학령초기 아동 어머니의 도서관 이용만족도에 영향을 미치는 생태학적 변인 탐색 (Ecological Variables Affecting Library Satisfactions of Mothers of Early School-age Children)

  • 본 연구는 초등학교 1학년 자녀를 둔 어머니의 도서관 이용만족도에 영향을 미치는 변인을 생태학적 접근으로 탐색하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 선행연구를 바탕으로 어머니의 도서관 이용만족도의 영향을 줄 수 있는 변인을 설정하고, 한국아동패널 8차년도(2015) 자료를 활용하여 상관분석, 다중회귀분석, 위계적 회귀분석, 단계적 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과, 어머니들은 도서관에 중간 수준의 이용만족도를 보였고, 도서관 편리성, 지역 공공시설 이용만족도, 지역 공공시설 편리성, 거주지역 유형, 자녀 독서시간, 양육정책 지원의 도움 정도의 순으로 어머니의 도서관 이용만족도에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 사회문화적인 맥락에서 도서관 이용만족도를 살펴봄으로써 도서관 내부 요인뿐 아니라 가족, 지역사회, 양육정책이 도서관 이용만족도에 영향을 미침을 보여주었다. 이 결과가 도서관 정책 수립에 실천적 함의를 제공하기를 기대한다.

Factors Associated with Use and Types of Multiple Concurrent Care and Education Arrangements in Early Childhood in South Korea

  • This paper explores factors associated with multiple concurrent care and education arrangements in early childhood in South Korea. It draws on a subsample from the Korean Longitudinal Survey of Women and Families. Results show that about one-fifth of the families utilized multiple arrangements for their first preschool child. The primary non-parental option in multiplicity was nurseries or kindergartens. Home care and education options such as home study materials were found to be most prevalent secondary non-parental option, followed by services at private institution as well as relative care. Children's age, care cost, non-parental care time and time constraints were found to be positively related to the incidence of multiplicity for the first preschool child while family income and cost constraints were negatively associated. As a secondary option in the multiplicity, services at private institutions increased with children's age, care cost and when the grandparents live far from the parents' house. Home care and education utilization was found more among mothers with low degree of time constraints. Utilization of relative support decreased with the children's age and meant lower care cost and increased with mother's employment, fathers' education, family income, cost constraints and when grandparents live nearby. This paper, based on the associated factors, suggests how issues of children enrichment and constraints might be related to the multiplicity.

예체능 방과후 교육프로그램의 질과 아동의 정서조절 및 사회적 능력 (The Quality of After-School Programs Focused on Artistic-Physical Activities and Children′s Emotional Regulation and Social Competence)

  • This study investigated the quality of after-school programs focused on artistic-physical activities, children's emotional regulation and social competence. The subjects were 224 elementary school children (1st through 6th grades) and 41 teachers. The measures were questionnaire(after-school activities), Assessment Profile for Early Childhood Programs(school-age), the Emotional Regulation Scale. and the Social Competency Scale. The data were analyzed by Cronbach's a, frequency, percentile, mean, and t-test. The results indicated that emotional regulation and, social competence were significantly different according to the quality of after-school programs: Children in a higher group of curriculum quality and interaction with teacher had better emotional regulation than did children in a lower group. Children in a higher group of curriculum quality and scheduling had better social competence(leadership and competence) than did children in a lower group.

사회성 훈련 프로그램에 참가한 학령 초기 아동의 사회적 행동 변화에 대한 질적 연구 (A Qualitative Study of Early School-age Children's Experiences on Social Skills Training Program)

