  • In this study I compared Korea's elementary school mathematics curriculum and its handbook with Japan's curriculum and its handbook. Based on that work, I induced some suggestions which is useful to develop mathematics curriculum in the future. First, the purposes of Korea's elementary school mathematics curriculum focused on the system of mathematics, scholastic ability and learning volition. On the other hand, Japan's curriculum concentrated on the utility of mathematics in daily life and the motive of learning mathematics. Secondly, purposes of mathematics education written in Japan's curriculum handbook, differing from Korea's, are closely divided into concrete items. Finally, purposes of mathematics education in each grade, written in Japan's curriculum handbook, are presented in outlined form according to general purpose of mathematics curriculum. The merit of this way is that the researcher could display flexibilities and creativities in making mathematics textbook.

  • As creativity and problem-solving ability become core competencies, the main objectives of programming subjects in the elementary and secondary educational curriculum is 'computational thinking'. This goal can not be achieved at the level of understanding the characteristics of the programming language and the simple utilization abilities of the computer. The abilities to write algorithms and solve problems in real life situations using programming languages are required. In order to cultivate these abilities, the curriculum of the programming area was strengthened in the elementary and middle education curriculum, and the criteria for evaluating the achievement level were also prepared. However, the curriculum that can be used in actual education field is not yet established. In this study, we analyzed the researches on the existing programming curriculum and evaluated how well the curriculum meets the achievement criteria. Also, we can suggest the aspects to be considered in the study of programming curriculum and to verify whether the results of curriculum operation are in line with achievement criteria. In addition, future directions in elementary and middle school programming curriculum are suggested.

  • Recently, a new revised national curriculum('2007 Revised') of the 'Environment' subject for middle and high schools was announced, which is namely the 7th revised national curriculum. In the new national curriculum, the name of the 'environment' subject for middle schools has been unchanged, but the name of the subject for high schools has been changed from the 'Ecosystem & Environment' to 'Environment'. And some of the contents have been revised to incorporate the changed status of environmental education areas since the last announcement of the 'Environment' curriculum, which was in the late of 1997. Especially, in this new curriculum, the concept of the 'Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)' was implemented. The purpose of this research is to investigate the process of developing the new 'Environment' curriculum for middle and high schools and to examine the resulted, new revised curriculum. In order to do these, this research examined the main directions of the revision, compared the new announced curriculum with the current and the proposed one, which was researched by the authors in this article. And this research discussed the process and the announced results of the revised national curriculum of the 'Environment' subject.

  • The seventh curriculum put into operation gradually from first-year student in 2000 academic years of elementary school is subject to form and apply a step-wise level curriculum. Mathematics(correspond to junior high school course from 7th school year to 9th school year) should apply a step-wise level curriculum from 7th school year in 2001 academic years. Accordingly, mathematics teachers must diagnose actual conditions of educations, distribution tables of test results, step-wise teaching-studying programs etc. They also make proper plans suitable for actual situations of each school, prepare appropriate teaching materials and aids. I investigated preceding studies planned for preparation of putting into operation of a step-wise level curriculum. It showed that most of the studies were conducted at schools of medium or large scale and studies conducted at schools of small scale was rare. There were 113 small scale middle schools out of total 297 middle schools in Kyongsangbuk-do area in 2000. In this situation, I felt necessities of modeling of a step-wise level curriculum suitable for small scale schools. In this study, I modeled a step-wise level curriculum suitable for small scale middle schools, applied this model to 44 students in M middle school. I modeled two types of curriculum. One is a step-wise level curriculum that execute special supplementation process to students who do not complete 7-가 step successfully. The other is a step-wise level curriculum which is a regular model for a step-wise level of 7-나 step. I carried out an academic achievement test and intimacy test about mathematics before and after the application of the model. In this study, I found out that this model was very effective in academic achievement of students and helpful to declined students in scholarship. In the intimacy test, It was found out that most of the students gained confidence in mathematics, felt less anxiety, formed positive self consciousness. Therefore, I think that this model will be helpful to the application of the seventh step-wise level curriculum.

First, DACUM technique applied curriculum development. Job Classification of Disaster management was consisted of four jobs - mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery - by three times discussions of expert panels. Job analysis and curriculum development were performed by the DACUM panels who consisted of three subject-matter experts and one educational expert on each field. Curriculum developed mitigation was nine courses, preparedness was twelve courses, response was seven courses, and recovery was four courses. Second, Expert committee developed curriculum. Expert committee consisted of five experts and three educational expert. Expert committee was held four times. Curriculum developed thirty five courses. Then disaster management curriculum determined by discussion of experts. disaster management curriculum considered (1)mitigation and preparedness was thirty one courses, (2)response and recovery was fourteen courses, (3)man-made was six courses, (4)manager level was four courses.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to develop gerontological curriculum model which reflects the need of Korean society. Method: Three round Delphi survey method was applied to find consensus of gerontological nursing competencies (knowledge, attitudes and skills) for graduates of nursing schools from the panel of gerontological nursing practice experts. Important concepts in gerontological nursing were delineated from literature review and discussions of gerontological nursing educators. Based on these results the gerontological nursing curriculum model was developed and course structure outlined by the researchers as a group. Result: As the result of delphi survey, 32 items of knowledge, 29 items of attitude, and 21 items of skill were identified. The curriculum model constructed around a cube with three plane- functional capacity levels, settings, and nursing practice. Specific knowledge, attitudes and skills for gerontological theory and practicum course were suggested. Competency items were assigned to theory and/or practice. Conclusion: A curriculum model for gerontological nursing has been developed by a group of gerontological nursing educators. The curriculum model should be further tested and developed with detailed theory and practicum course outline and textbooks.

  • I aim to discover that how greatly the curriculum of Life Dance department has had an effect on the career of students majoring in dance, with research objects being Life Dance department of two universities, located on the metropolitan area. The study method, called qualitative, includes some suggestions on the curriculum of the two and comparison, analysis of job-related materials; further, it involves discussion on the influence the curriculum has had on the career as dance trainers. The results from it are as follows; first, the curriculum of the department mostly consists of pure art such as Korean dance, modern dance, ballet, but has few creative life dance programs. Second, the employment into the art area has been more often than to the counterpart. Finally, it shows that a title of a department does not make a big difference and affect the employment rate. In conclusion, as the completion of the curriculum does not always guarantee a success, it is recommended that college students get some competent certificates related to dance.

  • The purpose in this study is to determine the relationship between the curriculum orientations and professional teaching practices of Korean secondary school home economics teachers for the development of home economics curriculum. The instruments, Individual Curriculum Orientation profile(ICOP) and Professional Teaching Practice(PTP) were used to survey randomly selected 525 home economics leachers. The curriculum orientations explored were academic rationalism, technical, cognitive process, personal relevance, and social reconstruction. The professional teaching practices examined were customary-instrumental, interactive and reflective practices. Using canonical correlation, home economics teacher's teaching practices were found to be significantly related to their curriculum orientations. However, only 17.7% of the variability in professional teaching practices was explained by the five curriculum orientations.
