The Impact of CSR Strategy of Affiliated Firm on Performance in the Emerging Markets: Resource-Based and Institutional Approaches

  • This study suggests an integrated theoretical framework for the relationship between political risk and multinational corporation (MNC) subsidiary's performance in the emerging market. The political risk would have a negative impact on MNC subsidiary's performance in the emerging countries that are developing in Asia, the Commonwealth of Independent States, Africa, and South America. The major reason is that political risks could generate a loss of benefit or a loss of control for MNC's subsidiary. In this study, I suggest that corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy would be a solution to overcome various political risks. Specifically, the affiliated firms with diversified industries or greater financial resources could mitigate the negative impact of political risk than unaffiliated firms. Because they can use their tangible or nontangible asset such as information, technology, and construction in order to gain legitimacy and trust from local government, local community, and local firms in the emerging market. Finally, I claimed the costs of the affiliated firms would exceed the benefits at the initial stages, while the benefits of affiliated firms would exceed the costs over time when political risks become higher. The reason is that the trust gained from local stakeholders accumulates over time and the impact of CSR strategy would become an important solution to overcome the risks in and unstable context.

EXPANDING THE GLOBAL CONSTRUCTION OPPORTUNITIES THROUGH BUSINESS CONVERGENCE

  • Construction firms have long sought success in the global construction market through diversifying revenue sources and project portfolios. The volume of international contracts has contributed to firms' sustained growth by mitigating the impact of the domestic market's cyclical nature. In spite of the importance of international construction, the uncertainty and dynamic changes surrounding global construction pose serious threats to global contactors. Over the last decade, the international construction industry has changed drastically in many ways, particularly including financial resource diversity, competition rules for the selection of contractors, and the terms of delivery systems requiring more competent total service providers. This paper investigates the important changes for global contractors through various documentation analysis as well as in-depth interviews with industry experts. This paper then analyzes the common strategies and lessons obtained from the cases of leading global contractors that have sustained their growth in the competitive global construction during the last decade. In addition, the authors further analyzed the comparisons between those firms and Korean contractors to discern any difference in sustaining their growth in the competitive market. It was found that those leading firms were quite proactive and responsive to changing markets by diversifying their market revenues to stabilize their revenue structure and enhancing their competency through a wide range of 'business convergence'. In addition, they significantly increased their upstream/downstream functional capabilities; hence becoming more competent service providers, able to grow in these rapidly changing market conditions. Finally, this paper benchmarks the critical strategies that support growth, which in turn can provide a strategic guideline for expansion into the global construction market.

관련 기업 근무경험이 '질 좋은 청년창업'에 미치는 영향 : K벤처스 투자기업 사례를 중심으로 (The Impact of Work Experience of Related Domain on the 'Good Quality Startup' : K-Ventures Case Study)

  • 본 연구는 창업가의 관련 기업 근무경험이 기업의 성장 가능성과 생존율을 높이는 '질 좋은 창업'에 미치는 영향을 확인하는 탐색적 사례 연구이다. 자원기반이론 관점에서 관련기업 경험을 통한 인적자본의 축적과 창업기회의 획득, 핵심경영자원의 확보를 '질 좋은 창업'의 요소로 보았으며, 벤처캐피탈인 'K벤처스'가 투자한 16개 모바일 게임/서비스 기업의 창업가를 대상으로 연구를 진행하였다. 연구 결과 16개 기업 27명의 기업가 모두가 창업 이전 관련 기업 근무경험을 보유하고 있었다. 이들은 관련기업 근무경험을 통해 기술능력, 관리능력, 사업영역의 지식, 창업동기 등 창업가의 인적자본을 축적하였으며, 이를 바탕으로 정보탐색, 기회인식, 기회추구 및 활용으로 창업을 실행하였다. 이러한 'K벤처스'의 투자 기준과 사례는 창업가의 직장경험과 인적자본이 벤처캐피탈의 투자결정에 긍정적인 영향을 미친다는 이전의 결과를 지지한다. 또한 심층연구를 수행 한 2개 기업의 사례는 관련기업 근무경험을 통해 축적한 창업가의 인적자본이 창업기회 획득과 벤처캐피탈 투자유치를 통한 핵심경영자원 확보를 촉진시켜 '질 좋은 창업'에 긍정적인 영향을 미침을 확인하였다. 본 연구는 인터넷/모바일 기업을 대상으로 진행된 탐색적 사례연구이며, 향후 본 내용의 일반화를 위한 실증연구가 추가되어야 할 것이다.

