  • The purpose of study was to evaluate the amount and the accuracy of oral health care information in childcare books. Thirty five Korean childcare books were selected and analyzed. Twenty eight(80%) books contained information about oral health care and the average amount was 4.8 pages(1.2%). Among those books, the book that a dentist wrote the content and the book that was given advice from a dentist were one(3.6%) and one(3.6%), respectively. The eruption time and sequence of deciduous teeth and the toothbrushing method were described in 96.4% and 82.1% of those books. The books which contained the other oral health care contents were less than half. Three(10.7%) books contained inaccurate contents. Therefore, dentist should give oral health care information to parents more actively. And it seemed to be necessary to study other information sources like magazines, TV programs, internet resources, and education programs by health centers and department of obsterics.

  • Bark is a general medium for potted Cymbidium in Korea, but it is difficult to shake off or eliminate the medium from the roots before exporting the potted plants. This working process can injure the roots and then deteriorate plant marketability. This study was carried out to select the optimum medium easier to eliminate from the roots instead of bark and the optimum amount of applied fertilizer to improve the plant growth. Cymbidium young plants 'Honey Hot' and 'Desert Look' were planted in pots with bark, cocochip, and peatmoss. The plants were treated with 2, 4, and 6 g of slow release fertilizer. The plant growth characteristics were investigated in the first and second years during production period of three years. The medium characteristics and mineral nutrient content of the leaves were also examined in the second year. In the first year, the plant growth of 'Desert Look' was improved in all peatmoss treatments more than bark. 'Honey Hot' showed the highest plant growth values in the bark treatment. In the second year, the plant growth of the two cultivars was improved in peatmoss. Cocochip treatments showed the lower plant growth values than bark and peatmoss in the first and second year. There was no significant difference among fertilizer amounts in all the media. The higher CEC values of peatmoss medium resulted to higher capacity to hold more nutrients than bark, and the nutrient retention of the peatmoss improved the plant growth. The higher K and Ca contents in the leaves would contribute to improve the plant growth. Consequently, it would be possible to use peatmoss instead of bark for Cymbidium young plants, but there must be always attention to appropriately water the medium and manage the moisture.

  • This study aims to propose the future direction of research of the Nuri-Curriculum, a national level curriculum, analyzing the subjects, the research methods, and the contents of Nuri-Curriculum studies, and current research trends. For these purposes, 102 Nuri-Curriculum articles in major child care-related journals from 2012-2015 are reviewed. PASW 18.0 program was used to calculate frequency and percentage rate. The major findings are as follows. First, a considerable amount of research has been carried out despite a relatively short implementation period. Second, many research topics dealt with include curriculum-related material. Third, 74.5 percent of the articles used quantitative methods, and content-analysis was the most widely used method among them. On the contrary, there was relatively less research which used the experimental method applying the curriculum to real practice, observational or qualitative method. Fourth, most of the research contents focus on the direction of making of the curriculum. Therefore, this paper proposes the necessity of supplementary research including its application to real practice as the research approaches on the Nuri-Curriculum performed so far have been limited.

  • This study was performed to investigate the effects of CMS (Condensed Molasses Soluble, a by-product generated from molasses during the lysine production) on the nutrient uptake, growth and yield of rice. The nitrogen uptake of rice was found to be higher in CMS treatments compared to the control treatment during the growth period. The leaf color index, height of the plants and number of tillers were increased by the application of CMS. Rice yield was highest in ($7,070kg\;ha^{-1}$) and an increase of 21% was observed in 0.3% CMS treated plots compared untreated control ($3,000kg\;ha^{-1}$). The protein content of unpolished rice increased from 4 to 28% due to the effect of CMS, while Toyo palatability score decreased. Though a decrease in pH and an increase in EC values were observed with CMS application, this phenomenon did not affect the growth and yield of rice in paddy field.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the 1st and 2nd Korea Earth Science Olympiad (KESO) items, in order to find informations to enhance item quality. To do this, internal and external item classification frameworks are developed. Item difficulty (P), discrimination index (DI), correlation, and reliability are estimated by using classical test theory. Generalizability is also estimated by applying the generalizability theory. The results of item classification are as follows: (1) ‘Geology’, ‘astronomy’ and ‘data analysis and interpretation’ are dominant in content and inquiry process domain, respectively. Nearly every item has textbook context. (2) There is no difference between the preliminary and final tests in terms of their thinking skills sections. (3) As a whole, the ratio of items with pictures is high in item representation. However, multiple-choice and short answer items are more common in preliminary competition, and essay type items are found more often in final competition. The ratio of simple items is high in middle school section and preliminary competition, but composite items are dominant in high school section and final competition. The findings of item analysis are as follows: (1) In the middle school section, P is low and DI is moderate. But in the high school section, there is a considerable differences between science high schools and other high schools in general. (2) The highest correlation is reported between the scores of meteorology domain and total score in middle school, whereas in high school astronomy domain and total score show the highest correlation. (3) General high school section show the highest Cronbach $\alpha$ and generalizability. (4) General high school section show acceptable generalizability coefficient (> 0.80), but middle and science high school section should increase the number of items to reach acceptable generalizability level.

  • The Q&A service of the official Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI) webpage was installed in 2000 and have been actively used since then. In this paper, we analyze the questions asked through the Q&A service and the number of inquiries with the aid of statistical methods. We also study the contents of the questions. Specifically, we have created statistics of questions and inquiries that go monthly and yearly, and have developed categories to analyze the characteristics of questions in regards to their cognitive aspects. Each question is categorized into two elements based on their recognitive aspect: science knowledge or science study. Each element also has sub-categories that help readers understand the characteristics of the questions. For the analysis, we used a sample consisted of questions from July to December, 2004. Through this study, we achieved a better understanding of the questions asked by the Q&A service. We are planning to improve the quality of the Q&A service by extending the size of the FAQ(frequently asked questions). Throughout this study, we find that the number of questions are increasing with time, and the overall quality of the questions is improving. As we expect the number of people using our Q&A service to increase and the questions to get more difficult to answer, development of improved content is required.
