  • Biometrics is a study of identifying individual by using the features of human body. It has been studied for an alternative or complementary method for the classical method based on password, ID card, etc. In comparison with the fingerprint, iris, ear, palmprint, finger-knuckle print has been recently studied. This paper proposes an effective method for recognizing finger-knuckle print based on the feature of Gradient orientation. The main features of finger-knuckle print are the size and direction of winkles. In order to extract these features stably, we make a feature vector consisted of Gradient orientations after the preprocessing of enhancing non-uniform brightness and low contrast. Total 790 images acquired from 158 persons have been used at the experiment for evaluating the performance of the proposed method. The experimental results show the recognition rate of 99.69% and the relatively high decidability index of 1.882. These results demonstrate that the proposed method is effective in recognizing finger-knuckle print.

  • A finger-gesture game controller using the single camera is implemented in this paper, which is based on the recognition of the number of fingers and the index finger moving direction. Proposed method uses the CAMShift algorithm to trace the end-point of index finger effectively. The number of finger is recognized by using a double circle tracing method. Then, HSI color mode transformation is performed for the CAMShift algorithm, and YCbCr color model is used in the double circle tracing method. Also, all processing tasks are implemented by using the Intel OpenCV library and C++ language. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed method, we developed a shooting game simulator and validated the proposed method. The proposed method showed the average recognition ratio of more than 90% for each of the game command-mode.

  • The palm print recognition is the most reliable authentication method in the biometrics. In this paper, using the efficient segmentation of the palm print region we propose the method of enabling the palm print recognition as the same method applicable to the finger print recognition. To achieve this, we propose the image processing procedures of the palm print segmentation and the feature extraction. We compare the matching result after extracting the features for the finger print and the palm print.

  • Fingerprint recognition and iris recognition, which are one of the biometric methods, are easily influenced by external factors such as sunlight. Recently, finger vein recognition is used as a method utilizing internal features. However, for accurate finger vein recognition, it is important to clearly separate vein and background regions. However, it is difficult to separate the vein region and background region due to the abnormalized illumination, and a method of separating the vein region and the background region after normalized the illumination of the input image has been proposed. In this paper, we proposed a method to enhance the quality improvement and improve the processing time compared to the existing finger vein recognition system binarization and labeling method of the image including the image stretching process based on the existing illumination normalization method.

  • In this paper, an algorithm that detects the user's finger direction using the YOLO (You Only Look Once) library was proposed. The processing stage of the proposed finger direction detection algorithm consists of a learning data management stage, a data learning stage, and a finger direction detection stage. As a result of the experiment, it was found that the distance between the camera and the finger had a very large influence on the accuracy of detecting the direction of the finger. We plan to apply this function to Turtlebot3 after improving the accuracy and reliability of the proposed algorithm in the future.

  • In this paper, a new boundary tracking algorithm for extracting finger area, which may be utilized by a finger crease pattern recognition algorithm, is proposed. Due to noise and irregular illumination, conventional algorithms for boundary tracking such as skeleton-based tracking methods were not suitable for typical boundary image of hand. So we propose a new finger boundary tracking algorithm utilizing a boundary-point-detection mask. We have observed that the proposed method provides stable and optimised boundary tracking.

  • This paper presents a finger-shaped multisensor system which can measure the tyep and position of a target surface by contactl. The multi-sensor system consists of a sphere-shpaed optical tactile sensor located at the finger tip and a force/torque sensor located at the joint of a finger. The optial tactile sensor determines the type and position of the target surface using the shape and position of the CCD image of the touching area generated by a contact between the sensor and the taget surface. The force/torque sensor also determines the position and surface normal vector by applying the distributionof forces and torques t the contact point to the equations of finger shape. The measurements on the position and surface normal vector at a contact point obtined by two individual sensors are fused using a statistical method. The integrated sensor system has 0.8mm error in position measurement and 1.31$^{\circ}$ error in normal vector measurement. The developed sensor system has many applications, such as autonomous compliance control, automatic grasping and recognition, etc.

  • This study focused on to design and toanalysis of a myoelectronic hand. We considered a low frequency factor in human life and to quantify low frequency which a human body responded to using a 1-axis ant a 3-axis accelerometer. The dynamic myoelectronic hand are important for tasks such a continuous prosthetic control and a EMG signal recognition, which have not been successfully mastered by the most neural approached To control myoelectronic hand, classifying myoelectronic patterns are also important. Experimental results of FEM are 110㎫ on Thumb, 200㎫ on Index finger, 220㎫ on Middle finger 260㎫ on Ring finger and 270㎫ on Little finger. Experimental results of accelerometer are 1.4-0.4(m/s2) ,(5-20(〔Hz〕) in Feeding activity and 0.4-0(m/s2) (0-10〔Hz〕) in Lifting activity. Considering these facts, we suggest a new type myoelectronic hand.

  • People who have hearing difficulties suffer from satisfactory mutual interaction with normal people because there are little chances of communicating each other. It is caused by rare communication of people who have hearing difficulties with normal people because majority of normal people can not understand sing language that is represented by gestures and is used by people who have hearing difficulties as a principal way of communication. In this paper, we propose a recognition method of finger language using FCM algorithm in order to be possible of communication of people who have hearing difficulties with normal people. In the proposed method, skin regions are extracted from images acquired by a camera using YCbCr and HSI color spaces and then locations of two hands are traced by applying 4-directional edge tracking algorithm on the extracted skin lesions. Final hand regions are extracted from the traced hand regions by noise removal using morphological information. The extracted final hand regions are classified and recognized by FCM algorithm. In the experiment using images of finger language acquired by a camera, we verified that the proposed method have the effect of extracting two hand regions and recognizing finger language.

  • This paper proposes a human mouse system that replaces mouse input by human hand movement. As the resolution of monitors increases, it is not quite possible, due to the resolution difference between web cameras and monitors, to place the cursor in the entire range of a monitor by simply moving the pointer which recognizes the position of the hand from the web camera. In this regard, we propose an effective method of placing the position of the mouse, without repeating the returning hand movements, in the corners of the monitor in which the user wants it to be. We also proposes the recognition method of finger movements in terms of using thumb and index finger. The measurement that we conducted shows the successful recognition rate of 97% that corroborates the effectiveness of our method.
