Online Users' Cynical Attitudes towards Privacy Protection: Examining Privacy Cynicism

  • As the complexity of managing online personal information is increasing and data breach incidents frequently occur, online users feel a loss of control over their privacy. Such a situation leads to their cynical attitudes towards privacy protection, called privacy cynicism. This study aims to examine the role of privacy cynicism in online users' privacy behaviors. Data were gathered from a survey that 281 people participated in and were analyzed with covariance-based structural equation modeling. The findings of this study reveal that privacy cynicism has not only a direct influence on disclosure intention but also moderates an effect of privacy concerns on the intention. The analytical results also indicate that there is a nonlinear effect of privacy cynicism on the outcome variable. This study developed the concept of privacy cynicism—a phenomenon that significantly affects online privacy behavior but has been rarely examined. The study is an initial research into the nature and implications of privacy cynicism and furthermore clarified its role by the nonlinear relationship between privacy cynicism and the willingness to disclose personal information.

Injustice Perception and Work Alienation: Exploring the Mediating Role of Employee's Cynicism in Healthcare Sector

  • The aim of this study is to explore the effect of injustice perception on work alienation and the mediating role played by the employee's cynicism between injustice perception and work alienation in the healthcare sector in Oman. By utilizing a simple random sampling technique, data were collected using a questionnaire consisting of 306 nurses working in private healthcare providing organizations in Oman. The collected data was then analyzed using AMOS program through the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The results of study show that the levels of perception of injustice and cynicism of nurses in the private healthcare centers were low, while the work alienation was found to be at moderate level in these healthcare organizations. The findings of the empirical study reveal that injustice perception and employee's cynicism significantly affect work alienation. The impact of injustice perception in creating employee's cynicism was also observed. The hypothesis that the mediating role played by employee's cynicism in injustice perception and work alienation relationship was partially supported. Moreover, injustice perception and cynicism directly affect work alienation, therefore, these hospitals should consider organizational policies and procedures to achieve equality and justice among nursing personnel, and to eliminate the factors that cause cynicism and work alienation.

마이데이터 이용자의 프라이버시 태도와 보호의도에 관한 연구: 프라이버시 냉소주의의 영향 (A Study on Privacy Attitude and Protection Intent of MyData Users: The Effect of Privacy cynicism)

  • 이 연구는 마이데이터 이용자의 프라이버시 태도와 보호의도에 대한 프라이버시 냉소주의 4개 차원(불신, 불확실성, 무기력, 체념)의 영향 관계를 분석했다. 연구결과, 마이데이터 이용자의 인터넷 활용능력은 프라이버시 냉소주의 차원 중 '체념'에 통계적으로 유의미하게 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 프라이버시 위험은 프라이버시 냉소주의 차원 중 마이데이터 사업자에 대한 '불신', 프라이버시 통제에 대한 '불확실성' 및 '무기력'에 긍정적 영향을 준다. 셋째, 프라이버시 염려는 프라이버시 냉소주의 차원인 '불신', '불확실성'에 통계적으로 유의미한 긍정적 영향, '체념'은 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석됐다. 넷째, 프라이버시 냉소주의 차원의 '체념'은 프라이버시 보호의도에 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 종합하면, 마이데이터 이용자의 인터넷 활용능력은 프라이버시 냉소주의를 완화할 수 있는 변인이나, 프라이버시 위험과 프라이버시 염려는 프라이버시 냉소주의를 강화하는 변인으로 나타났다. 프라이버시 냉소주의 중 '체념'은 프라이버시 염려를 상쇄시키고, 프라이버시 보호의도를 낮춘다. 이는 프라이버시 노출에 대한 위험 또는 염려의 상황에서 프라이버시 냉소주의가 이러한 상황을 벗어나게 하는 인지적 메커니즘으로 기능한다는 기존 연구 결과들을 뒷받침한다.

조직공정성과 조직냉소주의 및 조직몰입의 관계 (The Relation of Organizational Justice to Organizational Cynicism and Organizational Commitment)

  • The purpose of the present is to investigate the relation of organizational cynicism to organizational justice and organizational commitment. Questionnaire data were collected from 185 employees. To test the hypotheses, structural equation model was employed. The model showed adequate fit to the data. Results showed that organizational justice(distributive justice and procedural justice) were negatively related to organizational cynicism. Also, results supported the hypothesized relationship between organizational cynicism and organizational commitment(affective and continuance commitment). Organizational cynicism negatively affected organizational commitment. Implications are discussed and future research directions are outlined.

보육교사의 내현적 자기애적 성향과 원장의 서번트 리더십이 조직냉소주의에 미치는 영향 (The Influence of Covert Narcissism and Supervisors' Servant Leadership on Childcare Center Teachers' Organizational Cynicism)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of teachers' covert narcissism and supervisors' servant leadership on teachers' organizational cynicism. The subjects were 279 teachers employed in childcare centers in K Province. Data was collected by questionnaires, which required self-report by teachers. The collected data were analyzed by mean, standard deviation, Pearson's correlation, hierarchial regression, by using SPSS Win 19.0. The results of our study was as follows. First, main effects of teachers' covert narcissism and supervisors' servant leadership on teachers' organizational cynicism was observed. teachers' covert narcissism was positively associated with teachers' organizational cynicism. and supervisors' servant leadership was negatively associated with teachers' organizational cynicism. Second, supervisors' servant leadership was a better predictor of teachers' organizational cynicism than teachers' covert narcissism. Finally, interaction effects of teachers' covert narcissism and supervisors' servant leadership on teachers' organizational cynicism was not observed.

