In network human-robot interaction, human can access services of a robot system through the network The communication is done by interacting with the distributed sensors via voice, gestures or by using user network access device such as computer, PDA. The service organization and exploration is very important for this distributed system. In this paper we propose a new agent-based framework to integrate partners of this distributed system together and help users to explore the service effectively without complicated configuration. Our system consists of several robots. users and distributed sensors. These partners are connected in a decentralized but centralized control system using agent-based technology. Several experiments are conducted successfully using our framework The experiments show that this framework is good in term of increasing the availability of the system, reducing the time users and robots needs to connect to the network at the same time. The framework also provides some coordination methods for the human robot interaction system.
Exploration involving mapping and localization in an unknown environment is an important task in mobile robots. For this, robot must be able to build a reliable map of surroundings and to estimate the position of it. In this paper, we developed technique for gird-based localization of a mobile robot with ultrasonic sensors using EKF(Extended Kalman Filter). We also describe the information about landmarks detected in the environment. Finally, the robot experiments show the efficiency of our approach in the real environment.

It is known that many insects and animals can return to their nest after exploration, with their own specific homing mechanisms. Their homing navigation methods have been applied to the robotic navigation. In this paper, we test the sector-based image matching method motivated by the honeybee's landmark navigation behaviour. Here, our robotic approach uses the reference compass to identify the current head direction and the relative angular position of landmarks for the navigation. The robot shows desirable homing behaviors if the robot is surrounded by landmarks. The result of robot experiment is in good agreement with that of simulation.

This study aims to enhance the engineering education for non-majors by incorporating the concept of Global Citizenship Education and addressing the need for education that responds to climate and ecological changes. The study uses robot programming as a tool to foster the development of global citizens. Non-majors often struggle with producing more than just motionless forms or solid productions, due to a lack of understanding of mechanisms and coding. The study proposes the use of the Convergence D-SteamRobot (DSR) to address this issue by blending humanities and engineering. This is achieved by presenting problems through books to increase empathy, integrating simple machine mechanisms, and creating prototypes to solve self-defined problems. Through this process, learners determine the SDGs topic they want to solve and learn about the simple mechanical mechanism involved in producing the prototype. The educational model provides a constructivist learning environment that emphasizes empathy and exploration, encourages peer-learning, and improves divergent thinking and problem-solving skills.

Recently taping robot with smart recognition function have been studied in the coil manufacturing field. Due to the difficulty of 3D surface processing from the complicated working environment, it is not easy to accomplish smart tape attachment motion with non-contact sensor. To solve these problems the applicable surface recognition algorithm and a flexible sensing device has been recommended. In this research, the fusion method between 1D displacement and 3D laser scanner is applied for robust tape attachment about cold rolled coil. With these sensors we develop a two-step exploration and the smart algorithm for the awareness of non-aligned coil's information. In the proposed robot system for tape attachment, the problem is reduced to coil's radius searching with laser displacement sensor at first, and then position and orientation detection with 3D laser scanner. To get the movement at the robot's base frame, the hand-eye compensation between robot's end effector and sensing device should be also carried out respectively. In this paper, we examine the auto-coordinate transformation method in the calibration step for the real environment usage. From the experimental results, it was shown that the taping motion of robot had a robust under the non-aligned cold rolled coil.

Presently, the exploration of an unknown environment is an important task for thee new generation of mobile service robots and mobile robots are navigated by means of a number of methods, using navigating systems such as the sonar-sensing system or the visual-sensing system. To fully utilize the strengths of both the sonar and visual sensing systems. This paper presents a technique for localization of a mobile robot using fusion data of multi-ultrasonic sensors and vision system. The mobile robot is designed for operating in a well-structured environment that can be represented by planes, edges, comers and cylinders in the view of structural features. In the case of ultrasonic sensors, these features have the range information in the form of the arc of a circle that is generally named as RCD(Region of Constant Depth). Localization is the continual provision of a knowledge of position which is deduced from it's a priori position estimation. The environment of a robot is modeled into a two dimensional grid map. we defines a vision-based environment recognition, phisically-based sonar sensor model and employs an extended Kalman filter to estimate position of the robot. The performance and simplicity of the approach is demonstrated with the results produced by sets of experiments using a mobile robot.

The Ministry of Education issues STEAM education as a part of convergence. Most important is "How to achieve goals of STEAM education". The goal of this paper searches possibilities that robot is a good tool for STEAM education. The main topic is photosynthesis unit as circumstantiation and "Deep sea exploration robot", is creative activity, in elementary science subject. Students complete 13 basic course about robot, then accomplish subject-oriented 10 robot application course about above topic. Basic course contains math and science elements that students learn in regular curriculum. Application course is organized following steps, photosynthesis with oxygen sensors, brainstorming, idea derivation, robot design, robot construction, demo and presentation and so on. These courses have elements of STEAM. Finally teacher has face-to-face meeting with parents and students. Most have positive aspects about this process in terms of creativity, study attitude, and school life. Specially low-ranking students win a prize in robot competition. So they can gain confidence and accomplishment. This paper don't show statistic chart, but we surely knew that robot education for STEAM education seriously affect creativity huminity and job search.

In recent years, unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) have been used to search for lost or stolen radioactive sources to avoid radiation exposure for operators. To achieve autonomous localization of radioactive sources, the UGVs must have the ability to automatically determine the next radiation measurement location instead of following a predefined path. Also, the radiation field of radioactive sources has to be reconstructed or inverted utilizing discrete measurements to obtain the radiation intensity distribution in the area of interest. In this study, we propose an effective source localization framework and method, in which UGVs are able to autonomously explore in the radiation area to determine the location of radioactive sources through an iterative process: path planning, radiation field reconstruction and estimation of source location. In the search process, the next radiation measurement point of the UGVs is fully predicted by the design path planning algorithm. After obtaining the measurement points and their radiation measurements, the radiation field of radioactive sources is reconstructed by the Gaussian process regression (GPR) model based on machine learning method. Based on the reconstructed radiation field, the locations of radioactive sources can be determined by the peak analysis method. The proposed method is verified through extensive simulation experiments, and the real source localization experiment on a Cs-137 point source shows that the proposed method can accurately locate the radioactive source with an error of approximately 0.30 m. The experimental results reveal the important practicality of our proposed method for source autonomous localization tasks.

When operating in confined spaces or near obstacles, collision-free path planning is an essential requirement for autonomous exploration in unknown environments. This study presents an autonomous exploration technique using a carefully designed collision-free local planner. Using LiDAR range measurements, a local end-point selection method is designed, and the path is generated from the current position to the selected end-point. The generated path showed the consistent collision-free path in real-time by adopting the Euclidean signed distance field-based grid-search method. The results consistently demonstrated the safety and reliability of the proposed path-planning method. Real-world experiments are conducted in three different mines, demonstrating successful autonomous exploration flights in environment with various structural conditions. The results showed the high capability of the proposed flight autonomy framework for lightweight aerial robot systems. In addition, our drone performed an autonomous mission in the tunnel circuit competition (Phase 1) of the DARPA Subterranean Challenge.
As interest in underwater structures and ocean exploration increases, many researchers are proposing methods for modeling and controlling various remotely operated vehicles (ROVs). Recently, hybrid systems composed of an autonomous underwater vehicle and an ROV capable of remote control and autonomous navigation are being developed. In this study we introduce a method that models Ariari-aROV, an ROV consisting of five thrusters, and performs navigation. The proposed ROV can be controlled manually and by autonomous navigation when given a target point. An extended Kalman filter is utilized for sensor measurement correction for more precise navigation. The proposed method is verified through a simulation.
