An Analysis of Effective Throughput in Distributed Wireless Scheduling

  • Several distributed scheduling policies have been proposed with the objective of attaining the maximum throughput region or a guaranteed fraction throughput region. These policies consider only the theoretical throughput and do not account the lost in throughput due to the time complexity of implementing an algorithm in practice. Therefore, we propose a novel concept called effective throughput to characterize the actual throughput by taking into account the time complexity. Effective throughput can be viewed as the actual transmitted data without including the control message overhead. Numerical results demonstrate that in practical scheduling, time complexity significantly affects throughput. The performance of throughput degrades when the time complexity is high.

  • When a new facility such as automobile assembly line is designed, computer simulation is often used to estimate its actual throughput level. If it falls short of the target throughput level, then the design must be modified to increase the throughput capacity. For complex facilities having parallel processes and network of material flows, the modification procedure is not trivial. Even if the capacity of a particular bottleneck process is increased, the target throughput may not be achieved because the bottleneck may move to another process. Furthermore, each process has a different set of options with different cost to increase the capacity. In this study, we present a systematic procedure of determining the cost-effective set of options which achieves the target throughput.

A Study on Estimating Container Throughput in Korean Ports using Time Series Data

  • The port throughput situation has changed since the 2008 financial crisis in the US. Therefore, we studied the situation, accurately estimating port traffic of Korean port after the 2008 financial crisis. We ensured the proper port facilities in response to changes in port traffic. In the results of regression analysis, Korean GDP and the real effective exchange rate of Korean Won were found to increase the container throughput in Korean and Busan port, as well as trade volume with China. Also, the real effective exchange rate of Korean Won was found to increase the port transshipment cargo volume. Based on the ARIMA models, we forecasted port throughput and port transshipment cargo volume for the next six years (72 months), from 2015 to 2020. As a result, port throughput of Korean and Busan ports was forecasted by increasing annual the average from about 3.5% to 3.9%, and transshipment cargo volume was forecasted by increasing the annual average about 4.5%.

  • In the presence of a high power cellular network, picocells are added to a Macro-cell layout aiming to enhance total system throughput from cell-splitting. While because of the different transmission power between macrocell and picocell, and co-channel interference challenges between the existing macrocell and the new low power node-picocell, these problems result in no substantive improvement to total system effective throughput. Some works have investigated on these problems. Pico Cell Range Expansion (CRE) technique tries to employ some methods (such as adding a bias for Pico cell RSRP) to drive to offload some UEs to camp on picocells. In this work, we propose two solution schemes (including cell selection method, channel allocation and serving process) and combine new adaptive frequency partitioning reuse scheme to improve the total system throughput. In the simulation, we evaluate the performances of heterogeneous networks for downlink transmission in terms of channel utilization per cell (pico and macro), call blocking probability, outage probability and effective throughput. The simulation results show that the call blocking probability and outage probability are reduced remarkably and the throughput is increased effectively.

TDD-OFDMA 하향 링크에서의 수율 공평성과 서비스 커버리지 보장을 위한 패킷 스케줄링 알고리즘 연구 (Packet Scheduling Algorithms for Throughput Fairness and Coverage Enhancement in TDD-OFDMA Downlink Network)

  • 본 논문은 IEEE 802.16e 기반의 TDD-OFDMA 하향 링크에서의 수율 공평성 및 서비스 커버리지 보장을 위한, WFS(weighted Fair scheduling) 알고리즘과 TGS(Throughput Guarantee Scheduling) 알고리즘을 제안하고, RR(Round Robin), PF(Proportional Fair), FFTH(Fast Fair Throughput), FTH(Fair Throughput) 스케줄링 알고리즘과의 비교를 통한 성능 분석을 수행하였다. 제안된 알고리즘의 성능은 64 kbps와 128 kbps 의 두 개의 최소 사용자 수율 요구 조건에서의 서비스 커버리지, 유효 섹터 수율, 공평성 평가를 통하여 분석되었다. 상대적으로 낮은 64 kbps 요구 조건에서, 제안된 알고리즘은 lxEV-DV 공평성 기준을 만족시키면서, 기존의 스케줄링 방식들보다 서비스 커버리지 내의 가용 사용자 수를 증가시켰다. 또한 128 kbps 요구 조건에서는 PF 스케줄링 방식에 비하여 유효 섹터 수율의 손실이 거의 없이, 서비스 커버리지를 증가시킬 수 있음을 보였다.

