The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of the stress distribution and displacement in mandible according to treatment modalities of mandibular angle fractures, using a three dimensional finite element analysis. A mechanical model of an edentulous mandible was generated from 3D scan. A 100-N axial load and four masticatory muscular supporting system were applied to this model. According to the number, location and materials of titanium and biodegradable polymer plates, the experimental groups were divided into five types. Type I had a single titanium plate in the superior border of mandibular angle, type II had two titanium plates in the superior tension border and in the inferior compression border of mandibular angle, type III had a single titanium plate in the ventral area of mandibular angle, type IV had a single biodegradable polymer plate in the superior border of mandibular angle, type V had a single biodegradable polymer plate in the ventral area of mandibular angle. The results obtained from this study were follows: 1. Stress was concentrated on the condylar neck of the fractured side except Type III. 2. The values of von-Mises stress of the screws were the highest in the just-posterior screw of the fracture line, and in the just-anterior screw of Type III. 3. The displacement of mandible in Type III was 0.04 mm, and in Type I, II, IV, and V were 0.10 mm. 4. The plates were the most stable in the ventral area of mandibular angle (Type III, V). In conclusion, the ventral area of mandibular angle is the most stable location in the fixation of mandibular angle fractures, and the just- posterior and/or the just-anterior screws of the fracture line must be longer than the other, and surgeons have to fix accurately these screws, and the biodegradable polymer plate also was suitable for the treatment of mandible angle fracture.

Most of energy are obtained from oil, coal, and natural gas, most likely, fossil fuel which is limited throughout the world. Recently, high crude oil price, climate change, oil depletion, etc. are main reason to get attention to non-fossil energy including renewable energy in the world. In this study, we studied analysis and design of structure system composed of pultruded fiber reinforced polymer composite (PFRP) which has many advantages such as high specific strength and stiffness, high corrosion resistance and chemical resistance. For the design and construction of floating-type structure, PFRP structural members may be the first choice. Design of tracking-type floating PV generation structure was performed by using the results of the finite element analysis. The structure is fabricated and installed on the water surface. Before the installation of the structure, safety related problems associated with installation and operation are investigated using the finite element simulation and it was found that the structure is safe enough to resist externally applied loads.
In this paper, evaluation method of structural integrity for cone-type composite lattice structures with hexagonal cell was conducted. A finite element analysis was used to evaluate the structural integrity of cone-type composite lattice structure. The finite element model for evaluation of structural integrity was generated using solid element. In order to consider the difference in mechanical properties between intersection and non-intersection part, the mechanical properties were applied considering the fiber volume fraction of each part. Compression test of cone-type composite lattice structure were conducted for verification of evaluation method of structural integrity. The analysis result showed 2% errors in displacement and good agreement with test result.

This paper describes a multi-physics analysis of a high resolution winding type resolver and rotary transformer using FEM (Finite Element Method). The rotary transformer boosts the input voltage to a high voltage which can be input into the rotor windings of the resolver. Through multi-physics models of the transformer and resolver, the characteristics of the output signals for the resolver system with high resolution can be derived. Moreover, the circuit model of the interface part between the transformer and resolver should be considered, because of the calculation of the input current to the resolver. The winding type resolver is composed of 32x and 1x stator windings for high resolution. Then, the output signals of the stator windings, which make sinusoidal SIN and COS waves with a $90^{\circ}$ phase difference, are verified.

The segment of the piston type wave board has been expressed as a submerged vertical line segment in the two dimensional wave flume. Either end of vertical line segment representing wave board could be located in fluid domain from free surface to the bottom of the flume. Naturally the segment could be extended from the bottom to the free surface of the flume. It is assumed that the piston motion of the wave board could be defined by the sinusoidal oscillation in horizontal direction. Simplified analytic solution of the submerged segment of wave board has been derived through the first order perturbation method in water of finite depth. The analytic solution has been utilized in expressing the wave generated by the piston type wave board installed on the upper or lower half of the flume. The wave form derived by the analytic solution have been compared with the wave profile obtained through the CFD calculation for the either of the above cases. It is appeared that the wave length and the wave height are coincided each other between analytic solution and CFD calculation. However the wave form obtained by CFD calculations are more closer to real wave form than those from analytic calculation. It is appeared that the linear solutions could be not only superposed by segment but also integrated by finite elements without limitation. Finally it is proven that the wave generated by the oscillation of flap type wave board could be derived by integrating the wave generated by the sinusoidal motion of the finite segment of the piston type wave board.

