  • We present a diagnostic method for the quasi-likelihood estimators in generalized linear models. Since these estimators can be usually obtained by iteratively reweighted least squares which are well known to be very sensitive to unusual data, a diagnostic step is indispensable to analysis of data. We extend the local influence approach based on the maximum likelihood function to that on the quasi-likelihood function. Under several perturbation schemes local influence diagnostics are derived. An illustrative example is given and we compare the results provided by local influence and deletion.

  • Maximum product of spacings estimator is proposed in this paper as a competent alternative of maximum likelihood estimator for the parameters of exponentiated-Weibull distribution, which does work even when the maximum likelihood estimator does not exist. In addition, a Bayes type estimator known as generalized maximum likelihood estimator is also obtained for both of the shape parameters of the aforesaid distribution. Though, the closed form solutions for these proposed estimators do not exist yet these can be obtained by simple appropriate numerical techniques. The relative performances of estimators are compared on the basis of their relative risk efficiencies obtained under symmetric and asymmetric losses. An example based on simulated data is considered for illustration.

  • In this paper, we derive the approximate maximum likelihood estimators of the scale parameter and the location parameter in a generalized extreme value distribution under multiply Type-II censoring by the approximate maximum likelihood estimation method. We compare the proposed estimators in the sense of the mean squared error for various censored samples.

  • Parameters and quantiles of the 2-parameter generalized Pareto distribution were estimated using the methods of regular moments, modified moments, probability weighted moments, linear moments, maximum likelihood, and entropy for Monte Carlo-generated samples. The performance of these seven estimators was statistically compared, with the objective of identifying the most robust estimator. It was found that in general the methods of probability-weighted moments and L-moments performed better than the methods of maximum likelihood estimation, moments and entropy, especially for smaller values of the coefficient of variation and probability of exceedance.

  • This paper derives maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) and some approximate MLEs (AMLEs) of unknown parameters of the generalized exponential distribution when data are lower record values. We derive approximate Bayes estimators through importance sampling and obtain corresponding Bayes predictive intervals for unknown parameters for lower record values from the generalized exponential distribution. For illustrative purposes, we examine the validity of the proposed estimation method by using real and simulated data.

  • The multiply Type-II hybrid censoring scheme is disadvantaged by an experiment time that is too long. To overcome this limitation, we propose a generalized multiply Type-II hybrid censoring scheme. Some estimators of the scale parameter of the exponential distribution are derived under a generalized multiply Type-II hybrid censoring scheme. First, the maximum likelihood estimator of the scale parameter of the exponential distribution is obtained under the proposed censoring scheme. Second, we obtain the Bayes estimators under different loss functions with a noninformative prior and an informative prior. We approximate the Bayes estimators by Lindleys approximation and the Tierney-Kadane method since the posterior distributions obtained by the two priors are complicated. In addition, the Bayes estimators are obtained by using the Markov Chain Monte Carlo samples. Finally, all proposed estimators are compared in the sense of the mean squared error through the Monte Carlo simulation and applied to real data.

  • In this paper, we derive maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) and approximate maximum likelihood estimators (AMLEs) of unknown parameters in a generalized half logistic distribution under Type-II hybrid censoring. We also obtain approximate confidence intervals using asymptotic variance and covariance matrices based on the MLEs and the AMLEs. As an illustration, we examine the validity of the proposed estimation using real data. Finally, we compare the proposed estimators in the sense of the mean squared error (MSE), bias, and length of the approximate confidence interval through a Monte Carlo simulation for various censoring schemes.

  • Sarhan and Kundu (2009) introduced a new distribution named as the generalized linear failure rate distribution. This distribution generalizes several well known distributions. The probability density function of the generalized linear failure rate distribution can be right skewed or unimodal and its hazard function can be increasing, decreasing or bathtub shaped. This distribution can be used quite effectively to analyze lifetime data in place of linear failure rate, generalized exponential and generalized Rayleigh distributions. In this paper, we apply the simulated annealing algorithm to obtain the maximum likelihood point estimates of the parameters of the generalized linear failure rate distribution. Simulated annealing algorithm can not only find the global optimum; it is also less likely to fail because it is a very robust algorithm. The estimators obtained using simulated annealing algorithm have been compared with the corresponding traditional maximum likelihood estimators for their risks.

  • The generalized logit model of nominal type with random regressors is studied for bootstrapping. In particular, asymptotic normality and consistency of bootstrap model estimators are derived. It is shown that the bootstrap approximation to the distribution of the maximum likelihood estimators is valid for alsomt all sample sequences.

  • Entropy is an important term in statistical mechanics that was originally defined in the second law of thermodynamics. In this paper, we consider the maximum likelihood estimation (MLE), maximum product spacings estimation (MPSE) and Bayesian estimation of the entropy of an inverse Weibull distribution (InW) under a generalized type I progressive hybrid censoring scheme (GePH). The MLE and MPSE of the entropy cannot be obtained in closed form; therefore, we propose using the Newton-Raphson algorithm to solve it. Further, the Bayesian estimators for the entropy of InW based on squared error loss function (SqL), precautionary loss function (PrL), general entropy loss function (GeL) and linex loss function (LiL) are derived. In addition, we derive the Lindley's approximate method (LiA) of the Bayesian estimates. Monte Carlo simulations are conducted to compare the results among MLE, MPSE, and Bayesian estimators. A real data set based on the GePH is also analyzed for illustrative purposes.
