Combinational Effect of Moist Heating and Gamma Irradiation on The Inactivation of Trypsin Inhibitory Activity in Soybean

  • The combinational effect of gamma irradiation and moist heating on the trypsin inhibitor activity (TIA) in soaked and dried soybeans was evaluated by measuring the inhibition using N-benzoyl-DL-arginine-p-nitroanilide (BAPNA) as substrate. Gamma irradiation significantly decreased the TIA level in soybean at doses above 5 kGy, and the $ID_{50}$ (the gamma irradiation dose required to reach 50% inhibition) value for TIA was 13.53 kGy. Soaking prior to gamma irradiation significantly lowered the $ID_{50}$ to 8.44 kGy, and the soaking process enhanced the efficiency to inactivate TIA by as much as 48%. When soaking prior to gamma irradiation was followed by subsequent mild heating ($60^{\circ}C$) process, the $IT_{50}$ (heating time required to reach the 50% inhibition of TIA) value at even 1 kGy (5.28 min) was greatly reduced by over 50% compared to the level for the no-soaking process. In addition, the activation energy of soaking prior to gamma irradiation at 1 kGy was 2.45 kcal/mole, which was also about 50% lower than the 5.10 kcal/mole of dried soybean gamma-irradiated. Based on these results, soaking prior to gamma irradiation is an effective method for TIA inhibition. Furthermore, a combination of two or more processing methods such as soaking, heating and gamma irradiation is much more effective than any single processing method.

A Cross-Sectional Study on ${\gamma}-GTP$ and its Related Factors in Male Workers (일부 남성근로자에서 ${\gamma}-GTP$와 관련된 요인에 대한 단면연구)

  • Objective : To investigate gamma-Glutamyltransferase (${\gamma}-GTP$) and its related factors in male industrial workers. Method : Five hundred and tony male workers without heart disease, diabetes mellitus, renal disease, hepatitis, and other liver diseases were surveyed in October 1998. Blood samples were collected to test for ${\gamma}-GTP$, total-cholesterol and fasting blood glucose. A self-administered questionnaire survey on life style was also done. Results : The total geometric mean value of ${\gamma}-GTP$ was 30.6 U/L. According to a univariate analysis: age, BMI(body mass index, $kg/m^2$), alcohol consumption, current smoking, stress, diastolic blood pressure, and blood total cholesterol were significantly associated with ${\gamma}-GTP$(p<0.05). From a multiple regression analysis: BMI, alcohol consumption, current smoking, diastolic blood pressure and total-cholesterol were significantly related to ${\gamma}-GTP$(p<0.05). Coffee consumption was negatively related to ${\gamma}-GTP$, but not significantly. Conclusion : We recommend that a change in health behavior (i.e. reducing alcohol intake, controlling BMI and not smoking) is necessary to decrease ${\gamma}-GTP$ in male workers.

$PPAR_{\gamma}$ Ligand-binding Activity of Fragrin A Isolated from Mace (the Aril of Myristica fragrans Houtt.)

  • Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma ($PPAR_{\gamma}$), a member of the nuclear receptor of ligand-activated transcription factors, plays a key role in lipid and glucose metabolism or adipocytes differentiation. A lignan compound was isolated from mace (the aril of Myristica fragrans Houtt.) as a $PPAR_{\gamma}$ ligand, which was identified as fragrin A or 2-(4-allyl-2,6-dimethoxyphenoxy)-1-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-propane. To ascertain whether fragrin A has $PPAR_{\gamma}$ ligand-binding activity, it was performed that GAL-4/$PPAR_{\gamma}$ transactivation assay. $PPAR_{\gamma}$ ligand-binding activity of fragrin A increased 4.7, 6.6, and 7.3-fold at 3, 5, and $10{\mu}M$, respectively, when compared with a vehicle control. Fragrin A also enhanced adipocytes differentiation and increased the expression of $PPAR_{\gamma}$ target genes such as adipocytes fatty acid-binding protein (aP2), lipoprotein lipase (LPL), and phosphoenol pyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK). Furthermore, it significantly increased the expression level of glucose transporter 4 (GLUT4). These results indicate that fragrin A can be developed as a $PPAR_{\gamma}$ agonist for the improvement of insulin resistance associated with type 2 diabetes.

  • Let ${\gamma}{\equiv}\left{{\gamma}_{ij}\right}(0{\leq}i+j{\leq}2n)$ be a collection of complex numbers with ${\gamma}_{00}>0$ and ${\gamma}_{ji}={\bar{\gamma}}_{ij}$. The truncated complex moment problem for ${\gamma}$ entails finding a positive Borel measure ${\mu}$ supported in the complex plane ${\mathbb{C}}$ such that ${\gamma}_{ij}={\int}{\bar{z}}^{i}z^jd{\mu}(z)(0{\leq}i+j{\leq}2n)$. We solve this truncated moment problem with data in a circle and discuss the behavior of data in an extended moment matrix.

