  • This paper presents a new single-phase asymmetrical cascaded multilevel DC-link inverter. The proposed inverter comprises two stages. The main stage of the inverter consists of multiple similar cells, each of which is a half-bridge inverter consisting of two switches and a single DC source. All cells are connected in a cascaded manner with a fixed neutral point. The DC source values are not made equal to increase the performance of the inverter. The second circuit is a folded cascaded H-bridge circuit operating at a line frequency. One of the main advantages of this proposed topology is that it is a modular type and can thus be extended to high stages without changing the configuration of the main stage circuit. Two control schemes, namely, low switching with selective harmonic elimination and sinusoidal pulse width modulation, are employed to validate the proposed topology. The detailed approach of each control scheme and switching pulses are discussed in detail. A 150W prototype of the proposed system is implemented in the laboratory to verify the validity of the proposed topology.

  • This paper presents a new control method of single-phase active power filter (APF) for the compensation of harmonic current components in nonlinear loads. To facilitate the possibility of complex calculation for harmonic current detection of the single phase, a single-phase system that has two phases was constructed by including an imaginary second-phase giving time delay to the load current. The imaginary phase, which lagged the load current T/4 (Here T is the fundamental cycle) is used in the conventional method. But in this proposed method, the new signal as the second phase is delayed by the filter. Because this control method is applied to a single-phase system, an instantaneous calculation was developed by using the rotating reference frames synchronized to source-frequency rather than by applying instantaneous reactive power theory that uses the conventional fixed reference frames. The control scheme of single-phase APF for the current source with R-L loads is applied to a laboratory prototype to verify the proposed control method.

  • When the multiple video sources are transmitted together through the channel of fixed bandwidth, an efficient picture quality control is necessary. This paper presents a joint picture quality control method to satisfy the user requirement by priority among the video sources. The better picture quality is assigned to the source of higher priority compared to lower priority. We obtain the bitrate for each source to have a required distortion level among the sources by using an approximate distortion-bitrate model for simple implementation. It is shown by simulation that the proposed bandwidth allocation method can keep almost the user-required picture quality among the sources in comparison to an independent bandwidth allocation method.

  • This work presents a novel structure for junction-less tunneling field effect transistor (JL-TFET) with a floating gate over the source region. Introduction of floating gate instead of fixed metal gate removes the limitation of fabrication process suitability. The proposed device is based on a heavily n-type-doped Si-channel junction-less field effect transistor (JLFET). A floating gate over source region and a control-gate with optimized metal work-function over channel region is used to make device work like a tunnel field effect transistor (TFET). The proposed device has exhibited excellent ID-VGS characteristics, ION/IOFF ratio, a point subthreshold slope (SS), and average SS for optimized device parameters. Electron charge stored in floating gate, isolation oxide layer and body doping concentration are optimized. The proposed JL-TFET can be a promising candidate for switching performances.

  • We have studied PHEMTs optimization by means of fabrication of PHEMTs. All PHEMTs have been fixed with a gate length of 0.1 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, a gate head size of 0.75${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, and two gate fingers. We have measured the characteristics of PHEMTs with variation of source-drain spacing, pad size, and gate width. As a result, we have found the enhanced characteristics of $I_{dss}$, $S_{21}$, $h_{21}$, $f_{T}$, $f_{max}$, and $G_{ms}$ with increasing gate width. Also, $g_{m}$ has improved with decreasing source-drain spacing, and $S_{21}$ has improved with deceasing pad size.e.e.e.e.

  • This study deals with a flow and pressure ripple characteristics for a hydrostatic transmission(HST) consisting of a vari-able axial piston pump connected in an open loop to a fixed displacement axial piston motor. These flow ripples produced by pump and motor in HST interacts with the source impedances of the pump or motor and dynamic characteristics of the connected pipeline, and results in a pressure ripples, Pressure ripples. Pressure ripples in HSP is major source of vibration, which can lead to fatigue failure of components and cause noise. In this paper, the flow ripples generated by a swash plate type axial piston pump or motor in HST are measured by making use of hydraulic pipeline dynamics and the measured pressure data at two points along the pipeline. By using the self-checking functions, the validity of the method us investigated by comparison with the measured and estimated pressure ripples at the halfway section of the pipeline, and good agreement is achieved.

  • The objectives of this research is to find the factors which determined hospital profitability. The unit of analysis is hospital, and the data is collected from two sources. One source is derived from Ministry of Health and Social Affairs(4 years' data from 134 hospitals), and another source is derived from Sam-II Accounting Co.(1 year's data from 37 hospitals). Hospital profitability, which is dependent variable in our research, is measured with financial ration, such as ROI(reture on investment). The major findings are as follows; 1) The hospital profitability is determined with not hospital type itself but management-incentives associated with hospital type. 2) The maximum profitability is obtained in 775 bed-size. 3) The hospital location isn't a factor to determine profitability 4) The internal control and management, such as account receivables, inventory, fixed assert investment, is major factor to hospital profitability.

  • A minimally appropriate time delay of audio data processing is investigated for rendering virtual sound source direction in real-time head-tracking environment under headphone listening. Less than 3.7 degree of angular mismatch should be maintained in order to keep desired sound source directions in virtually fixed while listeners are rotating their head in a horizontal plane. The angular mismatch is proportional to speed of head rotation and data processing delay. For 20 degree/s head rotation, which is a relatively slow head-movement case, less than total of 63ms data processing delay should be considered.

  • The paper derives formulas for the mean-squared error distortion and resulting signal-to-noise (SNR) ratio of a fixed-rate scalar quantizer designed optimally in the minimum mean-squared error sense for a Gaussian density with the standard deviation ${\sigma}_q$ when it is mismatched to a Laplacian density with the standard deviation ${\sigma}_q$. The SNR formulas, based on the key parameter and Bennett's integral, are found accurate for a wide range of $p\({\equiv}\frac{\sigma_p}{\sigma_q}\){\geqq}0.25$. Also an upper bound to the SNR is derived, which becomes tighter with increasing rate R and indicates that the SNR behaves asymptotically as $\frac{20\sqrt{3{\ln}2}}{{\rho}{\ln}10}\;{\sqrt{R}}$ dB.

  • Generally the excessive caused by isolated sources in localized to members closely located to the vibration sources. In this case it may not be economical to model the whole structure to obtain the responses of a specific member. In this study, a substructuring technique has been used for local vibration of a framed structure. The boundary conditions of members selected are determined by condensing the degrees of freedom of the remaining members. Fixed and hinged boundary condition are also assumed for comparison. According to the results, the substructuring technique is quite efficient in predicting the responses of a structure on which the vibration source in located, but is not very reliable for the members located for away from the source.
