  • The objectives of this study are to identify the environmental consumer behavior, to examine the degree of environmental consumer behavior of the junior high school students, and to investigate the educational system of a school which influence the consumer behavior. The data used in this study are 368 male and female students in 9th grade in Anyang City, Kyunggi-do province. Statistics used for data analysis are means, standard deviation, t-test, and Multiple Regression Analysis. The results of the research are summarized as follows : First of all, as a tendency of the environmental consumer behavior of junior high students, the primary factor to the environmental problems was media, and among those, TV and radio was the medium to environmental problems. This implies the fact that the time juveniles interact with mass media is significantly growing, which means that transmitting environmental problems by programs targeted to adolescences through mass media would be effective. Next, the disposal process showed the highest environmental consumer behavior, followed by the consuming and purchasing process. Education on the purchasing process will be necessary to encourage environmental consumer behavior. The route of obtaining environmental knowledge was basically from school and the level of the average environmental knowledge fumed out to be low. This shows the need to produce and distribute media education materials because educating the conclusion of actual experiments will be more effective than that of theoretical studies. The conformity showed general indifference on environmental consumer behavior and the environmental resources were normally collected seperated. Conformity is a cultural bond teenagers think important, therefore education available for students about the same age should be developed. Next, the value intention of the surveyed showed that the ecological intention was highest, followed by economic and convenience intentions. This means the morale of the junior high students to environmental consumer behavior is set sound. Females tended to act more environmentally, while males showed more intention to economic causes. Also, the students of the boys-only or girls-only schools showed higher environmentally sound behavior in disposal processes. Finally, the environmental consumer behavior was influenced most by environmental consumer behavior of the conformity group, followed by ecological morale, frequency of encountering environmental problems, gender, environmental knowledge, whether the school was boys-only or girls-only or not, economical morale, respectively. The largest factor affecting the consumer activity of the purchase, consumption, and disposal process was environmental consumer behavior of the conformity group, along with the ecological morale, and the frequency of encountering environmental problems. This implies that conformity group is a large factor to the juveniles and a plan to entice the environmental consumer behavior of conformity groups are necessary.

The results of this study are summarized below: First, The style of consumers' purchase behavior can be categorized on a basis of four factors: fashioned-demonstrative consumer group focusing on fashion and demonstration effects when purchasing; rational consumer group more likely to concern price, quality, and product function; indifferent consumer group having no interest in purchasing; and fashioned-functional consumer group who values not only fashion but function. Second, the result of investigating the differences of consumers' attitudes toward environment reveals that the level of concern and awareness for environment is highest in rational consumer group, but lowest in indifferent consumer group. Also, it is higher in fashioned-functional consumer group than in fashioned-demonstrative consumer group. Lastly, the level of pro-environmental behavior in the stage of purchase, usage, and disposal is highest in rational consumer group, but lowest in indifferent consumer group. The level of pro-environmental behavior in usage stage is inactive in fashioned-demonstrative consumer group, whereas that in disposal stage is active in fashioned-functional consumer group for fashioned-demonstrative consumer group. It was so, especially in the area of not-being-a-litterbug.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the casual relationship between expanded self-concept including self-esteem and self-congruity with various variables of pro-environmental psychology and green consumer behavior simultaneously by using the model of structural equation. Results of the study showed that independent self-construals only affected pro-environmental psychology and dependent self-construals did not affect pro-environmental psychology and green consumer behavior, while metapersonal self-construals affected both pro-environmental psychology and green consumer behavior. Consumers with independent self-construals in strong individualistic tendency had an affirmative thoughts about environment friendliness while consumers considerate of others with dependent self-construals in strong collective tendency showed low pro-environmental psychology and green consumer behavior, which was interesting findings. In regards to the effect of metapersonal Self-construal on pro-environmental psychology, it was analyzed that lower consumer self-esteem increased pro-environmental psychology, and also when self-congruity was low, metapersonal Self-construal had a positive effect on green consumer behavior.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine green consumer behavior (green product purchasing behavior and green consumption life) affected by demographical characteristics, and cognition degree of green life (cognition of a green indicator, a green life catalyst system, and environmental problems). It's also to promote strategy and suggest effective activation plans for the vitalization of green consumer behavior. To carry out the task, verification of credibility, multiple regression analysis, two-step cluster analysis, and multinomial logistic analysis were used. The results are as follows: First, the factors that effect green product purchasing behavior were gender, age, cognitive of a green indicator, carbon points system, electricity peak hour system, and seriousness of environmental damage due to lifestyle. Second, the factors that effect green lifestyle were gender, age, carbon grade indicator system, cognition of a green system, and the seriousness of environmental damage due to lifestyle. Third, the comparative group characteristic analysis showed low rates for careless green consumer behavior groups compared to the passive green consumer behavior groups in cognition of a green indicator, green system, and environmental problems. For active green consumer behavior groups, the analysis showed high rates in cognition of carbon grades, eco-labeling, electricity peak hour system, and environmental damage due to lifestyle. In order to encourage green consumer behavior, it's evident that cognition of a green indicator, a green life catalyst system, and environmental problems need to be improved through strategic education and continuous encouragement.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop an environmental education program for environmentally friendly consumer behaviors by analyzing factors influencing the attitude-behavior relationship, and examining consumer information needs about environmental problems. Environmental information demanded by consumers could be classified into five main areas; 'use and disposal of environmentally friendly resources', 'purchase of environmentally friendly goods', 'environmental problems and consumer sovereignty', 'environmental laws and regulations' and 'environmental values and consumer's civil consciousness'. Based on the study results, an environmental education program for consumers was developed which consisted of two main parts, basis and practice. The former aimed to strengthen consumer consciousness about environmental problems and the latter, to make regular environmentally friendly consumer behaviors. The two parts were correlated. Thus strengthening environment-related consumer consciousness by learning the part of basis could promote of environmentally friendly consumer behaviors.