균형성과표(BSC)개념을 적응한 학교급식 운영성과 측정지표 개발 (Development of Performance Indicators Based on Balanced Score Card for School Food Service Facilities)

  • This study raised the necessity of developing performance indicators for measuring the management efficiency and effectiveness of school food service, and as a means of helping its implementation, a balanced score card (BSC) approach developed by Norton and Kaplan was adopted. This study established BSC in seven phases through literature: Phase 1 Defining a school food service and the scope of working activities, Phase 2 Establishing the vision of a school food service, Phase 3 Setting strategic goals, Phase 4 Identifying critical success factors (CSFs), Phase 5 Developing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), Phase 6 Extracting cause and effect relationship, and Phase 7 Completing a preliminary BSC. The preliminary BSC was fumed into a survey, which was administered to food service related people working at the Office of Education and School Food Service including 16 offices,209 dietitians, 48 school administrators both from self-operated and contract-managed, and 9 experts in areas related to school food service. They were asked questions about strategies from 4 different perspectives,12 CSFs, 39 KPls, and the cause and effect relationships among them. As a result, among the CSFs based on 4 different perspectives, all factors other than ' zero sum on profit/loss ' from the financial perspective turned out to be valid. In terms of KPIs, manufacturing cost percentages, casualty loss count/reduction rates, school foodervice participation rates, and sales goal achievement rates were found to be valid from the financial perspective, while student satisfaction index, faculty satisfaction index, leftover ratio, nutrition educational performance count, index of evaluating nutrition education, customer claim count/reduction rate, handling customer claim count/reduction rate, and parent satisfaction index were found to be valid from the customers' perspective. Besides, nutritional requirement sufficient ratio, nutritional management score, food poisoning outbreak count, employee safety accident count, sanitary inspection assessment index, meals per labor hour (productivity index), computerization ratio, operational management index, and purchase management assessment index were also found to be valid from the perspective of internal business processes. From the perspective of innovation and learning, employee turnover ratio/rate of absenteeism, annual education and training count, employee satisfaction index, human resource management assessment index, annual menu-related customer feedback, food service information index for employees and parents/schools were also found to be valid. The significance of this study is to present indices for measuring overall performance of school lunch food service operations without putting any limitation on types of school food service management, and to help correctly assess the contribution of the current types of school food service management to schools and students. 서해연안 접경지역 현황 및 남북한 협력관리 방안 (Cooperative Management Framework for the Transboundary Coastal Area in the Western Part of Korean Peninsula)

  • As a result of very limited access due to the military confrontation between South and North Koreas for the last five decades, ecosystems in the transboundary coastal area in the western part of Korean Peninsula have been protected from intensive developments in both Koreas. In the core of the recent two military collisions lies the fishery resources represented as blue crabs as well as the politico-military aspect. Increasing development pressures from both sides as reflected in the South Korea supporting the construction of an industrial complex in Kaesung, North Korea, is the main factor which threatens the sustainable resource base in this region. This research is aimed to develop a cooperative management system for the well-preserved transboundary coastal area between South Korea and North Korea. The Pressure-State-Response (PSR) framework of OECD was used to assess environmental conditions, socioeconomic pressures on the environment of the region, and policy responses of both Koreas to those pressures. Protection of ecosystems, peace settlement, and prosperity of the region and the entire peninsula were proposed as the management goals of the cooperative management system. The designation of the area as a Co-managed Marine Protected Area System (COMPAS) through close cooperation among South Korea, North Korea, and international entities was suggested as a way to achieve those goals. Revision of legal and institutional mechanisms, strengthening knowledge base for optimal COMPAS management, integration of the marine protected area and DMZ (demilitarized zone) ecosystem, enhancing stakeholder participation, building international partnership, and securing financial resources were presented as six management strategies.

