TiAlN thin films were prepared by a multi target r.f magnetron sputtering system under different conditions. We have investigated the resistivity and T.C.R. (Temperature Coefficient of Resistance) characteristics of TiAlN films deposited on $Al_2O_3$ and glass substrates by sputtering in an $Ar:N_2$ gas mixture. We used Al and Ti metal as Target Material and $Ar:N_2$ gas as working gas. We varied the partial pressure ratio of $N_2/Ar$ from 0.2/7 to 1.0/6.2 (SCCM). And the R.F power of Ti and Al Target also were varied as 160/240, 200/200 and 240/160(W). In this experiment, we can get the precision thin film resistor with a very low T.C.R. (Temperature Coefficient of Resistance) below 25 ppm ${\Omega}/^{\circ}C$.

This study reports a fabrication of $TiO_2$ on the surface of dental implants by pulsed d.c. magnetron sputtering from a Ti target. A systematic investigation on the microstructure and mechanical properties of $TiO_2$ films was carried out with the variation of $O_2$ contents and substrate temperatures. The effects of deposition parameters on the fabricated structures were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique and field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM). Hydrophilic properties were evaluated by measuring water contact angles on the film surface. With increasing $O_2$ contents up to 40%, surface roughness of $TiO_2$ film increased while relatively smooth surface was obtained with 50% $O_2$ contents. Surface roughness and adhesion strength both increased as substrate temperature increased up to $200^{\circ}C$. From these results, hydrophilic and adhesive properties of the present $TiO_2$ films synthesized with 40% $O_2$ at $200^{\circ}C$ are regarded to be suitable for bio-compatible applications.

Transparent and highly oriented KLN thin films have been grown by an rf- magnetron sputtering deposition method. A homogeneous and stable KLN target was prepared by calcine and sintering process. For KLN target, stoichiometry and composition excess with K of 30% and 60%, and Li of 15% and 30% respectively, was prepared. The targets were sintered at low temperature to prevent vaporization of K and Li. KLN thin films were fabricated by rf-magnetron sputtering method using those targets. In this experiment, using the target of composition excessed with K of 60% and Li of 30%, single phase KLN thin film was produced. KLN thin film has excellent crystallinity and highly c-axis oriented on Corning 1737 substrate. Transmittance of thin film in visible range was 90%, absorption edge is 333 nm and refractive index at 632.8 nm was 1.93.

TiAlN films were deposited on WC-5Co substrates with different buffer layers by D.C. magnetron sputtering. The films were evaluated by microstructural observations and measuring of preferred orientation, hardness value, and adhesion force. As a process variable, various buffer layers were used such as TiAlN single layer, TiAlN/TiAl, TiAlN/TiN and TiAlN/CrN. TiAlN coating layer showed columnar structures which grew up at a right angle to the substrates. The thickness of the TiAlN coating layer was about $1.8{\mu}m$, which was formed for 200 minutes at $300^{\circ}$. XRD analysis showed that the preferred orientation of TiAlN layer with TiN buffer layer was (111) and (200), and the specimens of TiAlN/TiAl, TiAlN/CrN, TiAlN single layer have preferred orientation of (111), respectively. TiAlN single layer and TiAlN/TiAl showed good adhesion properties, showing an over 80N adhesion force, while TiAlN/TiN film showed approximately 13N and the TiAlN/CrN was the worst case, in which the layer was destroyed because of high internal residual stress. The value of micro vickers hardness of the TiAlN single layer, TiAlN/TiAl and TiAlN/TiN layers were 2711, 2548 and 2461 Hv, respectively.
ITO monolayer and ITO/Ag/ITO multilayer thin films are prepared by D.C. magnetron sputtering method. Ag layer was inserted for applying ITO to a flexible substrate at low temperature. Carrier concentration and carrier mobility of ITO and ITO/Ag/ITO thin films were measured, the transmittance of them also was done. The amorphous phase was confirmed to be combined in addition to (400) and (440) peaks from XRD result of ITO thin film. As the substrate temperature increased, the preferred orientation of (400) appeared. From the result of application of Ag layer at room temperature, the growth of columnar structure was inhibited, and the amorphous phase formed mostly. The ITO/Ag/ITO thin film represented the transmittance of above 80% when the thickness of Ag layer was 50 ${\AA}$, and the concentration of carrier increased up to above 10 times than that of ITO thin film. Finally, since very low resistance of 3.9${\Omega}/{\square}$ was observed, the effective application of low temperature process is expected to be possible for ITO thin film.

