Composition and Contents of Free Amino Acids and Phenolic Acid and Flavonoids of Imperata cylindrica Beauvois var. koenigii Root extracts (백모근 추출물의 유리아미노산 및 Phenolic acid와 Flavonoids 조성 및 함량)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the free amino acid and derivatives and phenolic acid and flavonoid compositions and contents of hot water and 95% ethanol extracts of Imperata cylindrica Beauvois var. koenigii root. The purpose of this study is to obtain basic data and to confirm their applicability as functional cosmetic and functional food ingredients on extracts. 15 kinds and 9 kinds of free amino acids were detected in both extracts, respectively. 5 kinds and 4 kinds of protein free-amino acid derivatives were detected in both extracts, respectively. Total phenol contents were 116.50 ± 0.06 and 140.10 ± 0.04 mg% in both extracts, respectively. The total flavonoid contents were 31.80 ± 0.03 and 43.90 ± 0.05 mg% in both extracts, respectively. 5 kinds and 6 kinds of phenolic acids were detected in both extracts, respectively. In the case of flavonoid analysis, no flavonoid compound was detected in the hot water extract while taxifolin was identified in the 95% ethanol extract. Based on the above results, the hot water and 95% ethanol extracts of I. cylindrica Beauvois var. koenigii root are rich in free amino acids, amino acid derivatives, phenolic acids and flavonoids which confirm their potential for applications in cosmeceuticals, nutricosmetics formulations and functional foods.

  • Recently, ICT Retail Convergence(IRC) has been rapidly increasing to improve consumer satisfaction and consumer experience. In this paper, we aim to diagnose IRC from consumers' point of view by reviewing the present status and value of IRC according to consumer purchase decision making process. Based on the previous studies in retail industry, we classified IRC into 4 types: Experience-specific tech(Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality); Information-specific tech(Artificial Intelligence and Big Data); Location-based tech(Radio Frequency Identification and Beacon); Payment-related tech(Fin-tech and Biometrics). Next, we found that there is a difference in value provided to consumers according to the type of technology, analysing the value by consumer purchase decision making process. This study can be useful to introduce IRC for improving consumer satisfaction as well as ICT and Retail. Also, it can be basic data for future technology studies with a consumer perspective.

Comparison of Dietary Habit, Lifestyle, Health Attitude and Self-efficacy by Upper Gastrointestinal Disease among Group Mental Health Care Facilities with Chronic Schizophrenia (정신요양시설 만성조현병환자의 상부위장관질환 유무에 따른 식습관, 생활습관, 건강태도 및 자기효능감 비교연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to compare lifestyle, dietary habit, health attitude and self-efficacy among chronic schizophrenia with upper gastrointestinal disease and chronic schizophrenia to improve lifestyle, dietary habit and health attitude, in each mental health care facilities field, it was attempted to provide basic data to search for alternatives to increase self-efficacy. This study surveyed them from February 20th to April 30th in 2019 for data collection. Data were analyzed using Chi-square test, Independent t-test and ANCOVA with SPSS/WIN 22.0. The sociodemographic factor of age and education, the lifestyle factors of carbonated drink and physical activity intensity, the dietary habit factors of overeat, snack, late night meals and fatty food, the other factor of self-efficacy show statistically significant differences among groups. The study provides meaningful data in finding distinctive features of Upper Gastrointestinal Disease among Group with Chronic Schizophrenia. The results indicate that need to develope a variety of intervention methods to promote lifestyle and dietary habit and to enhance self-efficacy of chronic schizophrenia.

Comparison of Oral Health Related Living Quality of the Elder with Physical Debilities & Ones Capable of Living at Homes (Using GOHAI Grouping) (거동불편노인과 자가 활동 가능노인의 구강건강관련 삶의 질 관련 비교 - GOHAI 군집화를 활용하여 -)