  • 본 논문에서는 OFDMA 기반 relay 시스템에서 throughput 성능개선을 위한, Base Station (BS)과 Relay Station (RS)의 sub-cell 커버리지 설정기법을 제안한다. Relay 시스템에서는 BS-RS 링크에서 무선 자원을 추가로 소비하므로, RS간 자원의 재사용을 고려하면 자원의 효과적 사용이 가능하다. 그러나, 이때 신호의 간섭이 증가하므로 단말기의 수신 Signal to Interference and Noise Ratio (SINR)에 영향을 미치게 된다. 그리므로 본 연구에서는 자원 재사용 정도에 따른 사용가능 자원의 증가를 수신 SINR과 함께 sub-cell 커버리지 결정의 요인으로 함께 고려한다. 모의실험을 통한 결과분석을 통해 throughput 성능을 개선할 수 있는 sub-cell 커버리지를, 다양한 자원재사용 패턴에 따라 도출하였다.

PPM-기반의 UWB 시스템에 대한 PRF와 슬롯 시간의 영향 (The Effects of PRF and Slot Interval on the PPM-Based Ultra Wide-Band Systems)

  • 본 논문에서는 다중경로 채널 환경에서 펄스 반복 빈도 (pulse repetition frequency, PRF)와 슬롯 시간이 UWB (ultra wide band) 무선 통신 시스템의 데이터 전송율 (throughput) 성능에 미치는 영향을 조사하고 이를 기반하여 유효 데이터 전송율이 최대화되도록 하는 PRF와 슬롯 시간을 이용한 전송율 제어를 제안한다. 최근에 UWB 시스템이 갖고 있는 장점으로 인하여 근거리 고속 무선 데이터 전송과 관련하여 관심이 고조되고 있다. UWB 시스템에서는 데이터 전송율을 결정짓는 파라미터로는 펄스를 반복하는 펄스 반복 회수와 펄스간의 간격을 결정짓는 슬롯 시간을 들 수 있다. AWGN이 존재하는 다중경로 채널 하에 있는 UWB 시스템은 펄스간의 간섭(inter-pulse interference, IPI)과 잡음에 의하여 시스템 성능이 저하된다. UWB 시스템은 이 두 파라미터의 조정을 통하여 시스템의 성능을 유지 또는 개선할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 두 파라미터의 변화가 다양한 채널 환경에서 데이터 전송율에 미치는 영향을 모의실험을 통하여 관측하고 이를 기반하여 설계된 가변 전송율을 사용하는 것이 비가변적인 방법에 비하여 유효 데이터 전송율 측면에서 우수함을 모의실험을 통하여 검증하였다.

Spectrum Sharing SDMA with Limited Feedback: Throughput Analysis

  • In the context of effective usage of a scarce spectrum resource, emerging wireless communication standards will demand spectrum sharing with existing systems as well as multiple access with higher spectral efficiency. We mathematically analyze the sum throughput of a spectrum sharing space-division multiple access (SDMA) system, which forms a transmit null in the direction of other coexisting systems while satisfying orthogonal beamforming constraints. For a large number of users N, the SDMA throughput scales as log N at high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) ((J-1) loglog N at normal SNR), where J is the number of transmit antennas. This indicates that multiplexing gain of the spectrum sharing SDMA is $\frac{J-1}{J}$ times less than that of the non-spectrum sharing SDMA only using orthogonal beamforming, whereas no loss in multiuser diversity gain. Although the spectrum sharing SDMA always has lower throughput compared to the non-spectrum sharing SDMA in the non-coexistence scenario, it offers an intriguing opportunity to reuse spectrum already allocated to other coexisting systems.

High-throughput identification of chrysanthemum gene function and expression: An overview and an effective proposition

  • Since whole-genome duplication (WGD) of diploid Chrysanthemum nankingense and de novo assembly whole-genome of C. seticuspe have been obtained, they have afforded to perceive the diversity evolution and gene discovery in the improved investigation of chrysanthemum breeding. The robust tools of high-throughput identification and analysis of gene function and expression produce their vast importance in chrysanthemum genomics. However, the gigantic genome size and heterozygosity are also mentioned as the major obstacles preventing the chrysanthemum breeding practices and functional genomics analysis. Nonetheless, some of technological contemporaries provide scientific efficient and promising solutions to diminish the drawbacks and investigate the high proficient methods for generous phenotyping data obtaining and system progress in future perspectives. This review provides valuable strategies for a broad overview about the high-throughput identification, and molecular analysis of gene function and expression in chrysanthemum. We also contribute the efficient proposition about specific protocols for considering chrysanthemum genes. In further perspective, the proper high-throughput identification will continue to advance rapidly and advertise the next generation in chrysanthemum breeding.