Characterization of Soluble Type Human Folate Receptor on Folate Binding and Transport (Soluble type의 human folate receptor의 folate 결합과 수송에 관한 특성)

  • We have cloned a soluble type human folate receptor(hFR type${\gamma}$) from human thymus cDNA library using the PCR amplification technique. To examine whether hFR type${\gamma}$ has a folate transport activity, CHO cells were transfected with the pcDNAhFR${\gamma}$ expression plasmid, and the stable cell line CHO/hFR${\gamma}$ expressing a high level of the hFR type${\gamma}$ was identified by northern and western blot analysis. The CHO/hFR${\gamma}$ cells produced a [$H^3$]folic acid binding protein in the culture medium. However, we couldn't detect any cell surface [$H^3$] folic acid binding and transport activities. The growth of the CHO/hFR${\gamma}$ cells was more rapidly inhibited than the wild type CHO cells in the low concentration folic acid media. These observations indicate that although soluble type human folate receptor can bind [$H^3$]folate, it does not involve in folate transport.

  • Let D be an integral domain, and let U be a group of units of D. Let $D^*=D-\{0\}$ and ${\Gamma}=D^*/U$ be the commutative cancellative semigroup under aU+bU=abU. We prove that $Cl(D)=Cl({\Gamma})$ and that D is a PvMD (resp., GCD-domain, Mori domain, Krull domain, factorial domain) if and only if ${\Gamma}$ is a PvMS(resp., GCD-semigroup, Mori semigroup, Krull semigroup, factorial semigroup). Let U=U(D) be the group of units of D. We also show that if D is integrally closed, then $D[{\Gamma}]$, the semigroup ring of ${\Gamma}$ over D, is an integrally closed domain with $Cl(D[{\Gamma}])=Cl(D){\oplus}Cl(D)$; hence D is a PvMD (resp., GCD-domain, Krull domain, factorial domain) if and only if $D[{\Gamma}]$ is.

  • 3 $Tocotrienol-{\alpha}-,\;{\gamma}-\;and\;{\delta}-tocotrienol-from$from latex(Hevea Brasiliensis) were isolated and the oily tocotrienol concentrates obtained. To isolate tocotrienols, the fractionation by semipreparative HPLC of the unsaponifiable fraction in the raw lipid extract from latex was carried out. By this method, the total content of tocotrienols in latex was ca. 400 ppm, and the purities of ${\alpha}-,\;{\gamma}-\;and\;{\delta}-tocotrienol$ were 98.3, 99.3 and 96.2%, respectively.

ISOMORPHISM CLASSES OF CAYLEY PERMUTATION GRAPHS

  • In this paper, we study the isomorphism problem of Cayley permutation graphs. We obtain a necessary and sufficient condition that two Cayley permutation graphs are isomrphic by a direction-preserving and color-preserving (positive/negative) natural isomorphism. The result says that if a graph G is the Cayley graph for a group $\Gamma$ then the number of direction-preserving and color-preserving positive natural isomorphism classes of Cayley permutation graphs of G is the number of double cosets of $\Gamma^\ell$ in $S_\Gamma$, where $S_\Gamma$ is the group of permutations on the elements of $\Gamma and \Gamma^\ell$ is the group of left translations by the elements of $\Gamma$. We obtain the number of the isomorphism classes by counting the double cosets.

  • Let U be a ${\sigma}$-square closed Lie ideal of a 2-torsion free ${\sigma}$-prime ${\Gamma}$-ring M. Let $d{\neq}1$ be an automorphism of M such that $[u,d(u)]_{\alpha}{\in}Z(M)$ on U, $d{\sigma}={\sigma}d$ on U, and there exists $u_0$ in $Sa_{\sigma}(M)$ with $M{\Gamma}u_0{\subseteq}U$. Then, $U{\subseteq}Z(M)$. By applying this result, we generalize the results of Oukhtite and Salhi respect to ${\Gamma}$-rings. Finally, for a non-zero derivation of a 2-torsion free ${\sigma}$-prime $\Gamma$-ring, we obtain suitable conditions under which the $\Gamma$-ring must be commutative.

  • Let M be a prime ${\Gamma}$-ring and let d be a derivation of M. If there exists a fixed integer n such that $(d(x){\alpha})^nd(x)=0$ for all $x{\in}M$ and ${\alpha}{\in}{\Gamma}$, then we prove that d(x) = 0 for all $x{\in}M$. This result can be extended to semiprime ${\Gamma}$-rings.