  • Purpose: This study conducted a survey on the elderly of 65 years and over with physical debilities and ones capable of living at home residing in Jeju Special Self-Government Province to compare and analyze demo-sociological characteristics and factors influencing on oral health related living quality. And also this study intended to provide basic data for developing effective public medical policies and health promotion programs to increase oral health related living quality of the elder. Methods: The elderly of 65 years and over living in Jeju Special Self-Government Province were interviewed individually from 7 February 2011 to 18 April and interview results of a total of 220 subjects were analysed for this study. Results: Current status of the elderly including ones with & without physical debilities influenced functional limitation and behavioral aspects of GOHAI criteria used in this study. The elderly with physical debilities experienced less limitation in food chewing and swallowing, and pronunciation than ones capable of living at home. On the analogy of the previous study(by Park, N. G., 2010) in which oral health related quality and satisfaction of life of the elderly with physical debilities were different due to their physical, circumstantial and psychological limitations, the former's oral health conditions are worse than the ones capable of living at home and because of medical care accessability limitation they suffer from deteriorated oral condition. By the comparison of factors influencing on the living quality relating to the oral health of the elderly with physical debilities and ones capable of living at home, 2 factors, age and living area, were meaningful factors commonly influencing on the oral health related living qualities of both. The elderly of 75 years and over were more affected by psychological and behavioral aspects of oral health related living quality than the ones of 65-74 years, and the ones living in country suffered from functional limitations, pains and discomfort more than ones in city. Additionally, being different from the elderly capable of living at home, the ones with physical debilities were influenced by the factors of average monthly income and medical security type. Conclusion: Improvement of programs and systems to increase oral health related quality of life needs to be carried out preferentially for the elderly of 75 years and over, and dwelling in country. Also this study suggests that the policy of paying the denture insurance allowance in 2012 need effective planning considering the elderly's current status, age, living area, medical security type.

Effects of Fisheries Technological Innovation on Growth per Capita across OECD Countries (수산부문 기술혁신이 OECD 회원국의 성장률에 미친 효과)

  • The environmental problems affecting marine resources and slow growth in the fisheries industry is causing many countries to look for alternative inputs that can boost the fisheries sector. This study focuses on the effects of technological innovation in the fisheries industry on the gross domestic product (GDP) per capita across Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries. Using a panel dataset, this study attempts to estimate the different effects of technological innovations in the fisheries industry from country to country using the differences-in-differences (DiD) method. After the DiD method, the Granger causality test is applied to determine the interactive relations between economic growth and the selected variables associated with technological innovation in the fisheries industry, such as government spending on fisheries R&D, the number of patents in fisheries, and employment. The results obtained from the DiD estimation show that government spending on fisheries R&D, fisheries technology development, and fisheries employment positively influences the GDP per capita across OECD counties. From the causality test, we found different bi-directional causal relationships between the GDP per capita and (spending) on fisheries technology development across countries.

Effect of Light Transmission on Composition and Somatic Cell count of Raw Milk (분광된 빛의 주사가 원유내 성분에 미치는 영향)

  • Measurement of compositions and somatic cells in raw milk by chemical methods usually requires a lot of time, skilled labor and expensive analytical equipments. Recently, near-infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS), which is a rapid, cost-effective and non-destructive technique, has been extensively used for safety and quality evaluation in the field of dairy products. However, less study has been performed to evaluate the effect of transmitted light on milk quality during NIRS analysis. Therefore, the objective of this study was to analyze the changes in milk quality using transmitted light. Raw milk samples collected from dairy farm from Siga prefecture in Japan were analyzed for fat, protein, lactose, solids not fat, total solids, milk urea and citric acid using the Milko scan 4000. Somatic cells in raw milk samples were counted by the Fossomatic 5000. Transmittance spectra of 50 ml raw milk samples were obtained by the Lax-Cute lighter in the 400 nm or less, 689 nm, 773 nm, 900 nm and 979 nm. As a result, milk fat as well as somatic cell count was increased by 2.6% and 9.0%, respectively. The other compositions were, however, changed within the relative error of the measurement. Further studies are needed to apply raw milk quality evaluation using the UV band by accumulating more samples and more data.

Principles for evaluating the clinical implementation of novel digital healthcare devices (첨단 디지털 헬스케어 의료기기를 진료에 도입할 때 평가원칙)

