use limestone sludge, which is a by-product of the steel industry, to replace the desulfurizing agent of the FGD system. The limestone particle size is found to be unrelated to the desulfurizing rate; the gypsum purity, however, is related. Limestone sludge mixes with limestone slurry delivered at a constant rate in a desulfurizing agent with organic acid are expected to lead to a high desulfurization efficiency and high quality by-product (gypsum).

The purpose of this study is to develop the hybrid sound-absorbing materials that is made from organic polyurethane sponge impregnated with inorganic binder solutions. The inorganic slurry which is made from ${\alpha}$-hemihydrate gypsum mixed with 60% water, and various additives including plasticizer are used as binder. The test specimens are prepared and tested for sound absorption performance by the impedance tube methods. From the test results, noise reduction coefficient(NRC) of development materials specimen bound by the inorganic binder slurry is 0.41. They are 2 times or more higher than commercial products specimens bound by organic materials only which have NRC values in the range of 0.14 to 0.28. The polyurethane sponge specimens impregnated with inorganic gypsum slurry binder have a good balance between performance and cost, and have proper properties in density, thermal conductivity, non-combustible, and absence of harmful substances as sound-absorbing internal boards for noise barrier wall. It is apparent that the good sound absorption materials can be produced according to the optimum mix design that is recommended from this study.
This study was carried out for the purpose of recovering the refined gypsum from waste phosphogypsum. The refined gypsum was recovered as a under product of 325 mesh wet screening followed by dehydration and hydration stage. The influence of dehydration temperature and time, dehydration rate, aging time, slurry density of hydration and sonication time on the yield and grade of gypsum were investigated. The refined gypsum of $94{\sim}96%$ grade is recovered in 95% yield by wet screening after selective dehydration and hydration process, from the phosphogypsum. For the better separation efficiency of gypsum, it is recommended to treat the phosphogypsum at the conditions of as follows; 6hr's dehydration at $140^{\circ}C$, hydration slury density of $3{\sim}10%$, hydration temperature of $20{\sim}30^{\circ}C$, hydration time of 2hr. In additions, addition of sodium citrate 0.005M and sonication of $5{\sim}10min.$ are effective for increase the recovery of gypsum. On the other hand, aging the dehydrated gypsum 16 hours or longer make decrease the recovery of gypsum remarkably.
This study focused on manufacturing an inorganic insulation material set with various amounts of calcium-sulfoaluminate (CSA) (hauyne) content for enhancing both workability (demolding, handling) and the high thermal insulating property. To carry out the experiment, the amounts of CSA utilized were 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%, with anhydrous gypsum added in equal proportion to produce a stable formation. As the content of CSA increased, a sinking phenomenon occurred because of the hydration reaction from the slurry, so it was difficult to utilize a retarder normally used in the cement manufacturing process. However, an RCOOM surfactant was able to solve the local clumping problem from cement and CSA and obtain a rapid retarding effect, so it was included in this process at 0.3%. Furthermore, the cement fineness was not 7000 ㎠/g but rather 3300 ~ 4000 ㎠/g to prevent a rapid temperature increase in the slurry. The specific gravity of the sample manufactured with 20% CSA was approximately 0.11 g/㎤, and its thermal conductivity was 0.041 W/m·K, providing an excellent insulating property.

This study was carried out for to recover the purified crystalline gypsum from phosphogypsum by means of using it's crystallographical Properties. The dehydration of hydrated phosphogypsum to $\alpha$-hemihydrate is completed with the 2 hours treatment of it in $99^{\circ}C$ waterrs. The purified crystalline gypsum having the maximum size of $200{\mu}m$ was obtained by 325# wet screening after recrystallization of the $\alpha$-hemihydrate gypsum at the condition of $Na_2SO_4$ 10 wt%, slurry density 20%, $pH\;5{\sim}6,\;65^{\circ}C$ and 4hr. In this process, the yield of gypsum was 93.9% and its grade was 99%.
The properties of a investment material can be described by the consistency at the slurry state, the setting time, the compressive strength and the thermal expansion during the casting. In this study the effect of the production parameters which are included the ratio of quartz and cristobalite, the content of binder, the water powder ratio and the content and concentration of additives on the Properties of the gypsum-bonded investments has been investigated with help of the consistency test, the vicat needle test, the compressive strength test, the thermal expansion test, x-ray diffraction and DTA thermal differential test. The experimental results showed that the constitution of a investment with W/P ratio of 0.34, 30% of gypsum, 0.8% aluminium sulfate, 2% magnesium sulfate, 0.6% sodium phosphate was adapted for the properties of the KDA Spec. No. 13 type I investment. The important experimental results are summarized as follows. 1. The consistency of the investment decreased with increasing amount of aluminium sulfate and decreasing amount of sodium phosphate. An addition of magnesium sulfate up to 2% an increase of the consistency was shown. But 3% magnesium sulfate in investment showed a decrease of the consistency. The consistency did not vary significantly with a variation of the content of gypsum and cristobalite and the W/P ratio. 2. Aluminium sulfate and the magnesium sulfate promoted the hardening and the aluminium phosphate delayed the hardening. The setting time increased with amount of gypsum. The effect of the matrix on the setting time was insignificant. With the W/P ratio of 0.34 the setting time was 14 min. 3. The compressive strength decreased with the amount of aluminium sulfate up to 0.25% and increased with the amount of aluminium sulfate greater than 3%. The compressive strength decreased as decreasing the amount of magnesium sulfate and gypsum and as increasing the W/P ratio. The effect of the refractory on the compressive strength was also not significant. With the W/P ratio of 0.34 the compressive strength was $34Kg/mm^2$. 4. The 1st thermal expansion was found at the temperature near and the steady state or the contraction stage was found at the temperature between $250^{\circ}C$ and $500^{\circ}C$. After this stage the 2nd thermal expansion took place at the temperature near $500^{\circ}C$. The amount of thermal expansion increased with decreasing the content of magnesium sulfate, aluminium sulfate and gypsum and the W/P ratio. And the amount of thermal expansion increased as the content of sodium phosphate and cristobalite. With the W/P ratio of 0.34 the amount of total expansion was 1.2%.
