  • Identifying gifted students in the valid method is one of the most important issues in the filed of gifted education. The Identification processes should be based on the theoretically sound definition of the gifted. However, the concept of giftedness varies according to the culture and philosophy of each society. Furthemore, we do not have any direct measure for evaluating students' giftedness. So far. there is no satisfactory single tool which is universally accepted as an absolute identification method. Recently, programs for gifted students are regarded as the channel for entering prestigious high schools as well as competitive colleges by many parents in Korea. As the result, education business for preparing young students to be accepted to gifted programs are growing rapidly. This study was performed in order to (1)analyze the problems in the current identification methods, (2)establish the strategies for identifying gifted students whom the future society needs, and (3)suggest the procedures and tools which can be adapted for the proposed identification methods.

  • Several researches have been done on the meaning of probabilistic thinking level and its pedagogical implication. However, there is lack of trials of using topics in probability to educate mathematically gifted students. As a result, we don't have sound understanding on gifted students' probabilistic thinking level and how to facilitate it through educational program. This study examines the meaning of probabilistic thinking level, develops and applies tasks in probability for gifted education. Having the analysis of the student responses, this study tries to investigate how teachers who participate in an in-service teacher education program interpret the developed tasks and student responses. In conclusion, this study shows the possible approach of gifted education using probability tasks to facilitate gifted students' probabilistic thinking level and its potential in identification of giftedness through observation.

  • The personal introduction of 2009 academic year Korea Science Academy (KSA) freshman, 143 persons, recommendation that is filled with giftedness cases and observation recording through observing the students by guidance teacher and professor, and Observation recording paper about students that is made by parents, were analyzed in order to investigate behavior characteristics of the Scientifically Gifted by Computer Assisted Qualitative Data Analysis System (CAQDAS). We could divide behavior characteristics of the Scientifically Gifted to 5 main categories by study results. As well as this study may make up for foreign researches and existing researches dependent on quantitative research about behavior characteristics of the Scientifically Gifted, This can be used as a useful data for development of instrument for identifying the scientifically Gifted and teaching-studying program by supporting understand behavior characteristics of the Scientifically Gifted as a specific area of giftedness.

  • This paper examined its possibility and made its new definition by finding relevant bases in order to make a close inquiry into its Identity and direction at this point when cyber-based gifted education academy is established and operated again by its necessity And 4 models which can be used in special education for the gifted were developed making a link with special education for the gifted by collecting and re-classifying cyber educational methods developed by basic research as priority of the educational method which is considered to be the most urgent issue in practical cyber learning. It is a project-type cooperation education model, an information collection-type research education model, a community-type discussion education model, and a problem focus-type e-PBL education model. To apply developed leaching-learning models to reality, students at gifted education academy in Gyeonggi Cyber Gifted Province were imputed models in different ways respectively for 4 months. As a result of analysis and statistical data of activity level and satisfaction level of students who participated in learning activity, it appeared that high level of satisfaction and active activity level were induced compared to the previous method based on tasks. It is expected that this paper will provide the bases when each cyber-based gifted education academy plans operation plan later on, and it will provide proper methods when cyber guidance teachers plan class activities.

  • The focus of gifted education program for math should not only be on how to select gifted students but also on how to magnify students' potential ability. This thesis supports Vygotsky's view, which provides an insight into gifted education field as an 'acquired giftedness' theory. The issues in this thesis suggest proper classroom models for current gifted education program together with moderate classroom atmosphere and optimum role of teachers.

  • Parents were considered as crucial to the promotion of giftedness, because of the family's mediating role. The relations between children's cognitive development and social adjustment were supposed in the prediction of the development of high-level abilities in gifted children, as well as parent-child interaction. Forty four gifted children and 42 ordinary children were responded to K-ABC and social competence tests. Results were found that gifted children who scored high in cognitive abilites were less likely social adjustment. The mothers of gilfted children more often stimulated and broadened their children's experiences. Responsive parenting seems to have a more profound effect on potential high achievers than of average ability.

  • In this study, the instrument of mathematical problem posing ability and mathematical creativity ability tests were considered, and the differences between gifted and regular students in the ability were investigated by the test. The instrument consists of each 10 items and 5 items, and verified its quality due to reliability, validity and discrimination. Participants were 218 regular and 100 gifted students from seventh grade. As a result, not only problem solving but also mathematical creativity and problem posing could be the characteristics of the giftedness.

  • In order to achieve this goal, we consider the following issues: a retrospective analysis of the concepts of "giftedness", "intellectually gifted personality"; the experience of working with gifted youth abroad is analyzed; features of work with gifted student youth are revealed; educational and methodological support and practical work with gifted students are analyzed; an empirical study was conducted to determine the attitude of gifted youth to organizational forms of work with them; developed a scientific circle as a form of work with intellectually gifted student youth. A set of methods is used, in particular: theoretical methods: comparison, analysis, synthesis and generalization; empirical methods: analysis of documentation and results of pedagogical activity, observation.

  • The importance of identifying gifted children during early childhood is becoming recognized. Nonetheless, most researchers preferred to study the primary and secondary levels where children are already and more clearly demonstrating what talents they have, and where more reliable predictions of gifted may be made. Comparatively lisle work has been done in this area. When we identify giftedness during early childhood, we have to consider the potential of the young children rather than on actual achievement. Giftedness during early childhood is still developing and less stable than that of older children and this prevents us from making firm and accurate predictions based on children's actual achievement. Dynamic assessment, based on Vygotsky's concept of the zone of proximal development(ZPD), suggests a new idea in the way the gifted young children are identified. In light of dynamic assessment, for identifying the potential giftedness of young children. we need to involve measuring both unassisted and assisted performance. Dynamic assessment usually consists of a test-intervene-retest format that focuses attention on the improvement in child performance when an adult provides mediated assistance on how to master the testing task. The advantages of the dynamic assessment are as follows: First, the dynamic assessment approach can provide a useful means for assessing young gifted child who have not demonstrated high ability on traditional identification method. Second, the dynamic assessment approach can assess the learning process of young children. Third, the dynamic assessment can lead an individualized education by the early identification of young gifted children. Fourth, the dynamic assessment can be a more accurate predictor of potential by linking diagnosis and instruction. Thus, it can make us provide an educational treatment effectively for young gifted children.