  • With growing interest in novel digital healthcare devices, such as artificial intelligence (AI) software for medical diagnosis and prediction, and their potential impacts on healthcare, discussions have taken place regarding the regulatory approval, coverage, and clinical implementation of these devices. Despite their potential, 'digital exceptionalism' (i.e., skipping the rigorous clinical validation of such digital tools) is creating significant concerns for patients and healthcare stakeholders. This white paper presents the positions of the Korean Society of Radiology, a leader in medical imaging and digital medicine, on the clinical validation, regulatory approval, coverage decisions, and clinical implementation of novel digital healthcare devices, especially AI software for medical diagnosis and prediction, and explains the scientific principles underlying those positions. Mere regulatory approval by the Food and Drug Administration of Korea, the United States, or other countries should be distinguished from coverage decisions and widespread clinical implementation, as regulatory approval only indicates that a digital tool is allowed for use in patients, not that the device is beneficial or recommended for patient care. Coverage or widespread clinical adoption of AI software tools should require a thorough clinical validation of safety, high accuracy proven by robust external validation, documented benefits for patient outcomes, and cost-effectiveness. The Korean Society of Radiology puts patients first when considering novel digital healthcare tools, and as an impartial professional organization that follows scientific principles and evidence, strives to provide correct information to the public, make reasonable policy suggestions, and build collaborative partnerships with industry and government for the good of our patients.

Nutritional Compositions of Varieties of Foxtail millet and Proso millet Developed in Korea (국내 육성 조와 기장 품종의 영양성분 특성)

  • Foxtail millet (Setaria italica L.) and proso millet (Panicum miliaceum L.) were not the major cereal crops in Korea. Although, they are attracting attention due to their nutritional excellence. This study focused on nutritional composition of Korean foxtail millet and proso millet varieties. The protein content of foxtail millet is lower than that of proso millet, and the fat content tends to be higher. Especially, Daname (foxtail millet) and Geumsilchal (proso millet) showed the highest protein content. Also, among these, Chohwangme (foxtail millet) and Manhongchal (proso millet) were the highest fat content, respectively. In the essential amino acids content results, these crops were rich in leucine, phenylalanine and valine. Also, lipids were composed of palmitic acid (C16:0), stearic acid (C18:0), oleic acid (C18:1), linoleic acid (C18:2), linolenic acid (C18:3), arachidic acid (C20:0), gadoleic acid (C20:1), and behenic acid (C22:0). Especially, linoleic acid content was the highest.

A Study on the legal system to trace the bycaught whale and dolphin meat in the market (혼획 고래 유통 이력 추적을 위한 제도 개선 방안 연구)

  • Whaling has been banned in Republic of Korea after the declaration of the moratorium on the commercial whaling by the International Whaling Commission (IWC) since 1986. Korean government followed the moratorium immediately. However whale meat market has been kept by the bycaught whales and dolphins. So Korean government established a rule to control and trace whale meat in the market in 2011. The rule has some loopholes to allow illegally taken whale meat smuggle into the market. This study investigates the flaws in the current rule and recommend the way to overcome that defects. The first step is to prevent the entry of the illegal whale meat into the market. Minor change of the current law would be a solution. The next measure is to increase the sampling rate of the whale DNA that allowed to distribute in the market. The DNA database would be a powerful tools to identify illegal whale meat which is existing in the market. Korean government is operating three kind of food traceability systems. However, because of the legal limitations and the opposition of the non-governmental animal rights organizations, it is difficult to include whale meat to the existing systems. So the last step is to establish a new Traceability System with a state-of-the-art IT technology like as blockchain. The three measures mentioned above would increase the transparency in the whale meat market and prevent the entry of the illegal products.

Evaluation of Phytochemical econtents and antioxidant activity of Korean common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L) landraces (한국 재래종 강낭콩 유전자원의 phytochemical 및 항산화 활성 평가)

  • The Korean common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) has been receiving increased attention as a functional food. The objective of this study was to reveal the phytochemicals genetic variation and antioxidant activity of 209 Korean common bean landraces. Antioxidant activity was evaluated with the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl-hydrate), ABTS (2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid), ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), and superoxide dismutase (SOD) assay. Antioxidant activities among common bean accessions showed wide variation. Four flavonoids (kaempferol, myricetin, quercetin, and naringenin) of the 209 Korean common bean landraces were measured using HPLC. Among them, kaempferol had the highest phytochemicals compared to the other three flavonoids. Using the relative antioxidant capacity index (RACI), it was found out that the IT104587 had the highest antioxidant activity. Meanwhile, in clustering analysis, the Korean common bean landraces were classified into three clusters. Among them, cluster II contained 64 landraces with higher antioxidant activities and phytochemicals than the other clusters, except DPPH. The results could provide information on the valuable Korean common bean landraces for the development of new common bean varieties.
