  • The purpose of this paper is to develop an improved three-phase transformer model for ATP and parameter estimation methods that can efficiently utilize the limited available information such as factory test reports. In this paper, improved topologically-correct duality-based models are developed for three-phase autotransformers having shell-form cores. The problem in the implementation of detailed models is the lack of complete and reliable data. Therefore, parameter estimation methods are developed to determine the parameters of a given model in cases where available information is incomplete. The transformer nameplate data is required and relative physical dimensions of the core are estimated. The models include a separate representation of each segment of the core, including hysteresis of the core, ${\lambda}-i$ saturation characteristic and core loss.

  • In this paper, an improved non-isolated 3-level high step-up boost converter is proposed. By using the well known duality principle, the proposed converter is derived from two-phase buck converter. Compared with the traditional boost converter and 3-level boost converter, the proposed converter can obtain very high voltage conversion ratio and the voltage stress of switching devices and diodes is only 1/4 of the output voltage. A 1 kW prototype converter is built and tested to verify performances of the proposed converter.

  • Two standard Bessel sequences in a Hilbert $C^*$-module are approximately duals if the distance (with respect to the norm) between the identity operator on the Hilbert $C^*$-module and the operator constructed by the composition of the synthesis and analysis operators of these Bessel sequences is strictly less than one. In this paper, we introduce (a, m)-approximate duality using the distance between the identity operator and the operator defined by multiplying the Bessel multiplier with symbol m by an element a in the center of the $C^*$-algebra. We show that approximate duals are special cases of (a, m)-approximate duals and we generalize some of the important results obtained for approximate duals to (a, m)-approximate duals. Especially we study perturbations of (a, m)-approximate duals and (a, m)-approximate duals of modular Riesz bases.

  • At SAC 2004, Junod and Vaudenay designed the FOX family based on the Lai-Massey scheme. They noted that it was impossible to find any useful differential characteristic or linear trail after 8 rounds of FOX64 or FOX128. In this paper, we provide the lower bound of differentially active S-boxes in consecutive rounds of the Lai-Massey scheme that has SPS as its F-function, and we propose the necessary conditions for the reachability of the lower bound. We demonstrate that similar results can be obtained with respect to the lower bound of linearly active S-boxes by proving the duality in the Lai-Massey scheme. Finally, we apply these results to FOX64 and FOX128 and prove that it is impossible to find any useful differential characteristics or linear trail after 6 rounds of FOX64. We provide a more precise security bound for FOX128.

  • Versions of Tannaka duality in operator algebraic context have been obtained in [6], [8] etc. Suppose .sigma.is an automorphism of a von Neumann algebra M, on which there is an action .alpha. of a compact group G such that .sigma. vertical bar $M^{\alpha}$=id, where $M^{\tau}$is the fixed point algebra under the action .alpha.. Then it is shown that if there is an action .tau. of a group H which commutes with .alpha., and which is ergodic in the sense that the fixed point algebra $M^{\tau}$ is trivial, then there exists g.mem.G such that .sigma.=.alpha.(g). Recently Evans and Kishimoto ([4]) showed the versions of Tannaka duality in $C^{*}$-settings under some conditions.s.

  • We are concerned with an optimal control problem governed by a Poisson equation in which body force acts like a control parameter. The cost functional to be optimized is taken to represent the error from the desired observation and the cost due to the control. We recast the problem into the mixed formulation to take advantage of the minimax principle for the duality method. The existence of a saddle point for the Lagrangian shall be shown and the optimality system will be derived therein. Finally, to attain an optimal control, we combine the optimality system with an operational technique. By achieving the gradient of the cost functional, a convergent algorithm based on the projected gradient method is established.

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of corporate governance practices such as (board size, board composition, CEO duality and audit committee) on the performance of selected Pakistani firms. Research design, data, and methodology - This study examines corporate governance structure by using the data of 80 non-financial firms listed on Karachi Stock Exchange Pakistan during 2010-2014. Hypotheses of the study were tested by using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Result - The findings indicate that board size and audit committee is positively related to the firm performance (ROA & ROE). In contrast, board composition and CEO duality are negatively related to the firm performance (ROA & ROE). As far as controlling variables is concerned, leverage is negative, whereas firm size is positively related to all measures of performance. Conclusions - Empirical findings concluded that corporate governance practices affect the firm performance. Therefore, it is suggested that managers should understand the governance mechanisms to work more efficiently in the firm.

  • A fixed-strike lookback option is an option whose payoff is determined by the maximum (or minimum) price of the underlying asset within the option's life. Under the Black-Scholes framework, the time-t price of an equity asset follows a geometric Brownian motion. Applying the method of Esscher transforms, this paper will derive explicit pricing formulas for fixed-strike lookback call and put options, respectively. In addition, this paper will show a relationship (duality property) between the pricing formulas of the call and put options. Finally, this paper will derive explicit pricing formulas for the fixed-strike lookback options when their underlying asset pays dividends continuously at a rate proportional to its price.

  • The two typical composite operations of fuzzy relation are the max-min and the min-max composite operations. It is known that the two operations can be completely dual. This paper pays attention to the nature that these two typical operations are completely dual and investigates the correlation between the max-min composite relation equation and the min-max composite relation equation. An important scheme of correlation is in the characteristic of solution sets derived from these two fuzzy relation equations. The paper explains that one of the composite fuzzy relation equations is solvable using the solution method of the other fuzzy relation equation. The above-mentioned duality plays an important role in this solution procedure. Since it is not necessary to build the solution method separately like before, calculation efficiency can be raised. Moreover, the solution for the relation ...