  • 본 연구에서는 학령 초기 아동의 사회적 행동을 향상시키기 위한 사회성 훈련 프로그램을 개발하고, 프로그램 실행 과정에서 나타나는 아동의 사회적 행동을 관찰하여 변화의 과정을 질적 분석을 통해 탐색하였다. 이를 위해 김민정(2008)의 사회적 기술훈련을 수정 보완하여 7명의 초등학교 1학년 아동을 대상으로 8회기의 프로그램을 실시한 후, 참여관찰 노트, 프로그램 진행자의 일지, 보조진행자의 칭찬 노트, 비디오 녹화 자료, 아동의 그림일기 자료들을 전사, 코딩, 주제의 발견 단계를 거쳐 분석하였다. 그 결과, 아동의 사회적 행동과 관련하여 다음과 같은 주제를 도출하였다. 첫째, 관계형성의 시작: (1) 수줍음과 정서적 위축, (2) 자기만의 세계에 몰입, (3) 나누기' 및 '함께하기'의 어려움, (4) 타인과의 부정적 상호작용, (5) 사회적 규칙준수의 어려움. 둘째, 정서 및 의사표현의 변화: 분명하고 직접적인 정서 및 의사표현. 셋째, 친사회성의 변화: (1) 주위에 대한 관심 및 상호작용 증진, (2) 협동 놀이, (3) '나누기' 및 '도움주기'등의 베푸는 행동. 넷째, 사회적 기술의 변화: (1) 사회적 규칙의 인식 및 실천, (2) 사회적 문제 해결하기. 본 연구는 질적 연구를 통해 사회성 훈련 프로그램이 학령 초기 아동의 사회적 기술과 정서표현에 미치는 긍정적 변화를 관찰함으로써 그 효과를 확인하였다.

교육용 로봇 활용 경험이 유아의 로봇 이미지 및 관계 인식에 미치는 영향 연구 (The Influence of Educational Robot Experience on Children's Robot Image and Relationship Recognition)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate how young children recognize the image of robots, and how they understand the relationship between themselves and robots based on school experience. 20 children from kindergarten A had no direct experience with educational robots, whereas 20 children from kindergarten B had experience in using educational robots in their classroom. Total 40 children from age group 5 class participated in this study. We collected data using interview and drawing test. The findings of the study are as follows: First, participating children recognized robots as having both the character of a machine and a human. But children with previous robot experience provided description of robots as a machine-tool. Both groups were not able to explain the structure of robots in details. Second, participating children understood that they can develop a range of social relationships with robots, including simple help to family replacement. There were mixed views on robots among the children with previous experience, but children with no experience described robots as taking the role of peers or family members. These findings could contribute to the development of robots and related programs in the field of early childhood education.

구조적, 기증적 측면에서 본 아동기의 사회적지지 -Social Convoy Model을 토대로- (Convoys of Social Support in Childhood and Early Sdolescence: Structure and Function)

  • The purpose of this study was to explore social support in childhood and early adolescence. The research was based on the social convoy model(Kahn and Antonucci, 1980). The data were collected from questionnaires completed by 656 elementary school children(2nd and 5th grade) and the middle school children(2nd grade) in rural and urban area. The statistical methods adopted for data analyses were frequencies, mean, standard deviation, T-test, One-way ANOVA, Scheffe-test, Two-way ANOVA, and correlation coefficient. Children received more support from parents and friends in convoy function of social support. Convoy size of social support increased with age. Rural children had larger convoy size in the inner circle, and smaller convoy size in the middle circle than urban children did.

유아의 까다로운 식습관과 성장상태 및 식생활과의 관련성 (Association between Picky Eating Behavior, Growth, and Dietary Practices in Preschool Children)

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to assess the eating behavior, growth, and dietary practices of children aged 3~5 years living in the Seoul and Gyeonggi Provinces. Methods: Self-administered questionnaires were completed by 237 mothers of preschool children between April and June 2018. Z-scores for weight-for-age, height-for-age, and BMI-for-age were calculated to determine the children's growth status. Dietary practices were evaluated using the nutrition quotient for Korean preschoolers (NQ-P). Results: In our study, 29.5% of children were in the eating-small-amounts group, 46.8% of children were in the neophobic behavior group, and 61.2% of children were in the refusal-of-specific food group. Specific foods found to have a high frequency of rejection are listed in descending order as follows: shellfish, soy, mushroom, shrimp, vegetables, milk, eggs, yogurt, seaweed, meat, fruits, and fish. The eating-small-amounts group had lower Z-scores for weight-for-age, height-for-age, and BMI-for-age than the non-picky eaters' group. Compared to the non-picky eaters' group, the eating-small-amounts group of picky eaters had lower scores on the moderation and environment items of the NQ-P, the neophobic behavior group had lower scores on the balance and environment items of the NQ-P, and the refusal-of-specific food group had lower scores on the balance, moderation, and environment items of the NQ-P. Conclusions: Children classified with picky eating behavior had lower growth and development, lower diet diversity, less balanced food intake, and had greater difficulty in abstaining from eating unhealthy foods than non-picky eaters. Therefore, a lot of patience and intensive efforts are needed to encourage children to encounter, experience, and accept unfamiliar food. It is more effective to provide eating behavior guidance by gently encouraging children, than by being strict and forceful. Besides, since the eating behavior of children is influenced maximally by the dietary lifestyle at their homes, it is important to ensure that a healthy dietary lifestyle is maintained at home.

