  • As Korea is entering an aging society, the number of elderly people who need new denture or who have problems with their existing denture or adjacent tissue is increasing and it will double in 2018. Therefore, denture clinician system will lessen patients financial burden and introduce market economy to the dental prosthesis field. Therefore, Korea needs to adopt denture clinician system as soon as possible as USA or Canada to increase people s accessibility in quality and quantity. Denture clinician will determine the size and shape of denture after performing oral examination, make impression using various materials, fabricate denture, deliver and adjust completed denture to the patient, repair denture, and carry out financial management in the denture fabricating company or manage human resources. Considering denture clinicians services, American and European education system seems to be close to our system. Therefore, in this study, basic curriculums of several countries in Europe and America were reviewed and curriculum that meets Korean situation was suggested.

  • In this study, we investigated the growth rate on the basis of the sex and the year among the subjects of the licensed dental technicians from the year 1970 to 2003 in Korea. In line with this investigation, this study aims to provide a basic material with regard to the state of dental technician workforce by sex and to suggest a need to reassignment of workforce by sex in accordance with the specific job description. The results of the study are as follows; First, among the licensed dental technicians from 1970 to 2003, males came to 11,589 and females, 5,976, which shows the number of males are 1.9 times higher than that of females. To put the mean sexual composite from 1970 to 2003, male was 82.9% and female 17.1%, indicating the number of males are 4.8 higher than that of females. Second, Of the mean increasing rate until the year 2003 in contrast to 1970, male was about 351 and female was about 181, which shows the number of males increased 1.94 times higher than the females. Comparing to the mean increasing rate of the last year, female came to 25.56% and male 10.73%, which reveals that the females were about 2.4 times higher than the males. In the case of the growth rate, females increased by 1,196,20 times and the males, 26,41. As a result the growth of females are about 45.3 times higher than the males. Third, in the case of the growth rate from 1980 to 2003, females came to 47.85 times and males 9.16, which shows the growth rate of the females was about 5.2 times higher than the males. In contrast to the year 1987, the growth rate until 2003 shows that the females came to 5,13 times and the males 2.70, which indicates the growth rate of females was about 1.9 times higher than males. Fourth, Compared to the year 1990, the growth rate until 2003 shows that females came to 3.40 times and males 2.03 indicating the growth rate of the females was about 1.7 times higher than males. In contrast to the year 2000, the growth rate till 2003 shows that females was 1,34 times and males 1.15 times increased. Fifth, the ratio of sex by the year among the licensed dental technicians is as follows; ratio of male to female in 1970 was 91.2 to 1. In 2003 the ratio came to 2.0 to 1. The number of growth by sex in 1970 came to 24.0 males to 1 female. But the figure was equalled in 2003.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluated the process of model analysis, design, and production for a full mouth prosthetic rehabilitation of function, esthetics, and pronunciation. Methods: This is a case report of class III malocclusion with a severe anterior incisor occlusion and a prosthetic treatment of patient with poor occlusion of posterior teeth. A provisional restoration based on the diagnostic wax-up was applied to the patient. And then functions, esthetics, and occlusal stability were observed during 4 week tracking period. Final restorations were delivered and evaluated based on a systematic analysis, diagnosis and treatment plan. Results: We confirms that this case study obtained the satisfactory results in terms of functions and esthetics. Conclusion : If we can give the patient the continuous evaluation and progress monitoring, we expect the dentist and the dental technician to design the prosthesis successfully.

  • Objectives; The purpose of the present study is to investigate the difference in levels of satisfaction between dental laboratory owners and employed dental technicians in the area of dental laboratory management. Methods; The samples of seventy-one dental laboratory owners and sixty-six employed dental technicians were selected in a blinded and random manner. Data was collected through self-administered questionnaires and analyzed using average values, the t-test and multiple regression. Results; 1) There was no significant difference in the average values of general satisfaction levels related to dental laboratory management between dental lab owners and employees. 2) The average values of satisfaction levels in 11 specific items scored 'above average' among dental lab owners and 'average' among employees. 3) The average values of satisfaction levels in 10 specific items except for 'trust and respect' showed a significant difference between dental lab owners and employees. 4) Important factors which influenced the satisfaction level of dental lab owners were 'trust and respect' and 'improvement of employee's benefits'. In the employees group, 'trust and respect', 'improvement of employee's benefits' and 'technical information support' were important factors. Conclusion; The present study revealed that dental laboratory owners and employees have some gaps between the viewpoints in dental laboratory management. This suggests the necessity to improve management in a transparent and economical way. However this study has some limitation in that the sample size was not massive enough.

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to evaluate the exposure level of hazardous chemical agents for dental technicians in Ulsan. Methods: We measured airborne total dusts and metals such as Nickel, Manganese, Cobalt, and Chromium in 10 dental laboratories by the NIOSH Methods 0500 and 7300, respectively. Methyl methacrylate (MMA), a key ingredient in acrylic resin, was also monitored using passive samplers for long-term sampling and Tenax tubes for short-term sampling. Results: Measured levels of all items were below 10% of the Korean exposure limit except for Nickel. The geometric mean concentration and geometric standard deviation of total dust, Nickel, and MMA were $0.14mg/m^3$ (2.16), $165.3{\mu}g/m^3$ (3.31), and 0.2 ppm (2.5) respectively. Airborne Nickel concentration of two dental laboratories exceeded the exposure limit ($1000{\mu}g/m^3$). The major emission sources of Nickel were metal trimming and casting processes. Conclusions: We found that Nickel, a carcinogen, should be controled most urgently to protect dental technicians.

  • Purpose: The study aims to analyze differences in the satisfaction level of dental technology students regarding in-person and online classes. It also aims to provide fundamental resources for the improvement of major subject class methods that will improve students' self-directed learning abilities, thereby affecting their class satisfaction. Methods: In this study, a self-administered questionnaire was conducted from November 8 to November 30, 2021, for 256 dental technology students. The collected data were analyzed using the IBM SPSS Statistics ver. 21.0 statistical program. Frequency and percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, post-hoc test, correlation analysis, and linear regression analysis were performed to analyze the data. Results: In the self-directed learning abilities, the attitude of the learners was shown to have the highest positive (+) correlation in both in-person and online classes, with a statistically significant effect (p<0.001) on class satisfaction in major subject classes. Moreover, the explanatory power of the model was 52.2% and 39.7%, respectively. Conclusion: We concluded from the study that there is a need for professors to improve teaching methods to increase learners' self-directed learning competence, through problem-based learning, discussion learning, team-based collaborative learning, and mentor-mentee learning, thereby enabling learners to lead classes themselves.
