Presenting symbolic concepts consistent with the culture of the host country and international trends at international events will win the favor of the world and raise the image of the host country. The international event mascot symbolically represents the host country's unique culture, and is a good means to enhance the sense of belonging and pride of its members and to display the image of the host country in an outwardly. This study discussed the symbolic elements of the host country characteristics reflected in FIFA's World Cup event mascot. A total of 14 mascots of World Cup events were held from 1966 to 2018, and their materials can be divided into animals, plants, people and creations. The mascot was applied with the characteristic elements of regional specialties, the flag of the host country, symbolic attire, language of the hosting area, social issues and the mascot's dress, posture, props and expression characters of soccer events were used as symbolic elements. First of all, the implications of the research were that mascots were more strongly expressing the "football" signifying element, the theme of events, rather than regional characteristics. Second, the use of 'national flag' was highlighted among the elements of expressing regional characteristics. Third, 'animal' was preferred for mascot material. Fourth, mascots have become integrated with 'cultural perfumes' and play an extended role in raising social awareness. Implications derived from the classification of characteristics and symbol representation elements raised in this study will be used as a basis for the planning of international event mascots.
As a case study, this paper aims to analyze the outcome of culture projects that are, like the building project of culture city, comprehensively funded by integrating individual projects with various purposes. Considering that there is no assessment indicators on the performance of culture city building project, it tries to propose and analyze indicators for evaluating the outcome, influence, and effect of the project, by taking into account social, cultural, and economical effect. The analysis result demonstrates the building project of specialized region in culture has bigger income effect than the construction project of cultural facilities or cultural voucher program. Because income growth leads to consumption growth, a project type with bigger income effect has more influence on industrial growth. In other words, the study shows that comprehensive funding projects, by integrating programs related to cultural citizens, cultural programs, and cultural space, is more effective for sustainable cultural development of a region. And it means the way of government assistance for cultural projects does need to change from individual project-based to comprehensive funding project-based.
The study of complementary medicine for the mental illness of modern people has been made up of academic fields. Psychotherapy, art therapy, literary therapy and dance therapy are among them, but these non-integrated studies are extremely limited to apply to reality. Collaboration with the medical community seeking supplementary measures after drug treatment is also a problem, and it is even more difficult to institutionalize them in a policy way. In response, the study suggested a shift to a space-oriented treatment paradigm by studying the value of space that most treatment programs value. Based on the theory of integrated literature therapy developed in Germany and introduced into Korea, the Tetra system was applied to one of Korea's cultural heritages. And I presented a sample of how to program the characteristics of the old house space. Kwon Seong-baek old house in Andong was considered a representative space and analyzed. As a similar case, we looked at the Healian Sun Village, the Knife Village in Germany, and the Temple Stay of Bongeunsa Temple to find out the actual conditions of space utilization. Accordingly, space treatment programs such as walking, writing poems, reading poems, and writing letters were presented by analyzing old houses with a Tetra system. This is significant as the first study to incorporate spatialization and placeability into the program.
Nosong-dong is used to be center of the administration, education and transportation in Jeonju. It has ironically been the location of the city's prostitution quarter 'called Seonmichon'. This place is recently selected as an area of urban regeneration by Jeonju. The project has involved numerous programs which gradually transfer this place for the women's rights and arts. This paper focuses on exploring the socio-cultural meanings of a community museum, an archive for gender equality, and an exhibition site for local artists. The Seonmichon quarter has long been stigmatized as an area of ill repute and regarded with contempt by the surrounding neighborhood. It is space where polarized interests are entangled. City authority has tried to reflect this by presenting a variety of perspectives on the Seonmichon district. An initiative of the community museum has been its hosting of several exhibitions around the themes of women's rights and community arts. The most remarkable aspect of the exhibitions that have taken place in the heart of the Seonmichon district has been the active participation of local community residents as a catalyst for progressive social change. The paper's overall purpose is to provide an introduction and analyze the process of development of the exhibition initiative, and further examine the social role and meaning of the community museum in Nosong-dong, as well as its future tasks and directions.
The purpose of this study is to have an opportunity to enhance the role of cultural intermediaries in the region as interest in the cultural media sector increased with the implementation of the Law for Promotion of Regional Culture. First, I discussed the need to pay attention to the local Cultural Intermediaries group as the background of the discussion, confirming that the existing research on the cultural mediation sector was focused on cultural workers in public institutions and government projects. Next, for the theoretical discussion, I reviewed the role of cultural intermediaries contributing to the production of meaning via the concept of cultural intermediaries by Pierre Bourdieu, and described that the mediation of regions and cultures began to emerge as an alternative to the existing centralized structure of cultural production in the context of Korea after the late 1990s. It was found that practices that mediate the region and culture were developed around the group of public artists and cultural activists and the intermediary group played a role in revealing various aspects of the region and dynamically constructing the local public sphere through these cultural practices. Lastly, local curator's cases (Space Beam, Space Imsi, Incheon Spectacle) were studied. The actual cases of activity were analyzed through the cultural practices by focusing on what alternative meanings had been produced in the region and how the region was represented. Each case showed the mediating activity that attempts to change the environment of life while sharing local issues with communities, projects that reconstructs the local professional art sector into a public sphere, and mediating activity that represents local daily culture and form networks through independent publications.