유소년영재의 창의적 성향.창의적사고력.다중지능.도덕성에 관한 탐색 (An Exploration on the Creative Disposition, Creative Thinking Power, Multiple Intelligences and Morality of Gifted Children)

  • 영재들은 경험을 통해 많은 재능을 발달시켜나간다. 영재들의 재능 혹은 능력을 최대한 발현시키기 위해서 학령기 초기부터 다양한 환경을 제공하고 탐색할 수 있도록 해야 한다. 또한 영재들이 가진 그들의 관심과 적성 및 흥미를 학령기 초기부터 알 수 있다면 성장하고 발달하며 진로를 탐색하는데 많은 도움이 될 것이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 학령기 초기에 해당하는 유소년영재의 창의적 성향 창의적사고력 다중지능 도덕성의 검사를 통해 유소년 영재의 정의적 인지적 특성을 탐색하여 유소년 영재연구의 기초자료로 제공하고자 하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 관찰추천을 통해 선발된 유소년 영재 90명을 대상으로 하였다. 그 결과 창의적 성향 창의적사고력 다중지능 도덕성의 학년에 따른 결과는 2학년과 3학년의 차이가 많음을 알 수 있었다. 성별에 따른 차이는 창의적 성향 다중지능 도덕성의 하위영역에서 여학생이 2학년에서 높았으며 3학년은 차이가 없는 결과를 보였다. 이러한 연구결과는 유소년 영재들은 남녀 구분 보다 발달적 이해와 영재의 특성을 고려한 질 높은 적절한 학습 환경의 초기노출이 유능한 인재로의 성장에 도움을 주며, 학년이 높을수록 앞으로 자기 목표의식을 분명히 가지고 있음을 보여주는 결과이다.

Combined effect of folate and adiposity on homocysteine in children at three years of age

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Cardiovascular diseases is a major cause of death and is responsible for 23.8% of deaths in Korea. Clinical symptoms manifest in adulthood, but susceptibility begins in utero. Elevated homocysteine levels and adiposity might be linked to a greater risk in children as well as adults. We hypothesized that those who have simultaneous risk for folate and adiposity would be affected with elevated homocysteine levels at 3 years of age. SUBJECTS/METHODS: From the ongoing birth cohort at Ewha Womans University Mok-Dong Hospital, we compared adiposity parameters, serum homocysteine, and folate levels in 238 children (118 boys and 120 girls) at three years of age. The relationship between birth outcome, current weight and body mass index (BMI), postnatal growth, and homocysteine level were assessed using correlation and general linear model. Additionally, we assessed the combined effect between blood folate status and adiposity on current homocysteine levels. RESULTS: Birth characteristics were not correlated with homocysteine. Current weight, BMI, upper-arm circumference, skinfold thickness, waist circumference, and hip circumference were positively correlated with homocysteine at three years of age (P < 0.05). Folate level was negatively correlated with homocysteine at three years of age (P < 0.0001). A relative high anthropometric measure which is compatible with adiposity and low folate level was associated with high homocysteine levels. CONCLUSION: We found a combined effect of adiposity and folate levels with homocysteine levels at three years of age. This implicates the beneficial role of folate supplementation in the high-risk population at an early age.

초등학교 아동의 속담인지수준과 인지속담의 특성 (Elementary School Children's Perception of Proverbs and Characteristic of the Perceived Proverbs)

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the number and type of proverbs known by elementary school children and explain what variables might influence the proverbs' perception. From Seoul and Chonbuk areas, 632 forth, fifth, and sixth graders at elementary school participated. They completed an open-ended questionnaire asking them to list as many proverbs as they know and probing their experience in the use of proverbs with grandparents, parents, and peers. The results showed that the participants listed a total of 185 proverbs, at an average of six proverbs each, and that 63% were a concrete proverb consisting of only concrete and visible nouns. Children reported relatively different ratios of concrete/abstract/complex proverbs according to their grade. Sixth graders perceived more proverbs which included nouns than other graders. Multiple regression analysis revealed that children's grade and using proverbs with peers influenced their proverb perception. These results may suggest a possibility of relationship between figurative language and cognitive development related to thinking of late school-age children.
