Bridge-type structures analysis using RMP concept considering shear and bending flexibility

  • Researchers have elaborated several accurate methods to calculate member-end rotations or moments, directly, for bridge-type structures. Recently, the concept of rotation and moment propagation (RMP) has been presented considering bending flexibility, only. Through which, in spite of moment distribution method, all joints are free resulting in rotation and moment emit throughout the structure similar to wave motion. This paper proposes a new set of closed-form equations to calculate member-end rotation or moment, directly, comprising both shear and bending flexibility. Furthermore, the authors program the algorithm of Timoshenko beam theory cooperated with the finite element. Several numerical examples, conducted on the procedures, show that the method is superior in not only the dominant algorithm but also the preciseness of results.

Impedance Control of Flexible Base Mobile Manipulator Using Singular Perturbation Method and Sliding Mode Control Law

  • In this paper, the general problem of impedance control for a robotic manipulator with a moving flexible base is addressed. Impedance control imposes a relation between force and displacement at the contact point with the environment. The concept of impedance control of flexible base mobile manipulator is rather new and is being considered for first time using singular perturbation and new sliding mode control methods by authors. Initially slow and fast dynamics of robot are decoupled using singular perturbation method. Slow dynamics represents the dynamics of the manipulator with rigid base. Fast dynamics is the equivalent effect of the flexibility in the base. Then, using sliding mode control method, an impedance control law is derived for the slow dynamics. The asymptotic stability of the overall system is guaranteed using a combined control law comprising the impedance control law and a feedback control law for the fast dynamics. As first time, base flexibility was analyzed accurately in this paper for flexible base moving manipulator (FBMM). General dynamic decoupling, whole system stability guarantee and new composed robust control method were proposed. This proposed Sliding Mode Impedance Control Method (SMIC) was simulated for two FBMM models. First model is a simple FBMM composed of a 2 DOFs planar manipulator and a single DOF moving base with flexibility in between. Second FBMM model is a complete advanced 10 DOF FBMM composed of a 4 DOF manipulator and a 6 DOF moving base with flexibility. This controller provides desired position/force control accurately with satisfactory damped vibrations especially at the point of contact. This is the first time that SMIC was addressed for FBMM.

유연도법 섬유요소모델에 의한 반복하중을 받는 철근콘크리트 교각의 연성능력 평가 (Evaluation of Ductility Capacity of Reinforced Concrete Bridge Columns Subject to Cyclic Loading Using Flexibility-Based Fiber Element Method)

  • 유연도법 섬유요소모델을 통하여 반복하중을 받는 철근콘크리트 교각의 비탄성 이력 거동을 추적하고 직접적인 방법에 의해 변위연성도 평가를 수행하였다. 철근 콘크리트 교각의 극한상태까지의 비탄성 거동을 합리적으로 추적하기 위해 인장강성거동, 기둥-기초면의 불연속 변위 등을 고려하여 철근과 콘크리트의 평균응력-평균변형률 관계, 접촉면요소 등을 실험과 잘 일치하는 기존의 해석 모델을 수정, 적용하였다. 또한 수치해석시 간편하게 적용할 수 있는 직접적인 방법에 의하여 교각의 연성능력을 평가하였으며, 항복변위 및 극한변위의 산출에 영향을 미치는 적분점의 위치, 콘크리트 압쇄 후 강루 철근의 low-cycle fatigue에 의한 파단 시점 등에 대하여 유연도법 섬유요소모델에 적용할 수 있는 값들을 제시하였다. 해석에 의한 변위연성도는 10%이내의 오차를 보이므로, 적용한 해석기법 및 모델에 의한 항복변위 및 극한변위의 평가는 타당하다고 할 수 있다.

동적, 정적, PNF 스트레칭이 요부 유연성에 미치는 효과 (The effect of Dynamic and Static PNF stretching on lower back flexibility)

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study is to find out which method is efficient to enhance the flexibility of lower back between PNF(Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation), static and dynamic stretching. Methods : Subjects were 30 young people between the ages 17 and 19. They were randomly divided into three groups; static group(n=10) performed a static stretching, dynamic group(n=10) performed a dynamic stretching, and PNF group(n=10) performed a PNF stretching. Intervention was provided 5 days per week for 4 weeks. For each case, Trunk flexion forward, trunk flexion backward, trunk left lateral bending, trunk right lateral bending, trunk flexion forward a measuring instrument and tapeline were performed to measured the flexibility of lower back at different times(before starting the exercise, after 4 weeks). Results : The results of the study reveal that the lower back flexibility was a statistically significant difference in all groups(p<.05). There was statistically significant difference between PNF group and static group, PNF group and dynamic group. Conclusion : The finding indicated that PNF may be preferred technique for improving flexibility, and that flexibility training results in an increased consistency of flexibility scores.