취업 1인가구의 일-생활 균형: 20-30대 미혼을 중심으로 (Work and Life Balance of Working Single-person Households : Focused on Unmarried 20-30 Generation)

  • 이 연구는 1인가구가 계속 증가하는 현상과 함께 1인가구를 주제로 한 연구가 축적되어야 한다는 필요성 그리고 사회적으로 워라밸(일-생활 균형)에 대한 관심에 주목하여 취업 1인가구의 일-생활 균형 실태를 파악하고자 수행되었다. 1인가구 중에서 미혼 20-30대 11명을 대상으로 심층면접을 통해 1인가구로서의 일상생활, 일-생활의 실태 그리고 일-생활 균형과 관련된 사례 분석을 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 1인가구로 살게 될 때의 자발성, 1인가구 삶에 대한 준비와 계획 등은 1인가구 삶에 대한 만족도에 영향을 미치는 중요한 요인으로 나타났다. 자기계발이나 여가활동에 있어서 돈과 시간이라는 자원의 영향이 크다는 점도 확인할 수 있다. 가족과의 소통과 교류에서, 직접적인 대면은 충분치 않지만 메신저 사용을 많이 하고 있으며, 떨어져 사는 가족 특히 부모님과의 관계에서 경제적, 정서적, 가사노동의 상호 지원이 이루어지고 있음을 알 수 있다. 또한 참여자들은 직장생활을 경험하면서 일-생활 균형의 중요성을 더욱 인식하게 되었고, 일과 대비되는 생활의 영역에서 자기계발, 여가활동의 의미가 부각되고 있다. 또한 일-생활 균형의 장애요인으로 업무부담 외에 돈과 시간이라는 자원의 제약을 발견할 수 있다. 일-생활 균형을 위해서 경제적 지원 그리고 유연근무제와 같은 제도에 대한 요구가 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 통해 1인가구로서의 삶을 준비하고 계획하는 데 도움을 주는 가정경영 및 가족자원관리 교육의 필요성을 확인할 수 있다. 나아가 다양한 집단의 일-생활 균형을 위해 맞춤형의 사업과 제도가 활성화될 필요가 있을 것이다.

대학도서관 상호대차 장서 프로파일 분석 연구 (An Analysis on Collection Profiles of Western Monographs with ILL Data for Academic Libraries)

  • 대학의 재정 악화는 대학도서관 예산 삭감으로 이어지고, 특히 자료구입비 예산에 큰 영향을 끼쳤다. 이에 대한 해결책으로 대학도서관 자원공유에 관한 논의가 이루어지고 있으며, 상호대차 데이터를 분석하는 연구들이 진행되었다. 본 연구는 이러한 연구 흐름과 같이 국내 4년제 대학도서관 상호대차 장서 프로파일을 규명하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 2011년부터 2017년까지 KERIS 종합목록의 서지와 상호대차 데이터를 활용하여 상호대차 현황을 분석하였다. 그 결과로 첫째, 2011년에는 대규모 대학도서관을 중심으로 서양서 상호대차의 제공이 이루어졌으나, 2014년 이후 점차적으로 고유장서의 비율이 증가하면서 상호대차 네트워크 내 주요 권역의 범위가 확대되고, 권역 내 영향력이 증가하는 기관이 다수 출현하였다. 둘째, 2012년에는 서양서 소장 종수가 많고, 공통장서의 비율이 높을수록 상호대차 네트워크 내 영향력이 크게 나타났으나, 2016년에는 이러한 경향과 더불어 고유장서의 비중이 높을수록 제공 측면에서 영향력이 증가하였다. 셋째, 서양서 소장과 상호대차 지수에 의한 계층적 군집 분석에 따른 6개 군집의 대학도서관이 규명되었다. 이러한 연구결과는 향후 대학도서관 자원공유를 위한 정책 수립에 있어서 활용할 수 있으리라 기대한다.