2012 국회의원 총선에서 나타난 미디어 이용, 정치 냉소주의, 투표 참여 간의 관계에 관한 연구 (The Relationship among Media use, Political cynicism, Voting Behavior in 2012 General Elections)

  • 본 연구는 한국적 정치 상황에서 미디어 이용이 정치 냉소주의에 미치는 영향, 정치 냉소주의와 정치관여 변수들과의 관계, 그리고 정치 냉소주의가 투표참여에 미치는 효과를 알아보고자 하였다. 연구결과, 우리나라에서 정치 냉소주의는 투표율이 가장 낮은 20대 연령층이 아닌 40대 연령층에서 가장 높고, 교육수준이 높은 사람들에게서 높았다. 또한 인터넷 이용은 정치 냉소주의를 일으키거나 강화시켜주는 중요한 요인으로 작용하지만 TV와 신문은 정치 냉소주의와 별다른 관계가 없었다. 정치 효능감이 정치 냉소주의를 떨어뜨리는 가장 강력한 요인일 뿐만 아니라 미디어 보도 부정주의를 감소시킴과 동시에 투표의향을 높여주는 등 매우 중요한 정치심리요인임이 다시 한 번 확인되었다. 정치관심도는 정치 냉소주의를 높여주는 효과를 일으킬 뿐만 아니라 정치 효능감을 포함한 어떠한 요인보다도 투표참여에 훨씬 강력한 영향을 미치고 있다. 그러나 정치 냉소주의는 투표참여와 별다른 관계가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 결국 한국 정치 상황에서 정치 냉소주의를 반드시 부정적으로만 인식해서는 안 되며, 앞으로 정치 냉소주의를 "정치인과 정치제도에 대해서는 비판적이지만 정치에 대한 관심을 잃지 않고 정치참여를 결코 거부하지 않는 하나의 정치심리요인"으로 새롭게 해석할 필요가 있다 하겠다.

어린이집 원장의 서번트 리더십과 보육교사의 조직시민행동 간의 경로모형 검증: 보육교사의 조직몰입과 조직냉소주의를 중심으로 (The verification of path model on director's servant leadership and childcare center teacher's organizational citizenship behavior: Focused on teacher's organizational committment and cynicism)

  • The study aimed to define the paths through which director's servant leadership, childcare center teacher's organizational committment and organizational cynicism affected teacher's organizational citizenship behavior and determined their effects. The subjects for this study were 545 teachers of the childcare centers located in Daegu and Kyoungbuk district. The collected data were analyzed with SPSS 19.0 and AMOS 8.0. The results showed 1) The director's servant leadership, teacher's organizational committment and organizational cynicism influenced directly on organizational citizenship behavior. 2) The director's servant leadership influenced directly on teacher's organizational committment and organizational cynicism. 3) The director's servant leadership influenced indirectly on organizational citizenship behavior by teacher's organizational committment and organizational cynicism.

Questionnaire data were collected from 265 employees. To test the hypotheses, structural equation model was employed. The model showed adequate fit to the data. Results showed that organizational justice(distributive justice and procedural justice) were negatively related to organizational cynicism. Also, results supported the hypothesized relationship between organizational cynicism and organizational citizenship behavior(OCBIs and OCBOs). And organizational justice indirectly influences OCB through organizational cynicism as expected. Implications are discussed and future research directions are outlined.

  • Objectives: This study analyzed the influence of organizational cynicism among ward sisters on their organizational citizenship behavior and how coaching leadership moderated it. Methods: Survey data from 500 ward sisters at 10 general hospitals were collected, and the data of 483 ward sisters were used. The IBM SPSS AMOS Ver. 21.0 and PROCESS macro software were used for conducting regression analysis, validity analysis, and regulation effect analysis. Results: Organizational cynicism was negatively related to organizational citizenship behavior. Coaching leadership strengthened the negative influence of organizational cynicism on organizational citizenship behavior. Conclusion: This study empirically identified that organizational cynicism is an important predisposing factor affecting the organizational citizenship behavior of ward sisters. In order for coaching leadership to exert a positive influence on organizational citizenship behaviors, addressing ward nurses' degree of organizational cynicism and psychological status should be prioritized.

수퍼리더십이 조직냉소주의와 조직시민행동에 미치는 영향 (The Impact of Superleadership on Organizational Cynicism and Organizational Citizenship Behavior)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of superleadership on organizational cynicism and organizational citizenship behavior. On the basis of theoretical linkages between the constructs, a conceptual model and hypotheses were established. The sample included 400 employees. Structural equation modeling(SEM) was used to employed the hypothesized relationships in the conceptual model. Results indicated that (a)superleadership has a negative impact organizational cynicism; (b)organizational cynicism has a negative impact organizational citizenship behavior; (c)superleadership has a positive impact organizational citizenship behavior. Implications for applying superleadership to organizational cynicism and organizational citizenship behavior were discussed and future research directions were outlined.
