  • The author derives a general explicit formula and presents an heuristic algorithm for solving Baker’s model. The examples show that this new approximate solution procedure for determining near optimum inspection intervals is more accurate than the ones suggested by Chung (1993) and Vaurio (1994), and is more efficient computationally than the one suggested by Hariga (1996). The construction and solution of the simplest profit model for an exponential failure distribution were presented in Baker (1990), and approximate analytical results were obtained by Chung (1993) and Vaurio (1994). The author will therefore mainly devote the following discussion to the problem of further approximating optimum inspection intervals.

  • We investigate multi user joint rate scheduling and power allocation problem for a delay sensitive CDMA systems. First, we characterize the existing two user joint rate scheduling and power allocation. We then extend the problem to the case of the multi user systems. In general, there is no simple optimum solution for the multi user scheduling problem. To that end, we propose a sub optimum solution, termed 'virtual user approach'. We show the performance of the virtual user approach to verify the benefit of complexity.

  • In this paper we establish the general solution of the following functional equation with mixed type of quadratic and additive mappings f(mx+y)+f(mx-y)+2f(x)=f(x+y)+f(x-y)+2f(mx), where $m{\geq}2$ is a positive integer, and then investigate the generalized Hyers-Ulam stability of this equation in quasi-Banach spaces.

  • In this paper, the optimal homing guidance problem is investigated for the general missile/target models described in the state-space. The closed-form solution of the optimal guidance law derived, and its asymptotic properties are studied as the time-to-go goes to infinity or zero. Futhermore, several approximate solutions of the optimal guidance law are suggested for real-time applications.

  • The existence of a unique local generalized solution for the abstract functional evolution problem of the type $$ (FDE:\phi) x'(t) + A(t, x_t)x(t) \ni G(t, x_t), t \in [0, T], x_0 = \phi $$ in a general Banach spaces is considered. It is shown that $(FDE:\phi)$ could be considered with well-known fixed point theory and recent results for the functional differential equations involving the operator A(t).

  • In this paper, a class of constrained inverse eigenvalue problem for antisymmetric matrices and their optimal approximation problem are considered. Some sufficient and necessary conditions of the solvability for the inverse eigenvalue problem are given. A general representation of the solution is presented for a solvable case. Furthermore, an expression of the solution for the optimal approximation problem is given.

  • The parabolic Bergman space is the set of $L^p(\lambda)$-solution of the parabolic operator $L^{(\alpha)}$. In this paper, we study representin sequences on parabolic Bergman spaces. We establish a discrete version of the reproducing formula on parabolic Bergman spaces by using fractional derivatives of the fundamental solution of the parabolic operator.

  • In this paper, we obtain the general solution and the generalized Hyers-Ulam stability of the additive-quadratic functional equation f(x + y, z + w) + f(x + y, z - w) = 2f(x, z)+2f(x, w)+2f(y, z)+2f(y, w).

  • In this paper, we study the dynamical behavior of the one-dimensional convective Cahn-Hilliard equation(CCHE) on a periodic cell [$-{\pi},{\pi}$]. We prove that as the control parameter passes through the critical number, the CCHE bifurcates from the trivial solution to an attractor. We describe the bifurcated attractor in detail which gives the final patterns of solutions near the trivial solution.