Excessive concentration of stress which is occurred in occlusion around the implant in case of the implant supported fixed partial denture has been known to be the main cause of the crestal bone destruction. Therefore, it is essential to evaluate the stress analysis on supporting tissue to get higher success rates of implant. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of stress distribution and deformation in 3 different types of three-unit fixed partial denture sup-ported by two implants, using a three dimensional finite element analysis in a three dimensional model of a whole mandible. A mechanical model of an edentulous mandible was generated from 3D scan, assuming two implants were placed in the left premolars area. According to the position of pontic, the experiments groups were divided into three types. Type I had a pontic in the middle position between two implants, type II in the anterior posi-tion, and type III in the posterior position. A 100-N axial load was applied to sites such as the central fossa of anterior and posterior implant abutment, central fossa of pontic, the connector of pontic or the connector between two implants, the mandibular boundary conditions were modeled considering the real geometry of its four-masticatory muscular supporting system. The results obtained from this study were as follows; 1. The mandible deformed in a way that the condyles converged medially in all types under muscular actions. In comparison with types, the deformations in the type II and type III were greater by 2-2.5 times than in the type I regardless of the loading location. 2. The values of von Mises stresses in cortical and cancellous bone were relatively stable in all types, but slightly increased as the loading position was changed more posteriorly. 3. In comparison with type I, the values of von Mises stress in the implant increased by 73% in Type II and by 77% in Type III when the load was applied anterior and posterior respectively, but when the load was applied to the middle, the values were similar in all types. 4. When the load was applied to the centric fossa of pontic, the values of von Mises stress were nearly $30{\sim}35%$ higher in the type III than type I or II in the cortical and cancellous bone. Also, in the implant, the values of von Mises stress of the type II or III were $160{\sim}170%$ higher than in the type I. 5. When the load was applied to the centric fossa of implant abutment, the values of von Mises stress in the cortical and cancellous bone were relatively $20{\sim}25%$ higher in the type III than in the other types, but in the implant they were 40-45% higher in the type I or II than in the type III. According to the results of this study, musculature modeling is important to the finite element analysis for stress distribution and deformation as the muscular action causes stress concentration. And the type I model is the most stable from a view of biomechanics. Type II is also a clinically accept-able design when the implant is stiff sufficiently and mandibular deformation is considered. Considering the high values of von Mises stress in the cortical bone, type III is not thought as an useful design.
This paper presents the displacement behavior safety of hollow shafts with an equivalent volume for various cross sectional area using a finite element method. The FEM results indicate that the hollow shafts with X-type or Y-type columns between outer tube, middle tube and inner tube may reduce a maximum displacement at the middle length of hollow shafts. Especially, the load-bearing column of X-type or Y-type hollow shaft is directly connected between outer tube and inner tube without a shift for reducing the vertical displacement. And increased thickness of a load-bearing column is recommended for reducing the vertical displacement and increasing the displacement behavior safety for an equivalent volume of a hollow shaft.

Mode shapes and natural frequencies of the bell type shell are analyzed numerically by the finite element method. The impulse hammer method and the Fast Fourier Transform analyzer are used for the experimental test. All types of mode shapes are expressed by the computer graphics. Numerical solutions are good agreement with the experimental results. The sustaining sound of the typical bell-type shell depend upon the first flexural mode (0-2 mode) and the second flexural mode (0-3 mode), and their mode shapes are independent upon thickness Dangjwas, holes, and added mass effects. Asymmetric effects by Dangjwas, holes and added mass give rise to beat frequencies, and the added mass is found to be most effective.

Existence of physical moving parts (ex. check valve) produces several problems (mechanical abrasion, deterioration of reliability, limited temperature performances etc.) in driving pumps. To overcome such problems, we proposed a valveless piezoelectric micro-pump which has new type volume transferring mechanism. The proposed micro-pump has a double faced disk type vibrator that can generate peristaltic motion formed by traveling wave in each surface of a disk. This type of micro-pump is able to apply to a fluid supply system that provides two different kinds of fluid simultaneously. In this paper, we propose a simple and novel design of piezoelectric micro-pump that is peristaltically by piezoelectric actuators and allows the removal of the need for valves of other physically moving parts. The finite elements analysis on the proposed pump model was carried out to verify its operation principle using the commercial analysis software.
