  • Steganography is to conceal the existence of secrete data itself. The Emulab is a framework to provide real systems and network topology that can set up at anytime by researchers. In this paper, we show that steganography techniques can be applied in the Emulab environment. Steganography methods are evaluated on a standalone and sharing environments using the color bitmap images. The cover image is divided into RGB channels and then embedded the secret data at each client. The experimental results demonstrate that execution time is better in client/server environment as cover image size is increasing.

  • Unlike general-purpose CPUs, the GPUs have been specialized as many-core streaming processors, and are frequently replacing the CPUs in an increasing range of computations thanks to their outstanding parallel computing capacity. In order to respond to such trend, NVIDIA has recently issued a new parallel computing architecture called CUDA(Compute Unified Device Architecture), offering a flexible GPU programming environment for GPGPU(General Purpose GPU) computing. In general, when programmers use the CUDA API, they should clearly understand many aspects of GPU's computing architecture to produce efficient parallel software. In this article, we explain several optimization techniques for CUDA programming that we have verified through a lot of experiment and trial and error, and review how those techniques affect the performance of code execution. In particular, we use a specific problem as an example to analyze several elements that affect performances, such as effective accesses to hierarchical memory system, processor occupancy, and latency hiding. In conclusion, we present several directions that may be utilized effectively in CUDA-based parallel programming.

  • The android packer service using runtime execution compression technology switches to the original application using DexClassLoader. However the API interface of the DexClassLoader receives the path of the loaded DEX(Dalvik EXcutable) and the path of the compiled file. So there is a problem that the original file is exposed to the file system. Therefore, it is not safe to use the API for the packer service. In this paper, we solve this problem by changing the compile and load flow of the DexClassLoader API. Due to this changed execution flow, the complied file can be encrypted and stored in the file system or only in the memory and it can be decrypted or substituted at the time of subsequent loading to enable the original application conversion. we expected that the stability of the packer will increase beacause the proposed method does not expose the original file to the file system.

  • In this study, software-based countermeasures against a side-channel cryptanalysis of the Rabbit stream cipher were developed using Moteiv's Tmote Sky, a popular wireless sensor mote based on the Berkeley TelosB, as the target platform. The countermeasures build upon previous work by improving mask generation, masking and hiding other components of the algorithm, and introducing a key refreshment scheme. Our contribution brings improvements to previous countermeasures making the implementation resistant to higher-order attacks. Four functional metrics, namely resiliency, robustness, resistance, and scalability, were used for the assessment. Finally, performance costs were measured using memory usage and execution time. In this work, it was demonstrated that although attacks can be feasibly carried out on unprotected systems, the proposed countermeasures can also be feasibly developed and deployed on resource-constrained devices, such as wireless sensors.

  • In this paper, we propose a new reversible image authentication technique based on watermarking where if the image is authentic, the distortion due to embedding can be completely removed from the watermarked image after the hidden data has been extracted. This technique utilizes histogram characteristics of the difference image and modifies pixel values slightly to embed more data than other reversible data hiding algorithm. The proposed scheme is quite simple and the execution time is rather short. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed scheme can detect any modifications of the watermarked image.

  • With the explosive growth of computer networks, many remote service providing servers and multi-server network architecture are provided and it is extremely inconvenient for users to remember numerous different identities and passwords. Therefore, it is important to provide a mechanism for a remote user to use single identity and password to access multi-server network architecture without repetitive registration and various multi-server authentication schemes have been proposed in recent years. Recently, Tsaur et al. proposed an efficient and secure smart card based user authentication and key agreement scheme for multi-server environments. They claimed that their scheme satisfies all of the requirements needed for achieving secure password authentication in multi-server environments and gives the formal proof on the execution of the proposed authenticated key agreement scheme. However, we find that Tsaur et al.'s scheme is still vulnerable to impersonation attack and many logged-in users' attack. We propose an extended scheme that not only removes the aforementioned weaknesses on their scheme but also achieves user anonymity for hiding login user's real identity. Compared with other previous related schemes, our proposed scheme keeps the efficiency and security and is more suitable for the practical applications.

  • Recently, a cryptographic construct, called fuzzy vault, has been proposed for crypto-biometric systems, and some implementations for fingerprint have been reported to protect the stored fingerprint template by hiding the fingerprint features. In this paper, we implement the fuzzy fingerprint vault, combining fingerprint verification and fuzzy vault scheme to protect fingerprint templates. To implement the fuzzy fingerprint vault as a complete system, we have to consider several practical issues such as automatic fingerprint alignment, verification accuracy, execution time, error correcting code, etc. In addition, to protect the fuzzy fingerprint vault from the correlation attack, we propose an approach to insert chaffs in a structured way such that distinguishing the fingerprint minutiae and the chaff points obtained from two applications is computationally hard. Based on the experimental results, we confirm that the proposed approach provides higher security than inserting chaffs randomly without a significant degradation of the verification accuracy, and our implementation can be used for real applications.

  • In this paper, we proposed the image hiding method which decreases calculation amount by encrypt partial data using discrete wavelet transform and linear scale quantization which were adopted as the main technique for frequency transform in JPEG2000 standard. Also we used the chaotic system which has smaller calculation amount than other encryption algorithms and then dramatically decreased calculation amount. This method operates encryption process between quantization and entropy coding for preserving compression ratio of images and uses the subband selection method and the random changing method using the chaotic system. For ciphering the quantization index we use a novel image encryption algerian of cyclically shifted in the right or left direction and encrypts two quantization assignment method (Top-down/Reflection code), made change of data less. Also, suggested encryption method to JPEG2000 progressive transmission. The experiments have been performed with the proposed methods implemented in software for about 500 images. consequently, we are sure that the proposed are efficient image encryption methods to acquire the high encryption effect with small amount of encryption. It has been shown that there exits a relation of trade-off between the execution time and the effect of the encryption. It means that the proposed methods can be selectively used according to the application areas. Also, because the proposed methods are performed in the application layer, they are expected to be a good solution for the end-to-end security problem, which is appearing as one of the important problems in the networks with both wired and wireless sections.

  • According to the changes of the mobile environments, the usage and interest of the Android apps have been increased. But the usage of illegally-copied apps has been also increased. And the transparency and dependability of the app markets has been decreased. Therefore there are many cases for the copyright infringement of app developers. Although several methods for preventing illegally-copied apps have been studied, there may exist possible ways to bypass the methods. Since it is difficult to find out the first distributors of the illegally-copied apps, it is not easy to punish them legally. This paper proposes the method of detecting illegally-copied apps. The proposed detector can detect the illegally-copied apps using odex file, which is created when the app is installed. The detector can also find out the information of the first distributors based on forensic watermark technique. Since the illegally-copied app detector is running as a service on the system server, it is granted that the detector hides from the users. As an experiment result, the illegally-copied app detector takes on average within 0.2 seconds to detect and delete an illegally-copied app.
