  • We demonstrate 3-Gb/s wireless link using a 60-GHz receiver front-end fabricated in $0.25-{\mu}m$ SiGe:C bipolar complementary metal oxide semiconductor (BiCMOS) and a mixed-mode quadrature phase-shift keying (QPSK) demodulator fabricated in 60-nm CMOS. The 60-GHz receiver consists of a low-noise amplifier and a down-conversion mixer. It has the peak conversion gain of 16 dB at 62 GHz and the 3-dB intermediate-frequency bandwidth of 6 GHz. The demodulator using 1-bit sampling scheme can demodulate up to 4.8-Gb/s QPSK signals. We achieve successful transmission of 3-Gb/s data in 60 GHz through 2-m wireless link.

  • In digital radio broadcasting systems, long delays are incurred in service start time when tuning to a particular frequency because several synchronization steps, such as symbol timing synchronization, frame synchronization, and carrier frequency offset and sampling frequency offset compensation are necessary. Therefore, the operation of the synchronization blocks causes delays ranging from several hundred milliseconds to a few seconds until the start of the radio service after frequency tuning. Furthermore, if spectrum inversed signals are transmitted in digital radio broadcasting systems, the receivers are unable to decode them, even though most receivers can demodulate the spectral inversed signals in analog radio broadcasting systems. Accordingly, fast synchronization techniques and a method for spectral inversion detection are required in digital radio broadcasting systems that are to replace the analog radio systems. This paper presents a joint detection method of frame, integer carrier frequency offset, and spectrum inversion for DRM Plus digital broadcasting systems. The proposed scheme can detect the frame and determine whether the signal is normal or spectral inversed without any carrier frequency offset and sampling frequency offset compensation, enabling fast frame synchronization. The proposed method shows outstanding performance in environments where symbol timing offsets and sampling frequency offsets exist.

  • A bi-directional and multi-channel wireless telemetry capsule, 11mm in diameter, is presented that can transmit video images from inside the human body and receive a control signal from an external control unit. The proposed telemetry capsule includes transmitting and receiving antennas, a demodulator, decoder, four LEDs, and CMOS image sensor, along with their driving circuits. The receiver demodulates the received signal radiated from the external control unit. Next, the decoder receives the stream of control signals and interprets five of the binary digits as an address code. Thereafter, the remaining signal is interpreted as four bits of binary data. Consequently, the proposed telemetry module can demodulate external signals so as to control the behavior of the camera and four LEDs during the transmission of video images. The proposed telemetry capsule can simultaneously transmit a video signal and receive a control signal determining the behavior of the capsule itself. As a result, the total power consumption of the telemetry capsule can be reduced by turning off the camera power during dead time and separately controlling the LEDs for proper illumination of the intestine.

  • A mixed-mode QPSK demodulator for 60-GHz wireless personal area network application is demonstrated. In this work, mixed-mode QPKS demodulation scheme achieving low power consumption and small area is employed. The prototype chip realized by 60-nm CMOS Logic process can demodulate up to 4.8-Gb/s QPSK signals at 4.8-GHz carrier frequency. At this carrier frequency, the demodulator core consumes 54 mW from 1.2-V power supply while the chip area is $150{\times}150{\mu}m^2$. Using the fabricated chip, transmission and demodulation of 1.7-GSymbol/s QPSK signal in 60-GHz link is demonstrated.

  • We proposed a hopping phase estimator to demodulate the received signals without any hopping information in frequency hopping spread spectrum systems. The demodulation process in this paper is as follows: hopped frequency tracking is accomplished by choosing a frequency component with maximum amplitude after taking discrete Fourier transform and a hopping frequency estimator which estimates the phase generated by hopped frequency is established through difference product and down-sampling. We obtained the probability density function and variance performance of the proposed estimator and confirmed that the analysis and the simulation results were agreed with each other.

  • In relay networks, relay nodes amplify or demodulate/remodulate the received signal from the transmitter, and transmit that signal to the receiver. The received signals from several relays are combined and used for demodulation at the receiver, which enhances the performance of the overall system. Partially differential modulation scheme which uses coherent modulation at the relay and non-coherent modulation scheme at the receiver is adopted for modulation scheme. We analyze the performance of systems depending on various energy allocations of source and relays given the total energy in relay networks.

  • In this study, contains Design and Simulation data for Tone filter applied to the KSLV-1 FTS Receiver. Received Signal contains unwanted Noise and Jitter which should be eliminated by any kind of filters. In the design of KSLV-1 FTS Receiver, two different type of filters are used. One is Low-Pass Filter for rejecting high order harmonics and another is Tone Filter for sorting pure original signal in the mixed demodulate Signals. For the purpose of this development, various kinds of filter are studied and simulated for finding adequate type of filter.

  • In this paper, we suggest a new 4-port receiver instead of 6-port schematic for the demodulation of BPSK. The designed receiver is implemented by a ring-hybrid balun, two power detectors, and a comparator For the validity of the proposed receiver, we demonstrate a BPSK modulator/demodulator at 2.45 GHz. The measured data shows that the proposed 4-port receiver can successfully demodulate a data rate of 1 Mbps.

  • To demodulate the received OFDM signal, symbol timing detection which finds symbol start in the received sample stream is required in the system initialization. In this paper, we analyze the effect of symbol timing offset and propose a new symbol timing detection algorithm, which is using the guard interval. The proposed algorithm requires low computational process and small memory size, and dose not be affected by frequency offset and phase offset. In addition, We apply this algorithm to European digital TV broadcasting model based on OFDM to evaluate the performance in AWGN and multipath fading channel by the computer simulation.