Silver films have been of considerable interest for years due to their better performance relative to other metal films for engineering applications. A series of multi-layer silver coatings with different thickness (i.e. 0.3 um to 1.5 um) were prepared on Aluminium substrate containing copper undercoat by direct current (DC) magnetron sputtering method. For the comparative purpose, similar thickness silver coatings were prepared by electrolytic deposition method. Microstructural, morphological, and mechanical characteristics of the silver coatings were evaluated by means of scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Surface roughness test, microhardness test and nano-scratch test. From the results, it has been elucidated that the silver films prepared by DC magnetron sputtering method has superior properties in comparison to the wet coating method. On the other hand, DC magnetron sputtering method is relatively easier, faster, eco-friendly and more productive than the electrolytic deposition method that uses several kinds of hazardous chemicals for bath formulation. Therefore, a New Work Item Proposal (NWIP) for the test methods standardization of DC magnetron sputtered silver coatings has recently been proposed via KATS, Korea and a NP ballot is being progressed within a technical committee "ISO/TC107-metallic and other inorganic coating".

Recently, low temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) technology is widely used in sensors, actuators and microsystems fields because of its very good electrical and mechanical properties, high reliability and stability as well as possibility of making 3D micro structures. In this study, we investigated the effects of sputtering gas ratio and annealing temperature on the crystal structure of $Pb(ZrTi)O_3$ (PZT) thin films deposited on LTCC substrate. The LTCC substrate with thickness of $400\;{\mu}m$ were fabricated by laminating 4 green tapes which consist of alumina and glass particle in an organic binder. The PZT thin films were deposited on Pt / Ti / LTCC substrates by RF magnetron sputtering method. The results showed that the crystallization of the films were enhanced as increasing $O_2$ mixing ratio. At about 25% $O_2$ mixing ratio, was well crystallized in the perovskite structure. PZT thin films was annealed at various temperatures. When the annealing temperature is lower, the PZT thin films become a phyrochlore phase. However, when the annealing temperature is higher than $600^{\circ}C$, the PZT thin films become a perovskite phase. At the annealing temperature of $700^{\circ}C$, perovskite PZT thin films with good quality structure was obtained.
$SrTiO_3$ thin films were deposited on Pt/Ti/$SiO_2$/Si substrates at low temperatures below $300^{\circ}C$ by r.f. magnetron sputtering. The materials and the electrical properties of the deposited films were investigated with controlling deposition parameters such as substrate temperature(T_s) and positive substrate d.c. bias voltage. Stoichiometric $SrTiO_3$ films were obtained at Ts of $300^{\circ}C$, but Sr content in the film was less than that of a target when Ts was lower than $300^{\circ}C$, resulting in poor electrical properties. By introducing a positive substrate d.c. bias during deposition, the crystallinity and the dielectric properties of the films were markedly improved. 400 nm thick $SrTiO_3$, films deposited at $300^{\circ}C$ with a positive substrate d.c. bias of 20V showed a columnar structure with <211> crystallographic direction and a dielectric constant of 98.

High-quality Al-N doped p-type ZnO thin films were deposited on Si and buffer layer/Si by DC magnetron sputtering in a mixture of $N_2$ and $O_2$ gas. The target was ceramic ZnO mixed with $Al_2O_3$ (2 wt%). The p-type ZnO thin films showed a carrier concentration in the range of $1.5{\times}10^{15}{\sim}2.93{\times}10^{17}\;cm^{-3}$, resistivity in the range of 131.2${\sim}$2.864 ${\Omega}cm$, mobility in the range of 3.99${\sim}$31.6 $cm^2V^{-1}s^{-l}$, respectively. It was easier to dope p-type ZnO films on Si substrates than on buffer layer/Si. The film grown on Si showed the highest quality of photoluminescence (PL) characteristics. The Al donor energy level depth $(E_d)$ of Al-N codoped ZnO films was reduced to about 50 meV, and the N acceptor energy level depth $(E_a)$ was reduced to 63 meV.
Copper-indium diselenide, $CuInSe_2$, thin films have been fabricated by selenizing Cu/In stacked layers with different sputtered Cu/(Cu+ln) mole ratios at 450.deg. C for 1hr on alumina substrates. The selenium source was selenium vapor. Microstructure, crystallization, and composition of the selenized $CuInSe_2$ films were examined by using scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffraction, Auger electron spectroscopy, and secondary ion mass spectrometry. Electrical resistivity and hall effects were also measured to investigate the electrical properties. As the sputtered Cu/(Cu+In) mole ratio of In/Cu layer increased, the amounts of void and CuSe phase in the selenized films increased but the composition of $CuInSe_2$ phase was the same regardless of the sputtered mole ratio. Comparing the electrical properties of $CuInSe_2$ thin film before and after the chemical etching, it was seen that the electrical resistivity, carrier concentration, and carrier mobility of the selenized films were affected by the amount of CuSe phase which seemed to increase primarily the hole concentration of the selenized films.