This article seeks to expand the current stuck performance of Hahoe mask play, which has great significance as a play and play for the audience. And I applied the method of expansion of the media conversion storytelling theory to create a new Chorangi Madang that conforms to the audience's needs and the spirit of the times. In addition to the performance of Yangban Seonbi Madang(Act of Nobleman and Scholar) which ends with an ambiguous reconciliation, we wanted to complete it in a way that even today's audiences could accept by applying the function of the Hahoebyeolsingut Talnori ambassador and the principle of implementation. And We writed it in a script. This article is meant to be an experimental study that attempted to transform traditional performing arts in the context of new creation of tradition. Preservation and transmission of traditional performing arts are important, but it is necessary to move forward according to the trend and spirit of the times.
This ethnographic study aimed to understand the emotional labor of traditional performing artists who hide and control their emotions in performances and the components and characteristics of their emotional labor by means of in-depth interviews with traditional performing artists and Giorgi's analysis method. As a result of the analysis, first, the factors that lead to emotional labor of traditional performing artists can be divided into external and internal ones. The external factors arose from expressing various emotions while creating or suppressing their own emotions in an effort to draw out the emotions of the audience. Also, emotional labor occurred depending on the performance place, performance type and audience reaction. The internal factors consisted of the emotional burden experienced due to concerns over mistakes and audience satisfaction as they voluntarily commit themselves to the performance in order to satisfy the audience. Second, complex emotions that remain after the performance sometimes lead to aftereffects of emotional labor. Third, factors of emotional labor that originate from belonging to an organization had an influence, which resulted in their considering job change or resignation. Fourth, emotional labor arises from the specificity of the traditional performing arts field, that is, negative perceptions and unfair internal practices of traditional performing arts. The study showed that traditional performing artists relieve their emotional labor through hobbies and chatting with colleagues, and took the emotional labor as granted, not recognizing that the occupational emotional labor as emotional labor. This study is significant in that it recognized and analyzed traditional performing artists as emotional workers and focused on the emotional labor components of traditional performing artists.
The Literature Museum Network aims to realize the legislative purpose of the Literature Promotion Act and achieve balanced development of local literature centers across the country. In the Literature Museum Network, the literature museum network support center will be established by region to take charge of cooperation projects between local literature centers, which will be the culmination of the National Literature Museum of Korea. It is intended to test-run various projects planned by the Munhakwan Network Support Center to create derivative contents, or to establish a regional hub literature center in charge of education and other affairs of the literature museum's workforce. If the existing metropolitan administrative districts are used to form zones, the entire country can be organized into four zones. They include the Seoul-Gyeonggi Literature Museum Network (23 local literature centers), the Gangwon Chungcheong Literature Museum Network (32 local literature centers), the Yeongnam Literature Museum Network (30 local literature centers), and the Honam Jeju Literature Museum Network (22 local literature centers). One literature museum network support center will be established for each region and one local literature center will be selected as the hub literature center. The Literature Hall Network Support Center is in charge of collecting and managing literary materials, developing contents and programs, promoting and foreign cooperation, etc. The hub literature museum will be in charge of pilot operation of content and programs, training and education of experts in the literature museum, and running joint storage facilities. This structural system and efficient operation of the literature museum network will ultimately provide an opportunity for the formation of cultural governance in which the power and public nature of the establishment of literary promotion infrastructure are secured.
This study aims to critically consider the local cultural policies of the government and local governments by village mural. Village murals, which began to be painted in the late 1990s, have been a nationwide cultural phenomenon for decades. In particular, it was consistently used as an important element of various local cultural policies implemented by the government and local governments. The government and local governments have been working on the project for two purposes: 'improving the residential environment' and 'activating tourism' but it has largely focused on 'activating tourism'. This study grasped the concrete status of major village murals across the country through field surveys, one of the case study methods. Also, through the analysis of official documents, the government and local governments operating in the village mural project were analyzed for the policy basis and administrative management plan. As a result of on-site surveys, most of the village murals across the country had problems such as uniform subject matter, low level representation, and poor follow-up management. This is partly based on the experiences and abilities of organizations and artists who participated in the village mural project, but fundamentally, it is due to the projects of the government and local governments that focused on short-term visual tourism rather than long-term improvement of the residential environment. It was confirmed that the projects of the government and local governments were carried out through vertical integration and that there were problems in the actual work, such as requiring specific topics, subject matter, designs and colors. As a result, the village murals 'objectify' the residents and 'romanticized' the place, resulting in a unified visual representation. Therefore, this study suggests that the administration and accounting should be strictly managed, but in actual work, the vertical integration structure should be eased by simplifying various documents and procedures, as well as rich cultural understanding of the target place, selection of various topics, and original subject matter and expressions.
This study examined at an exploratory level what should be considered for developing underdeveloped areas using local cultural resources. This study analyzed the psychological and behavioral differences between those who have visited underdeveloped areas developed using local cultural resources and those who haven't, to draw out the implications for the urban regeneration. The results showed that there were differences in respondents' motivation to visit, perception of what needs to be done for the tourism development of underdeveloped areas, perception of the expected effects of developing cultural contents, and consumption behaviors. In other words, those who have visited the tourist sites where had been underdeveloped areas have a more positive attitude toward visit motivations, needs for tourist site development, expected effects of local cultural content development, and consumption behaviors than those who haven't. It means that it is of the utmost importance to induce as many people as possible into tourist sites in underdeveloped areas. This exploratory study is expected to offer some implications for developing underdeveloped areas as tourist sites, a form of urban regeneration.
