  • This study is focused on the operation of truck with conscious for environmental logistics system to reduce empty truck movements, and to control running empty truck. With the logistics function, road transport represents the biggest environmental threat. Using nonrenewable natural resources, contributing to air and noise pollution, trucks are environmentally unfriendly. Any steps to reduce transport activity will help minimize negative impact. In particular, noxious emissions must be reduced, but in the long term more environmentally friendly vehicles are required.

  • Today, the logistics industry has played a critical role in national economy activities. The low cost and high efficiency of the logistics industry are meaningful in the improvement of national competitiveness and the logistics industry. However, efficiency of logistics is lower than that of the United States and Japan since most quantities are processed in road transportation in Korea. With regard to this, existing studies expected a saving of social and environmental costs due to a decrease of road transportation as well as improvement of logistics productivity due to bulk transportation through activation of rail and costal transport. For the expectation, the existing multimodal transport systems should be improved first. Therefore it aimed to develop scenario-based simulation models of multimodal transport systems for decision makers in charge of improvement in the logistics area. For model development, this study utilized Thinking Process and System Dynamics(TP-SD) methodology.

  • Continuous oil price rising and the regulation of carbon emmission makes companies to have higher competitiveness. because of this trend, companies are trying to establish and manage efficient logistics system to improve customer service and reduce cost, so more competitive logistics complex is needed. To construct this kind of logistics complex, proper policy and logistics system for transportation is necessary. Especially, efficient operation through establishing system of logistics at the complex is very important for low cost and environmental friendly point of view. So this paper presents logistics network operation model for efficient transportation, especially approaches the problem with Multi-Phase.

  • This study aims to look into how we Korean ports can improve NODE competitiveness among northern-east region of Asia, and to examine a conceptual as well as practical methodology approach to be applied in terms of cluster. Also many other researches have done to take out the conclusion, which is environmental aspects as economic and logistical one in terms of northern-east region of Asia, basic concept with NODE, and matters concerning seaport from the viewpoint of hub-spoke, etc. Then finally it is suggested that we Korea has to concentrate on seaport, which is equipped with logistics cluster provide into value added logistics, in order to keep and gain the NODE competitiveness in northern-east region of Asia.

  • At this point that port industry brings a new change as the concept of 'Green Logistics' appears, studies on an economic analysis of existing port Re-modeling have normally been conducted focused on market value factors such as Benefit-Cost analysis, On the other hand, there have been few studies on the analysis of Non-market value factors such as environmental value. Therefore, the purpose of this study is aimed to establish a Feasibility analysis model of Incheon inner port Re-modeling in the aspect of Non-market Benefit Factors classified by related factors such as, marine environment, waterfront facility and welfare of users by using AHP methodology based on the extracted result through previous studies.

  • The logistics information system has been recently attracting a great deal of attention for its importance in the national economy. It should be noted, however, that the degree of the system utilization differs by the capabilities of the logistics firms such as logistics management skills, robustness of the organization, technical sophistication, and administrative abilities. A survey was conducted in the Busan and Kyungnam area for 174 companies in the logistics and manufacturing industry. The results of this study can be summarized as follows : First, the degree of utilization of the logistics information system varies depending upon business-type details. Secondly, utilization of the logistics information system is equally important for both manufacturing and logistics companies. Thirdly, it was found that the executives of the companies with logistics management skills can play a key role in utilizing the logistics information system. Finally, the degree of utilization has positive relationships with the logistics performance as the companies benefit from the system not just for saving costs, but more importantly for providing higher-quality services for their customers.

  • Purpose - This is a case study aimed at finding a solution for improving the pallet loading efficiency in the process of delivering products through a transshipment using the T-11 and T-12 pallet systems. The study proposes a solution by demonstrating the case of a certain manufacturer A, who aims to reduce the logistics cost by using packaging sizes that are commonly applicable and can improve the compatibility between the T-11 pallet system, designated as the standard pallet in Korea, and the T-12 pallet system, which is commonly used in other foreign countries. The use of common sizes increases compatibility among the two systems and reduces both logistics and environmental costs. Thus, this case study calculates the quantitative benefits of applying common packaging sizes to improve the compatibility between the T-11 and T-12 pallet systems. These systems are considered to be the most important and widely used transportation systems in the global logistics industry. Research design, data, and methodology - This study examined manufacturer A's representative product and delivery system and assessed how manufacturer A was affected by the use of incompatible packaging sizes in the T-11 (1100 mm×1100 mm) and T-12 (1200mm×1000 mm) pallet systems, which were specified in the KS T 1002 standard. In addition, this study analyzed the impact of these packaging sizes on A's logistics cost. The TOPS program (Total Packaging System) was used to simulate pallet loading efficiency, and the main parameter studied was volume, as calculated from length, width, and height. Results - When the sizes of secondary packaging were not compatible across the T-11 and T-12 pallet systems, a reduction in loading efficiency was observed, leading to an increase in logistics cost during transshipment. Such low loading efficiencies led to a further loss of efficiency in transportation, storage and unloading. This may have a possible environmental impact with high social expenses, such as increased CO2 emissions. Hence, this study proposed that the KS T 1002 standard be amended to include 21 packaging sizes, including 7 sizes of the 600 mm×500 mm category, which are compatible with both the T-11 and T-12 pallet systems. Conclusions - This study found that the 69 standard sizes under the T-11 pallet system and the 40 standard sizes under the T-12 system in the KS T 1002 standard can be simplified and reduced to 21 mutually compatible packaging sizes, enabling logistics standardization and reducing national-level logistics costs. If the government pays attention to this study and considers the standardization of common sizes for the T-11 and T-12 pallet systems and amends the KS T 1002 standard, this study will deliver practical value to the global logistics industry, apart from being of academic significance.

  • The expansion on the scale of international trade and rapid economic growth in Northeast Asia have caused intense competition among global companies for securing international logistics center in Northeast Asia. Analyzing location competitiveness for international logistics center in Northeast Asia, this paper aims to extract implications for enhancing locational competitiveness. Employing the relative importance among location selection factors extracted from AHP analysis in prior study, we evaluated the major five port-cities in Northeast Asia including Busan, Gwangyang, Shanghai, Qingdao and Tokyo. In the evaluations, Shanghai (3.926) ranked as the first, followed by Busan (3.859), Qingdao (3.555), Tokyo (3.013) and Gwangyang (2.915). Furthermore, the causal relationships between determinants for location choice decision (logistics factor, cost factor, market factor, service factor and environmental factor) and dependent variables (competitiveness of international logistics center, potentiality to growth, present intention to move into and future plan to move into) were analyzed to provide implications. Results provide useful insights for further improvements, and helps strategic agenda for future development of port-cities.
