  • In this study, the numerical analysis of piezocone penetration and dissipation tests has been conducted using the Modified Cam-Clay model, which is generally used in soil mechanics. The Modified Cam-Clay model and related mathematical equations in finite element derivation have been formulated in the Updated Lagrangian reference frame to take the large displacement and finite strain nature of piezocone penetration into consideration. The cone tip resistance, the pore water pressure, and the dissipation curve obtained from the finite element analysis have been compared and investigated with the experimental results from piezocone penetration test performed in Yangsan site. The numerical results showed good agreement with the experimental results; however, the better numerical simulation of the continuous and deep penetration needs further research.

  • Friction-type reinforcing members (FRM) to enhance the resistance to wind loads of a transmission tower through both stiffness strengthening and damping increase are energy dissipation devices that utilize bending deflection of a tower leg. In this paper, the hysteretic behavior of the transmission tower structure with FRMs was experimentally investigated through cyclic loading tests on a half scale substructure model. Firstly, the variation of friction forces and durability of the FRM depending on the type of Friction-inducing materials used in the FRM were examined by performing the cyclic loading tests on the FRM. Secondly, Cyclic loading tests of a half-scale two-dimensional substructure model of a transmission tower with FRMs were conducted. Test results show that the FRM, of which desired maximum friction force is easily regulated by adjusting the amplitude of the torque applied to the bolts, have stable hysteretic behaviors and it is found that there exists the optimum torque depending on a design load by investigating the amount of energy dissipation of the FRMs according to the increase of torque.

  • Based on the authors' previous research, we have conducted more researches on finding out the coefficient of consolidation from Piezocone dissipation test results, especially measured behind the cone tip which is mostly used in Korea, by adopting the optimization technique. By analyzing numerical and real field examples, it can be found that the adopted optimum technique that minimizes the differences between the predicted dissipation curve and the measured one gives consistent and convergent results, irrespective of initial values. Such technique also provides horizontal coefficient of consolidation which is able to simulate real field consolidation behavior more effectively.

  • This analysis demonstrates the effective removal of heat generated from a solar panel's output degradation factor solar cells (the solar panel's output deterioration factor), and solves the problems of oxidation and corrosion in existing metal heat sinks. The heat-dissipating test specimen was prepared using carbon materials; then, its thermal conductivity and its effectiveness in reducing temperatures were studied using heat transfer numerical analysis. As a result, the test specimen of the 30g/㎡ basis weight containing 80% of carbon fiber impregnated with carbon ink showed the highest thermal conductivity 6.96 W/(m K). This is because the surface that directly contacted the solar panel had almost no pores, and the conduction of heat to the panels appeared to be active. In addition, a large surface area was exposed to the atmosphere, which is considered advantageous in heat dissipation. Finally, numerical analysis confirmed the temperature reduction effectiveness of 2.18℃ in a solar panel and 1.08℃ in a solar cell, depending on the application of heat dissipating materials.

  • A variety of diagnostic tests are widely applied in the field in industry to evaluate the condition of high voltage (HV) motor stator insulation. In this paper, the influence of temperature on the stator insulation diagnostic tests such as the insulation resistance, AC current, dissipation factor, and partial discharge measurements are studied and reported. The tests are performed with the HV motor stator winding temperature set between $40^{\circ}C$ to $80^{\circ}C$ in $10^{\circ}C$ intervals. It is shown that the AC current, dissipation factor, and partial discharge magnitude steadily increase with temperature, which suggests that temperature must be taken into account in the interpretation of the test results.

  • A new scan partition architecture to reduce both the average and peak power dissipation during scan testing is proposed for low-power embedded systems. In scan-based testing, due to the extremely high switching activity during the scan shift operation, the power consumption increases considerably. In addition, the reduced correlation between consecutive test patterns may increase the power consumed during the capture cycle. In the proposed architecture, only a subset of scan cells is loaded with test stimulus and captured with test responses by freezing the remaining scan cells according to the spectrum of unspecified bits in the test cubes. To optimize the proposed process, a novel graph-based heuristic to partition the scan chain into several segments and a technique to increase the number of don't cares in the given test set have been developed. Experimental results on large ISCAS89 benchmark circuits show that the proposed technique, compared to the traditional full scan scheme, can reduce both the average switching activities and the average peak switching activities by 92.37% and 41.21%, respectively.

  • Piezocone Penetration Test has been performed in the soft ground over the site preparation area at Inchon International Airport(IIA). With the pore pressure dissipation test results, the changes in the permeability and the coefficient of consolidation in clayey soil were checked and the differences of the undrained shear stength verified the soft ground improvement effect from vane test and piezocone test both before and after the improvement. From the results, thin sand seam was found and this caused a big difference in the coefficient of permeability and consolidation. The coefficient of consolidation was high in the upper marine deposit and relatively low in lower marine deposit. It was found that the reduction of void ratio by preloading resulted in the reduction of coefficient of consolidation after the ground improvement. In addition, there were some variations of undrained shear strength when the number of 15 or 18 was used as the coefficient of piezocone(Nkt). However, when the average value of undrained shear strength calculated using Nkt=10 was applied, the result indicated the similar average value with the result of vane test and the increasing rate of strength( Δsu/Δ$\sigma$≒0.38) also showed the similar distribution.

  • The rate-dependent constitutive model and the rate-independent model were analyzed for comparing with the piezocone penetration test and dissipation test. The mathematical expressions of the rate-dependent constitutive model were introduced, and the predictions using the both models were compared with the experimental results of in-situ field test. The rate-dependent model analysis gave better results than the rate-independent model analysis, that is appreciated since the process of the piezocone penetration and dissipation depends on the strain rate. Therefore, it is recommended the concept of the rate-dependent model for the prediction of soil behaviors using the field penetration test.

  • The purpose of this study is examining thermal dissipation materials for the lighting and radiate efficiency improvement of 8W LED and confirming the properness of the thermal dissipation materials for LED heat sink. Solid Works flow simulation on 8W class COB was done based on the material characteristics of thermal conductive polymer materials. According to the result of simulation, Al had better thermal dissipation performance than PET. Highest temperature was $7.6^{\circ}C$ higher while lowest temperature was $7.8^{\circ}C$ lower. The test on the heat sinks made by the materials, highest temperature was $4.1^{\circ}C$ higher and lowest temperature was $3.9^{\circ}C$ lower. It is possible to confirm that Al heat sink has better thermal dissipation efficiency because it has better dispersion of heat generated at junction temperature and less heat cohesion. The weight of PET heat sink was reduced than Al heat sink by 46.9% by the density difference between Al and PET. In conclusion, thermal dissipation performance of thermal conductive polymer is lower than Al material however, it is possible to lighting heat sink because thermal conductive polymer has better formability, has lower specific weight and enables various design options.

  • Accelerated aging tests were conducted under laboratory conditions on two generator stator bars. Electrical stress is applied in No. 1 model stator bar. Electrical and thermal stresses are applied in No. 2 model stator bar. As aging times increased from 0 to 11460h, dissipation factor($tan{\delta}$) test was performed on No. 1 and No.2 model stator bars. The ${\Delta}tan{\delta}$ of No. 1 and No. 2 stator bars increased with increased in aging time.
