  • This study is based on the recognition that the school mathematics education should reinforce the heuristic and constructional aspects related with discoveries of mathematical rules and understanding of mathematical concepts from real world situations as well as the deductive and formal aspects emphasizing on mathematical contents precisely. The 11th grade students of one class from a city high school with average were chosen. They were given time to learn various functions of Excel in regular classes of "Information Society and Computer" subject. They don't have difficulty using cells, mathematical functions and statistical functions in spreadsheet. Experiment was performed for six weeks and there were two hours of classes in a week. Considering the results of this research, teaching materials using spreadsheets play an important role in helping students to experience probabilistic and statistical reasoning and construct mathematical thinking. This implies that teaching materials using spreadsheet provide students with an opportunity to interact with probabilistic and statistical situations by adopting engineering which can encourage students to observe and experience various aspects of real world in authentic situations.

  • The recent Korean mathematics curriculum stresses to teach mathematics focusing on mathematical process composed of problem solving, reasoning and communication. To be successful in applying the rationale of the process-focused mathematics education, the assessment practice in classrooms should be also centered on mathematical process. In this study we conducted a large-scale survey on teachers' perspectives about the process-focused mathematics assessment. First, we surveyed teachers' opinion on current assessment practices in school mathematics related to regular school exams and performance assessments. Second, we investigated teachers' perception on mathematical process components such as problem solving, reasoning, and communication regarding how they should be assessed. Finally, we examined the difference of teachers' opinion according to their teaching experience, city size, and the type of school. Based on the results, we discussed implications for mathematics assessment and process-focused mathematical assessment.

  • Zen Cart is an open-source online store management system. It is used all over the world because of its stability and safety. Today, Zen Cart's session security mechanism is mainly used to verify user agents and check IP addresses. However, the security in verifying the user agent is lower and checking the IP address can affect the user's experience. This paper, which is based on the idea of session protection as proposed by Ben Adida, takes advantage of the HTML5's sessionStorage property to store the shared keys that are used in HMAC-SHA256 encryption. Moreover, the request path, current timestamp, and parameter are encrypted by using HMAC-SHA256 in the client. The client then submits the result to the web server as per request. Finally, the web server recalculates the HMAC-SHA256 value to validate the request by comparing it with the submitted value. In this way, the Zen Cart's open-source system is reinforced. Owing to the security and integrity of the HMAC-SHA256 algorithm, it can effectively protect the session security. Analysis and experimental results show that this mechanism can effectively protect the session security of Zen Cart without affecting the original performance.

  • Since most people experience mathematics anxiety(MA), the research on mathematics anxiety has been the main theme in the research of mathematics education. The study of brain science related to MA has recently been begun due to the advent of apparatuses so this study might have revisited MA as time passed and aimed to obtain realistic implications for the future study. For this purpose, we analyzed previous studies how to measure MA and how to develop the intervention to reduce MA. As the result, the researchers based on brain science studied the relevance of specific parts of the brain according to the degree of MA using only simple computational tasks. The research for developing the MA scale has upgraded how to measure both the cognitive and affective domains with more efficient ways. The research on intervention for MA has developed the programs using systematic desensitization, clinical counseling, STAD teaching method, writing methods, etc. However, we realized that more specified and reliable studies to solve the MA must be done in the future.

  • Many researches related to STEAM education have been actively conducted for developing elementary and secondary school students' comprehensive and logical thinking ability in relation to creativity education in Korea. Each sub factor of STEAM education requires creative thinking with the ability to be merged together to solve problems as integrated or combined forms in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. Also, these STEAM activities and experiences should be carried out at various places outside the classroom in school. Although various educational programs to enhance mathematical creativity have been emphasized for elementary and secondary school students, recent tendency to focus on classroom learning in the school makes it difficult to develop creative thinking ability of students. This research is mainly based on the result of the project "Development and Administration of STEAM Outreach Program in 2016" supported by KOFAC(Korea Foundation for the Achievement of Science & Creativity). The purpose of this research is to develop a STEAM outreach program including students' activity books, teachers' manuals and administration manual that can maximize STEAM-related interest of students, and to provide a chance for elementary and secondary school students to experience creative thinking based on sub factors of STEAM. The STEAM competency total score and the perception of convergence education were significantly increased for all students participating this program, but some sub factors showed different result by school levels. The STEAM outreach program developed by this study is designed to emphasize STEAM education especially 'based on' mathematics in order to provide students with the opportunity to experience more interest in the field of mathematics and will be able to provide an interesting creative STEAM outreach program that utilizes a variety of activities which, we expect, would help students to consider their career in the future.

  • This study aimed to investigate elementary school teachers' interest in mathematics textbooks following the new change in the publication system for elementary mathematics textbooks. To achieve this, an online survey platform was used to conduct a survey of elementary school teachers in teaching grade 3-4 across the country, and the responses of 199 participants were analyzed to determine their interest in mathematics textbooks. The research results showed that elementary school teachers had high levels of interest in mathematics textbooks, particularly in informational and personal interest. Moreover, the stages at which teachers showed the highest level of interest were reinforcement interest and operational interest. Analysis of the differences in interest in mathematics textbooks based on personal variables showed significant differences depending on the teacher's experience in mathematics education training, satisfaction with mathematics textbooks, and whether they majored in mathematics education. Based on these findings, it can be inferred that elementary school teachers have a high level of informational interest in the characteristics, strengths, weaknesses, and materials related to authorized and approved mathematics textbooks, and their high level of personal interest in mathematics textbooks can have a positive effect in line with the goal of the new textbook system. Additionally, since many teachers showed a high level of interest in reinforcement interest, it is necessary to devise various ways to support teachers' creative use and reconstruction of mathematics textbooks.
