  • Purpose: The purpose of this in vitro study is to evaluate the clinical acceptability of the marginal discrepancies and internal spacing of multi-layered zirconia prothesis by speed sintering. Methods: The two specimen types come from the same manufacturer but differ in the ingredients in layered zirconia and indication, that is anterior and posterior. The designs of both specimens were full contour crowns, and a total of 20 pieces were repeatedly fabricated, 10 for each group. The specimens were divided into two subgroups (n=10) and sintered with various total times (4 hours, 8 hours) at the maximum temperature (1,530℃). The gap between the two groups of multi-layered zirconia prostheses was measured using a silicone replica technique of 2D analysis method. The independent sample t-test was then used to compare and analyze the data obtained from the two groups (α=0.05). Results: The marginal and internal gap was superior in the 8-hour compared to the 4-hour group, and the results exhibited significant differences (p<0.05). All specimens showed that using the speed sintering schedule does not exceed the clinically permitted value of 120 ㎛, meaning zirconia prothesis using the speed sintering was adequate. Conclusion: The sintering condition is shown to affect the marginal and internal gaps of multi-layered zirconia restoration.

  • Recently, the method of making a dental prothesis is changed in the ICT based digital way. In particular, with the emergence of the CAD/CAM or 3D printing for dental purpose, a computer based digital type is selected gradually more than an analog type. To make an implant abutment, it is possible to apply the conventional technique of making round bars, or the technique using a CNC milling machine. This study tested these two types of the techniques to find which one had more precision and a smaller error when the margin and occlusal surface was made. According to the test, the technique using a CNC milling machine to make an implant abutment had a small error and supported precise processing in terms of the margin fit and the occlusal surface. Therefore, it was found to be useful in making a custom-made prothesis.

  • The aim of this study was to evaluate time serial change of the TPTC(Tightness of Proximal Tooth Contact) between the implant prosthesis and natural tooth at rest state. Thirty-one patients(19 males and 12 females; mean age, 48.2 years) restored with a total 31 single-implant crowns in the left maxillary for 13 single-implant and left mandibular second molars for 18 single-implant crowns, respectively were selected. The TPTC was checked directly after delivery, 1 month after delivery and 6 months after delivery of prothesis at rest state. The TPTC decreased significantly as time goes by both maxilla(p<.01) and mandible(p<.05). The TPTC between the implant prosthesis and natural tooth decreased as time goes by after fixed implant prothesis placement.

  • Traditionally, tooth restoration has been carried out by replicating teeth using plaster-based materials. However, recent technological advances have simplified the production process through the introduction of computer-aided design(CAD) systems. Nevertheless, dental restoration varies among individuals, and the skill level of dental technicians significantly influences the accuracy of the manufacturing process. To address this challenge, this paper proposes an approach to designing personalized tooth restorations using Generative Adversarial Network(GAN), a widely adopted technique in computer vision. The primary objective of this model is to create customized dental prosthesis for each patient by utilizing 3D data of the specific teeth to be treated and their corresponding opposite tooth. To achieve this, the 3D dental data is converted into a depth map format and used as input data for the GAN model. The proposed model leverages the network architecture of Pixel2Style2Pixel, which has demonstrated superior performance compared to existing models for image conversion and dental prosthesis generation. Furthermore, this approach holds promising potential for future advancements in dental and implant production.

  • With regard to the manufacture of dental prosthesis, all the dental mechanism is of vital significance at the aspect of activating its function by fixing the prosthesis to Patient's oral cavity. However, if there we will take our immediate action without the discretion about its process none the less for the importance of dental mechanism, then we might have a serious problem. Accordingly, there need to pay attention to the dilatability makes up for the shrinkage state occurring by the feature of metal materials and manufacturing process which appeared in the process of dental mechanism, which eventually is expected to playa very important role in casting a dental prosthesis appropriate to one's oral tissue. This study was designed to take into account of the effects on margin consistency of prosthesis according to the continued time of casting-ring in the course of the casting of dental alloy. For this, the researcher made an experiment on the casting of dental alloy, its dilatability, and the change of phase. The results of this study were as follows: First, the researcher could see that the sample which was cast under the condition of $650^{\circ}C/20$ Minutes(the continued time) was far superior to others at the aspect of margin consistency. Second, according to the measurement of expansion coefficient by Dilatometer, the researcher perceived the fact that the expansion-coefficient showed a maximum of $37.1{\mu}m$ considering the sample's length which was cast with ordinary temperature under the condition of $650^{\circ}C/20$ Minutes. Third, from the result of X-ray diffraction under the condition of $650^{\circ}C/20$ Minutes(the continued time), the researcher could find that there's no difference between the change of phase and its intensity. As mentioned above, the researcher could ascertain the fact that its contraction don't give rise to the change of phase.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to ascertain the need to reform curriculums for digital experts in a way that include the practical and educational aspects of dental labs by determining why educational reforms are needed to comply with changes in dental technology business that are brought by the applications of digital scanning and what changes are being actually brought by the use of CAD/CAM. Methods: This study analyzed the need of education and practice in relation to CAD/CAM by using the independent sample t-test and One-way ANOVA. in accordance with the participants demographic characteristics and job-related variables and factors related to CAD/CAM, and provided only some of the analysis results that were found statistically significant. Concerning the need of education and practice in relation to CAD/CAM, the study also used the independent sample t-test to measure difference in the perception of that need within each of the three groups, or those of job performance, job efficiency and knowledge gain at the signficance level of ${\alpha}=.05$. Results: Dental technologists surveyed here were perceiving that the use of CAD/CAM would bring changes in their job performance, job efficiency and knowledge gain. They were expecting that the biggest changes would be made in work climate and product quality as sub-areas of job performance. However, they said that in terms of job efficiency, the use of CAD/CAM would change job contribution, job satisfaction and job efficiency, but not lead to staffing. These results suggest that more special programs for CAD/CAM education are needed to bring up CAD/CAM experts who are more specialized. Conclusion: Among 13 skills related to CAD/CAM, what is most needed to be educated to dental technologists was "molding the occlusal surface" (M=4.19), followed by "designing the 3-D work" (M=4.17), "final shape modification" (M=4.16), "molding the border" (M=4.15) and "checking the fit of prothesis" (M=4.14) in order.