Investigation of Key Factors to measure on-site Performance of a Construction firm

  • The performance of projects has always been an area of interest in the construction industry. Roles of all construction supply chain partners are necessary; however the role of a contractor firm in the construction project is pivotal. So, this research intended to explore a Construction Firm's performance criteria which could measure the level of performance of that firm in an ongoing project. Data was collected from construction professionals working in three principal project participant organizations, namely Owner, Consultant and Contractor. A total of 113 nos. of performance measuring items were sorted from literature review and used to collect data. Statistical tools processed by SPSS program was employed to analyze the data. Out of total 113 items, only 65 nos. of variables were found to be acceptable to every population group of this study. Factor analysis revealed 12 key performance predicting factors (KPPF) with 53 predictive indicators. 12 KPPFS with index weight are: work progress and smoothening (9.3%), change order management and work accuracy (9.1%), business relationship building (8.1%), adequacy of construction work procedure (8.6%), quality performance (8.0%), health and site safety adequacy (8.8%), Innovative contractor (8.0%), adequacy of construction site information (6.8%), compliance with contract plan/specification requirements (8.9%), creditworthiness and financial capability (8.3%), intra-agency relationship and responsiveness (7.0%) and resource management (9.2%). These results could be useful to project management body to evaluate performance of its contractor firm on site as well as the contractor itself to assess own performance and its subcontractors on-site.

영양사 직무기술서 작성 연구 (Analysis and Framing of Dietitian's of Description)

  • This study was conducted as a part of the project developing the standards of national board test for the dietitian's licence. The purpose of this study was to define the job description of dietitians, and to describe the task elements based on the detailed analysis of the dietitians' work. This study team established the research team which was composed of food and nutrition experts, 7 of registered dietitians and 3 of university professors. Draft job description form was made to fully explain the dietitians' task elements, process and sequence by the research team. Final job description form was confirmed after the validity of 576 task elements was reevaluated upon 4 point scale test based on the frequency, importance, and difficulty by 21 field registered dietitian by the study team. It was also confirmed by the university. This form was formated by following DACUM method which analyzed the job description containing duty, task and task elements. It was organized to include every dietitians' work and to describe the every detailed process of work. Duty was defined as the specific and independent work as a dietitian, and was composed of 17 parts, i.e 10 parts in food supply management area and 6 parts in nutritional care service area and self promotion area. Duties were also divided into 99 tasks containing the 576 detailed task elements to describe definite action, steps and decisions. Seventeen parts are following; menu planning, storage and inventory control, food production, meal service, waste management, sanitation, equipment and facility management, human resource management, financial management, nutrition assessment of life cycle, nutritional assessment of several disease, nutritional assessment in specific condition, medical nutrition therapy, nutritional education, public health nutrition and self promotion. If these protocols are properly performed and presented, they can provide the likelihood that dietetics professionals work as a primary contributors in promoting health care and preventing disease nationally.

가정과교육과정에서의 핵심개념: 관리 및 생애설계 (Core Concepts of Home Economics: Management and Planning of Life-cycle)

  • 본 연구에서는 교육부 고시 교육부 고시 '2015 개정 실과(기술 가정) 교육과정' 내용체계 중 "자원관리와 자립" 영역의 핵심개념인 "관리"와 "생애설계"에 대한 이론적 기초를 살펴보았다. 먼저 "관리"영역과 관련해서는 전통적인 가정관리의 이론적 토대인 체계이론에 대한 내용을 살펴보았으며 이러한 체계이론이 2015년 개정교육과정 내에서는 어떻게 반영되고 있는지를 진단한 결과 현 교육과정의 중학교 내용요소들은 중학생들의 실생활에서 직면하고 있는 생활관련 문제들을 통합적으로 포괄하고 있지 않으며 선별된 내용 요소들 또한 여러 가지 문제 상황 중에서 어느 정도 우선순위를 가지고 있는지 확신하기 어려운 부분이 있다. 다음으로 생애설계의 경우 진로지도에 부합하여 생애설계의 중요성을 강조하고 있기 때문에 발달과업을 비롯하여 가치관, 직업, 건강 등 매우 포괄적인 영역을 망라하여 생애설계의 대한 내용을 언급하고 있지만 2015 개정 교육과정에서는 국제적인 트렌드인 재무설계에 대한 중요성을 간과하고 있다는 사실은 다소 아쉬운 부분이다.
