  • 컴퓨터그래픽스에서 다루어지는 3차원 물체들에 대한 곡률과 같은 기하학적 특성들은 메쉬의 모양을 해석함에 있어 매우 중요한 역할을 한다. 부드러운 곡면에서 정의되는 곡률은 메쉬와 같은 이산적 형태에서는 수학적으로 정의할 수 없다. 그러므로 이러한 이산곡률을 어떻게 정의하느냐에 따라 기하학적 연산들의 결과는 많은 영향을 받는다. 본 논문에서는 기존의 곡률 계산법에서 사용하고 있는 단면곡률 계산법의 오류를 지적하고 이에 대한 해결책으로 베이지어 곡선을 이용한 포물선-기반 이산 곡률 계산법을 제시한다. 제안된 방법을 통하면 보다 뾰족한 형태의 정점과 완만한 형태의 정점을 구분할 수 있어서 메쉬 간략화와 같은 기하학적 연산에 쉽게 적용가능하다.

Failure life estimation of sharp-notched circular tubes with different notch depths under cyclic bending

  • In this paper, the response and failure of sharp-notched 6061-T6 aluminum alloy circular tubes with five different notch depths of 0.4, 0.8, 1.2, 1.6 and 2.0 mm subjected to cyclic bending were experimentally and theoretically investigated. The experimental moment-curvature relationship exhibits an almost steady loop from the beginning of the first cycle. And, the notch depth has almost no influence on its relationship. However, the ovalization-curvature relationship exhibits a symmetrical, increasing, and ratcheting behavior as the number of cycles increases. In addition, a higher notch depth of a tube leads to a more severe unsymmetrical trend of the ovalization-curvature relationship. Focusing on the aforementioned relationships, the finite element software ANSYS was used to continue the related theoretical simulation. Furthermore, the five groups of tubes tested have different notch depths, from which five unparallel straight lines can be observed from the relationship between the controlled curvature and the number of cycles required to produce failure in the log-log scale. Finally, a failure model was proposed to simulate the aforementioned relationship. Through comparison with the experimental data, the proposed model can properly simulate the experimental data.

  • A scalar metric for the assessment of hull surface producibility was known to be useful in estimating the complexity of a hull form of ships or large offshore structures by looking at their shape. However, it could not serve as a comprehensive measuring tool due to its lack of important components of the hull form such as longitudinals, stiffeners, and web frames attached to the hull surface. To have a complete metric for cost estimation, these structural members must be included. In this paper, major inner structural members are considered by measuring the complexity of their geometric shape. The final scalar metric thus consists of the classes containing inner members with various curvature magnitudes as well as the classes containing curved plates with single and double curvature distribution. Those two distinct metrics are merged into a complete scalar metric that accounts for the total cost estimation of complex structural bodies.

곡선 조각의 군집화에 의한 둥근 물체의 효과적인 인식 (An efficient recognition of round objects using the curve segment grouping)

  • Based on the curve segment grouping, an efficient recognition of round objects form partially occuluded round boundaries is proposed. Curve segments are extracted from an image using a criterion based on the intra-segment curvature and local contrast. During the curve segment extraction the boundaries of pratially occluding and occuluded objects are segmented to different curve segments. The extracted segments of constant intra-segment curvature are grouped to different curve segments. The extracted segments of constant intra-segment curvature are grouped nto a round boundary by the proposed grouping algorithm using inter-segment curvature which gives the relatinships among the curve segments of the same round boundary. The 1st and the 2nd order moments are used for the parameter estimation of the best fitted ellipse with round boundary, and then recognition is perfomed based on the estimated parameters. The proposed scheme processes in segment unit and is more efficient in computational complexity and memory requirements those that of the conventional scheme which processed in pixel units. Experimental results show that the proposed technique is very efficient in recognizing the round object sfrom the real images with apples and pumpkins.

하천 만곡률과 홍수량에 따른 수면경사도 산정 (Estimation of the Water Surface Slope by the Flood Discharge with River Bend Curvature)

  • In this research, we made a one and two-dimensional analysis of numerical data collected from the bend curvature of a bended river section. According to the result from the numerical analysis, the inflow & output angle caused a water level deviation which increased with an increase of the flood discharge. From the water level deviation of our two-dimensional numerical model, we obtained the maximum slope of 6,67% when the inflow and output angle was 105 degrees and the flood discharge was 500 CMS. As for the right side, the differences with the one-dimensional numerical model were reduced when the angle was more than $90^{\circ}$. As for the left side the differences were reduced when the angle was more than $105^{\circ}$. For a river with more than 90 degrees bend curvature, a hydraulic experiment would be more appropriate than a numerical analysis.

  • 패턴 인식 연구 분야에서 많은 특징점 추출 알고리즘들이 개발되었지만, 태블릿 PC나 LCD 태블릿과 같은 펜-입력 디스플레이를 위한 인터액티브 애플리케이션들은 기존과는 다른 요구사항을 가진다. 사용자 마다 다른 다양한 스케치 스타일의 대해서 세그멘테이션 및 특징점 추출을 그림을 그리는 동안 실시간에 안정적으로 수행하여야 한다. 본 논문은 사용자로부터 자유로이 입력된 펜 입력을 분할(segmentation)하기 위해 필수적인 곡률(curvature) 측정 방법을 제안한다. 이 방법은 국소적인 모양 정보(shape descriptors)만을 사용하므로 펜 입력동안 곧바로(on-the-fly) 곡률을 측정할 수 있다. 본 알고리즘은 3차원 스케치 기반 모델링 애플리케이션에서 펜 마킹 인식을 위해서 사용되었다.

  • The Fisher information matrix plays a significant role in statistical inference in connection with estimation and properties of variance of estimators. In this paper, we define the parameter space of the t-manifold using its Fisher's matrix and characterize the t-manifold from the viewpoint of information geometry. The ${\alpha}$-scalar curvatures to the t-manifold are calculated.

Flexural ductility of prestressed concrete beams with unbonded tendons

  • Based on a numerical method to analyse the full-range behaviour of prestressed concrete beams with unbonded tendons, parametric studies are carried out to investigate the influence of 11 parameters on the curvature ductility of unbonded prestressed concrete (UPC) beams. It is found that, among various parameters studied, the depth to prestressing tendons, depth to non-prestressed tension steel, partial prestressing ratio, yield strength of non-prestressed tension steel and concrete compressive strength have substantial effects on the curvature ductility. Although the curvature ductility of UPC beams is affected by a large number of factors, rather simple equations can be formulated for reasonably accurate estimation of curvature ductility. Conversion factors are introduced to cope with the difference in partial safety factors, shapes of equivalent stress blocks and the equations to predict the ultimate tendon stress in BS8110, EC2 and ACI318. The same equations can also be used to provide conservative estimates of ductility of UPC beams with compression steel.

Evolution of Flame Shape to a Vortex Pair

  • The PSC (Propagation of Surfaces under Curvature) algorithm is adapted to the simulation of a flame propagation in a premixed medium including the effect of volume expansion across the flame front due to exothermicity. The algorithm is further developed to incorporate the flame anchoring scheme. This methodology is successfully applied to numerically simulate the response of an anchored V-flame to two strong free stream vortices, in accord with experimental observations of a passage of Karman vortex street through a flame. The simulation predicts flame cusping when a strong vortex pair interacts with flame front. In other words, this algorithm handles merging and breaking of the flame front and provides an accurate calculation of the flame curvature which is needed for flame propagation computation and estimation of curvature-dependent flame speeds.
