Catenary/pantograph system consists of overhead lines which have non-uniform elasticity and pantographs which move at high speed and give force to the lines, therefore happen to be failed in contacts between both from time to time. In this study, as the first step to develop a dynamic simulation program, the general theory is discussed for catenary/pantograph system and appropriate modelling. And comparison is conducted with the references after making a program which referred to the contact force equation algorithm. On this algorithm, the unknown contact force is computed by the equations which was induced as combining catenary and pantograph motion equations expressed in finite difference form. Another simulation program based on the assumed contact forces algorithm was developed. In this algorithm, numerical integraion of both the overhead line and pantograph equations, which without combining, are effected for two assumed values of contact force. The correct contact force is then obtained from these two sets of results by linear interpolation to satisfy the contact condition. Through the comparative review on the outputs from this program, it is verified that this algorithm is reliable.

In multibody dynamic analysis including contact and impact, there are two major analysis methods, i.e., piecewise analysis and continuous analysis. Modeling of contact phenomena is mainly classified with a Kelvin-Voigt model or a model of Hertz contact model. In this paper, a contact module fur AutoDyn7 program was developed and implemented. Both the Kelvin-Voigt model and a model of Hertz contact law were developed. The process of this module is composed of contact distinction and the contact force calculation. Two examples were verified and compared to the commercial program DADS.

Increasing the density magnetic recording of a hard disk drive needs to improve position control of a slider. We have troubles analyzing position of a slider by nonlinear property of pivot ball bearing. Many researches analyze a hard disk drive to change pivot ball bearing part from balls to springs. Pivot ball bearing operates by rotation and movement of balls. This study considers Hertzian contact force when balls contact with outer race to analyze nonlinear movement of a ball bearing. Experiment of this study measures movement of a circular center of a pivot ball bearing. We also verify the simulation results and the experiment results.

A new method of dynamic contact force measurement between a pantograph and a contact wire is proposed in this paper The method does not require design modification of an original pantograph in order to install sensors such as load cells. Contact forces can be expressed as the sum of vertical shear forces at the support points and inertial forces. Using specially-designed strain gage rosettes. vertical shear forces at the supported points can be measured without noise mixing and thermal effects. In order to obtain contact forces from shear forces, 3 inertial force compansation methods are proposed and compared in this paper. By validation process, the new proposed measurement method is verified to be applicable to the on-line current collection test.

A numerical method is presented for the dynamic analysis of spur gears rotating with very high angular speeds. For an efficient computation each gear is assumed to consist of a rotating rigid disk and an elastic tooth having mass, and finite element formulations are used for the equations of motion of the tooth. The geometric constraint is imposed between the rigid disk and the elastic tooth to fix them, and contact condition is imposed between the meshing teeth of the gears. At each iteration of each time step the Lagrange multiplier and contact force are revised by using the constraint error vector, and then the whole equations of motion are time integrated with the given Lagrange multiplier and contact force. For the accurate solution the velocity and acceleration constraints as well as the displacement constraint are satisfied by the monotone reductions of the constraint error vectors. Computing procedures associated with the iterative schemes are explained and numerical simulations are conducted with the spur gears.
Pool boiling experiments are performed within an isolated bubble regime at inclination angles of 0° and 45°. When a bubble grows and departs from the heating surface, the pressure, buoyancy, and surface tension force play important roles. The curvature and base diameter are required to calculate the pressure force, the bubble volume is required to calculate the buoyancy force, and the contact angle and base diameter are required to calculate the surface tension force. The contact angle, base diameter, and volume of the bubbles are evaluated using images captured via a high-speed camera. The surface tension force equation proposed by Fritz is modified with the contact angles obtained in this study. When the bubble grows, the contact angle decreases slowly. However, when the bubble departs, the contact angle rapidly increases owing to necking. At an inclination angle of 0°, the contact angle is calculated as 82.88° at departure. Additionally, the advancing and receding contact angles are calculated as 70.25° and 82.28° at departure, respectively, at an inclination angle of 45°. The dynamic behaviors of bubble growth and departure are discussed with forces by pressure, buoyancy, and surface tension.

This paper presents an estimation procedure for axial displacement in spindle equipped with angular contact ball bearings due to rotational speed. High-speed spindle-bearing system experiences axial displacement due to thermal expansion and rotational speed-dependent characteristics of angular contact ball bearings. This paper deals with the axial displacement caused by the rotational speed-dependent effects such as centrifugal force and gyroscopic moments. To this end, a bearing dynamic model is established that includes all the static and dynamic properties of angular contact ball bearing. An analytical formula to calculate the axial displacement based on contact angles between ball and races is derived to discuss the physics regarding the axial displacement in spindle. The proposed dynamic model is compared with a reference and a commercial program. Numerical examples are presented to show the effects of centrifugal force and gyroscopic moment on the axial displacement. The proposed model is also validated with an experimental result.

The aim of this paper is to analyze the dynamic responses of pantograph-overhead contact line coupled system by using a condition monitoring system. The monitoring items are strain, vertical displacement and acceleration of a contact wire. Both strain and vertical displacement in the contact wire depends on uplift force and train velocity. Measurement of acceleration shows that the passage of the pantograph gives an impact force to a hard point on a contact wire.

Dynamic study of concrete plates under impact load is presented in this article. The main objective of this work is presenting a mathematical model for the concrete plates under the impact load. The concrete plate is reinforced by carbon nanoparticles which the effective material proprieties are obtained by mixture's rule. Impacts are assumed to occur normally over the top layer of the plate and the interaction between the impactor and the structure is simulated using a new equivalent three-degree-of-freedom (TDOF) spring-mass-damper (SMD) model. The structure is assumed viscoelastic based on Kelvin-Voigt model. Based on the classical plate theory (CPT), energy method and Hamilton's principle, the motion equations are derived. Applying DQM, the dynamic deflection and contact force of the structure are calculated numerically so that the effects of mass, velocity and height of the impactor, volume percent of nanoparticles, structural damping and geometrical parameters of structure are shown on the dynamic deflection and contact force. Results show that considering structural damping leads to lower dynamic deflection and contact force. In addition, increasing the volume percent of nanoparticles yields to decreases in the deflection.

In this paper, the dynamic response of the pantograph system that supplies electrical power to a high-speed rail vehicle were investigated. The analysis of the catenary based on the Finite Element Method (FEM) is executed to develop a pantograph fits well in high-speed focused on the dynamic characteristic analysis of the pantograph system. By simulation of the pantograph-catenary system, the static deflection of the catenary, the stiffness variation in contact lines, the dynamic response of the catenary undergoing constant moving load and the contact force analysis were executed. In order to consider the design variables that effects on the dynamic characteristic of the pantograph system performed the dynamic sensitivity analysis. From the pantograph-catenary analysis, the design parameters of a pantograph could be improved. From the results of the sensitivity analysis, a pantograph with improved parameters is suitable for a high-speed rail vehicle from the design-parameter analysis.
