  • This study is focused on the effects of one's blood type on determining awarness and emotional character of Elementary students, by comparing each individual's brain wave. Observed records are from those students who volunteered for KRIJUS(Korea Research Institute of Jungshin Science)'s brain wave measurement from September 2005 to December 2007. The whole 4010 elementary student group consists of 1562 female and 2448 male. Blood types are as follows; 873male(36%) 563female(37%) for type A, 641male(26%) 424female(27%) for type B, 622male(25%) 406female(26%) for type 0, and 312male(13%) 159female(10%) for type AB, A>B>O>AB dominately ordered. The research had shown no obvious relation between the blood types and their awarness or emotional status of elementary students. Thus, it would not be such a wise decision to tell one's character depending on his/her blood type. This result suggested that follow-up researches should be figuring out more detailed explanations for gifted education.

  • Here we live in a fast changing world. The information and communication technologies have been surprisingly developing and making progress of our society. One of the benefit about the information and communication technologies is an internet. We can't imagine our life without it and it finally ends up with causing internet addiction which is called side effect of it. Most of former studies were, however, about game addiction and psychological factors of indivisual. In fact, there was not enough studies about internet addiction of computer science gifted students. If we analize the difference between computer science gifted students and average students when it comes to factors of internet addiction, we would surely be able to find out the result which is very helpful for cause analysis and its remedy. This paper examined the risk and protection factors of the former studies and choose various factors through Delphi analysis by specialists of information and science gifted students. Comparative analysis of computer science gifted students and average students was done through the test tools. And picking up unique factors of computer science gifted students, this paper shows the implication that contributes to protection of internet addiction and its remedy.

  • The purpose of this paper is to find a method of measuring mathematical creativity reasonably. In the pursuit of this purpose, we designed four multiple solution tasks that consist of two kinds of open tasks; 'tasks with open solutions' and 'tasks with open answers'. We collected data by conducting an interview with a gifted fifth grade student using the four multiple solution tasks we designed and analyzed mathematical creativity of the student using Leikin's model(2009). Research results show that the mathematical creativity scores of two students who suggest the same solutions in a different order may vary. The more solutions a student suggests, the better score he/she gets. And fluency has a stronger influence on mathematical creativity than flexibility or originality of an idea. Leikin's model does not consider the usefulness nor the elaboration of an idea. Leikin's model is very dependent on the tasks and the mathematical creativity score also varies with each marker.

  • This study aims to measure intelligence (cognitive characteristics), self-esteem, mathematical attitudes, and scientific attitudes (affective characteristics) of gifted students from low-income families, and to identify the relationship among these variables. 147 students in the lower grades of elementary schools who were enrolled to university-based gifted education centers were participants of the study. The results showed that the percentile scores of each variable were 85% for intelligence, 75.6% for self-esteem, 73.3% for mathematical attitudes, and 71.3% for mathematical attitudes. There was no statistically significant relationship between intelligence and the affective characteristics (i.e., self-esteem, mathematical attitudes, and scientific attitudes), while statistically significant relationships were shown between self-esteem and mathematical attitudes (r=.448, p=.000), between self-esteem and scientific attitudes (r=.522, p=.000), and between mathematical attitudes and scientific attitudes (r=.448, p=.000). The results suggest that although the gifted students from low-income families show lower levels compared to other gifted student groups, their potential level of giftedness is considerably high, which calls for appropriate educational support systems designed for this population.

  • This study attempts to explore the nature of science anxiety experienced by science-gifted middle school students based on Giorgi's phenomenological research method. Among the first-year middle school students selected by the University-affiliated Science Education Institute for the Gifted, six science-gifted students with high levels of science trait anxiety and science state anxiety experience were selected. Two interviews related to experience of science anxiety were conducted with participants. As a result of the analysis, science anxiety experienced by science-gifted students was caused by setting the ideal self-concept, lack of confidence, past experiences, difficulty in contents, and something valuable. Students complained of physical·physiological, cognitive, emotional·psychological discomfort when they felt science anxiety, and recognized it as an opportunity for growth. In addition, science-gifted students were shown to cope with various ways such as confronting uneasy situations directly or refining their minds to overcome various uncomfortable symptoms that arise when science anxiety is triggered. Some students thought that no special efforts were required to lower their level of anxiety because anxiety was relieved over time. The students had both negative and positive meanings for science anxiety. The results of this study will help teachers in-depth understanding of middle school science-gifted students who experience science anxiety and provide a theoretical basis for what kind of educational environment should be created and educational programs should be provided in relation to science anxiety.

  • This study aims to explore meta-modeling knowledge of gifted students through the modeling. To do this, five gifted students were asked to do modeling related to candle burning, and all the processes of modeling were observed and then individual interviews were conducted. As a result of the study, two students were classified as first level and three students were classified as second level. The students of the first level did not have any model generation or model-based prediction activities, and observation was the most meaningful activity. On the other hand, the students of the second level performed all four modeling processes. However, the generation of the model and the prediction using the model were relatively strong. The data they gained from the experiments was perceived as just confirming the absolute model. No student was found in Level 3 or Level 4. The results of this study show that gifted students remain at the progression level of recognizing the model as an objective reality, and in order to cultivate a true scientist, it is necessary to educate the gifted students to recognize the subjectivity of the model.

  • Utilizing programming languages for data visualization can enhance the efficiency and effectiveness in handling data volume, processing time, and flexibility. However, practice is required to become proficient in programming. Therefore public data-based the problem bank was developed to practice data visualization in a programming automatic assessment system. Public data were collected based on topics suggested in the curriculum and were preprocessed to make it suitable for users to visualize. The problem bank was associated with the mathematics curriculum to learn various data visualization methods. The developed problems were reviewed to expert and pilot testing, which validated the level of the questions and the potential of integrating data visualization in math education. However, feedback indicated a lack of student interest in the topics, leading us to develop additional questions using student-center data. The developed problem bank is expected to be used when students who have learned Python in primary school information gifted or middle school or higher learn data visualization.