  • This paper deals with the evaluation methods for flexible automated assembly systems based on characteristics of automation and flexibility. In this study, the degrees of automation and flexibility are calculated quantitatively as the means of evaluating assembly systems. The degree of automation is grasped wheter the detailed assembly flexibility can be calculated indirectly14 by the estimation of cost and time which are caused to adapt the changed environment of the assembly system. As a case study, an assembly system is evaluated for showing the procedures of the developed method.

  • This paper was studied to design Process considered flexibility and reliability of suction and discharge valves. Flexibility and reliability of valves are main important factors in compressor valves design. And they are incompatible with efficiency of compressor. In this study, we have performed the optimal design of CO2 compressor valves to consider these factors. At first, we analyzed performance simulation of compressor to obtain optimal flexibility level of valves. From this simulation, we could get some important data at valve design like the optimal natural frequency and the height of retainer. After that we studied to reliability of valves corresponding to optimal flexibility level by finite element method. For each case bending stress and natural frequency were obtained by it. Also we investigated the fatigue stability to obtain optimal valve shape that ensured to reliability.

하중 방향에 따른 관상동맥용 스텐트의 유연성 해석 (Flexibile Analysis of Coronary Stents due to Loading Directions)

  • In clinical use, coronary stents keep coronary arteries open after expansion with a balloon catheter and prevent the expanded artery from collapsing. Coronary stents are positioned in artery by catheter with a balloon along a guide wire to the lesion site. Flexibility is one of important ability for delivery. In this paper, Palmaz-Schatz stent and Tenax complete stent were selected because these are the most representative of tubular stents. Finite element analyses for the stent system were performed using ABAQUS/Standard code. The present study estimated the flexibility of coronary stents due to loading directions. Moreover the present paper suggests a numerical method to test the flexibility of stents. In conclusion this paper shows how the finite element analysis can be effectively organized in the stent development.

  • The presence of a damage, such as a crack, in a structure increases the flexibility and damping in the structure. Most of methods to detect damage or damage location uses stiffness matrix of the structural system. The modification of stiffness matrix, however, has complicated procedures to identify structural. system in the basis of finite element model and has too many degree of freedom to calculate. Identification of changes of flexibility of structure can offer damage information immediately and simple procedure can employ real time continuous monitoring system. To identify changes of the flexibility, vibration mode shapes and natural frequencies are usually used. In this paper, a procedure for damage location in continuous girder bridges using vibration data is described. The effectiveness and sensitivity of the presented method to measurement errors in mode shapes and natural frequencies are investigated using analytical results from finite element models. It is shown that the errors in the first mode shape and first natural frequency demonstrate much larger influence than those in the higher mode shapes and modal frequencies.

  • Purpose: This study was done to evaluate the effects of Yoga exercise on improvements in physical flexibility, posture management behavior, and self-efficacy in adolescents. Method: In this study, the design was a quasi-experimental research design with a one group pretest-posttest design. Participants were 32 students from one high school in Busan Metropolitan City, Korea, who did not engage in regular aerobic exercise and were willing to participate in this study. Yoga exercise was conducted for 70 minutes twice a week for 15 weeks. The data were collected from March 16 to June 22, 2004. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, and paired t-test with SPSS Win 12.0. Results: Trunk flexibility, posture management behavior, and self-efficacy significantly increased after the yoga exercise. Conclusion: Yoga exercise is recommended as a useful nursing intervention that could help prevent spinal-curvature-related disorders among adolescents.

  • This paper presents the construction of consistent coefficient matrix elements for jointed structures using the reduction of flexibility and mass matrices. The reduced flexibility coefficient matrix hat little structural complexity than Guyan's stiffness matrix reduction since the only element of the original matrix, corresponding to the selected nodal degrees of freedom, contributes. The proposed method was applied to building equivalent coefficient matrices for a clamp jointed structure in finite element modal analysis of a cantilevered beam. The theoretical analysis results were compared with those experimental modal analysis, Comparison of both shows good agreement each other.
