This study was conducted to investigate the changes of the residual amount in the leafstalk (end) and the fore-end (upper) portion of lettuce leaves during cultivation period to 14 days, 12 times in total (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10, 12, 13 and 14 days) after spraying with boscalid and lufenuron. In the case of boscalid, the initial concentrations at 3 hours (0 day) of the leafstalk and the fore-end portion of lettuce leaves were 18.26 mg/kg and 84.97 mg/kg, respectively and the residual amounts were rapidly decreased to 0.31 mg/kg and 0.37 mg/kg at 14 days after chemical application. In the case of lufenuron, the initial concentrations at 3 hours (0 day) of the leafstalk and the fore-end portion of lettuce leaves were 0.91 mg/kg and 5.21 mg/kg, respectively and the residual amounts were rapidly decreased to 0.06 mg/kg and 0.09 mg/kg at 13 days after chemical application. The variations of the residual concentrations analyzing 12 times after spraying showed that the residual amounts of the leafstalk portion of lettuce leaves were less than its fore-end portion in boscalid and lufenuron. In additon, 9 kinds of pesticide including boscalid in 16 lettuce leaf (found to contain pesticide in 2013) showed that the residual amounts of the leafstalk portion of lettuce leaves were less than its fore-end portion as well.

Higher yield in rice paddies is greatly dependent on adequately balanced and timely supply of water. A majority of rice paddy in Korea is generally irrigated by rainfall, but in many cases it has to be supplemented by artificial irrigation for optimum rice culture. Although the water requirement of rice plant is far higher than that of other crops, submerged condition of rice paddy is not necessarily required. The moisture requirement of rice plant varies with its growing stages, and it is possible to increase the irrigation efficiency through reduction of water loss due to percolation in rice paddies. An experiment was conducted on the effectiveness of economical use of water by different irrigation period and different method of cultivation. The experimental plots were set up by means of randomized block design with three duplications; (a) Alltime submerged (b) Economically controlled, and (c) Extremely controlled. Three different irrigation periods were (a) Initial stage (b) Inter-stage, and (c) last stage. The topsoil of the three plots were excavated to the depth of 30cm and then compacted with clay of 6 cm thickness. Thereafter, they were piled up with the excavated top soils, leveled and cored with clay of 6cm thickeness arround footpath in order to prevent leakage. The results obtained frome the experiments are as follows; (1) There is no difference among the three experiment plots in terms of physical and chemical contditions, soil properties, and other characteristics. (2) Colulm length and ear length are not affected by different irrigation methdos. (3) There is no difference in the mature rate and grain weight of rice for the three plots. (4) The control plot which was irrigated every three days shows an increased yield over the all the time submerged plot by 17 persent. (5) The clay lined plot whose water holding capacity was held days long, needs only to be irrigated every 7 days. (6) The clay lined plot showes an increased yield over the untreated plot; over all the time submerged plot by 18 percent, extremely controlled plot by 18 percent, and economically controled plot by 33 percent.

Pig slurry has been considered as environmental waste to be treated in an appropriate manner. Moreover, water-born pollution loads by agricultural non-point source(NPS) pollution are expected to become intensified due to ongoing precipitation change. This study was conducted to develop a best management practice to reduce NPS pollution load by agricultural activity with pig manure compost. An eco-friendly way, small drainage pond, was suggested in this study to avoid direct drainage of agricultural runoffs and eventually reduce the amount of pollutants discharged into the surrounding aqua-environment. A small pond($12m^2$) was constructed at the corner of a rice paddy field($17,15m^2$) located in Suwon, Korea. Water was allowed to drain only via a small drainage pond. Sampling was repeatedly made at two locations, one from an entrance and the other from an exit of a pond, during the rice cultivation period(May to October, 2013). Generally, sampling was made only when runoff water drained through a pond, such as during and/or after rain(irrigation). The water quality analysis showed that all quality parameters(SS, $COD_{Mn}$, T-N, and T-P) were improved as water passed through the pond. The amount of runoff water was reduced by 67.8%. Suspended solids and $COD_{Mn}$ concentrations were reduced by 79.8% and 71.9%, respectively. In case of T-N and T-P amounts, the reduction rates were 73.6% and 74.9%, respectively. Our data implies that agricultural NPS pollution from rice paddy fields with pig manure-based fertilizer can be effectively managed when an appropriate drainage water management practice is imposed.
The dissipation patterns of a boscalid in cucumber under greenhouse condition was investigated to establish pre-harvest residue limit (PHRL) and biological half-life. Initial concentration of boscalid in cucumber at standard application rate was $7.29\;mg\;kg^{-1}$ and decreased to $0.04\;mg\;kg^{-1}$ after 15 days with half-life of 1.9 day, while the initial concentration was $14.69\;mg\;kg^{-1}$ and decreased to $0.11\;mg\;kg^{-1}$ after same period with half lift of 2.0 day at double application rate. PHRL was suggested by prediction curve derived from the decay curve of boscalid at double rate treatment. For example, $10.39\;mg\;kg^{-1}$ was calculated for 10 days before harvest, and $1.73\;mg\;kg^{-1}$ for 5 days. Dilution effect was major factor far the decrease of boscalid residue due to fast increasement of weight of cucumber during cultivation. Final residues level of boscalid was predicted based on the dissipation curve and guideline on safe use, when boscalid was used to control powdery mildew and gray mold. At standard rate application, $1.26\;mg\;kg^{-1}$ and $1.33\;mg\;kg^{-1}$ were calculated as final residue levels for control powdery mildew and gray mold, respectively, which are above the MRL(Meximum Residue Limit).
Silkworm is known to be damaged under the unfavorable environmental conditions. Recently, it has been often argued that nicotine is a main factor to affect the silkworm nutritional balance and to result in decrease of quantitative characters, and unbalance of larval nutrition. Especially in spring season, there is tendency to produce nicotine damage to silkworm fed with the mulberry leaf near to tobacco field early cultivated in mulching system. In these connections, the trial was made in the different pots placing by the different distance 10rn, 20m, 40m, and 60m in the direction of east-north from the tobacco field. Location of pot near to the tobacco fold is 40m below the tobacco Held and gradually higher than the tobacco field by 10 degree of slope. In addition, when the mulberry field is divided into two areas from the east-south to west-north, southern east zone is lowering down below 10 degree of slope and has 36% of east-south wind, 21% of south-east wind and 16% of south wind, etc. Pots are left on the mulberry field from the completion of lower part leaf harvest to just before upper part leaf harvest is completed for 32 days. Then silkworm at 4th-5th stage was fed with the leaf grown during the period and larval characters are statistically analyzed. The results are summarized as follows: 1. 10-40m distant pot statistically at the same level has the longest larval duration and 60m distant pot is. not significant at 5% level. Whole larval duration has same tendency as in the 5th larval duration. 2. Percentage of delayed molting larvae at the 5th stage is increased in 10m distant pot and there is no significance statistically in other pots, as compared with that of control. 3. It is not showed that there is no damage to mortality of the old larvae in 60m distant pot. 4. 10-20m distant pot produces a low pupation and others are at the same level statistically at 5% significance, 5. It is showed that nicotine damage is occurred in single cocoon freight and cocoon shell weight up to 60m distant pot, rather higher damage in cocoon shell weight than in single cocoon weight. 6. It is showed that cocoon yield from 10, 000 molted larvae including double cocoon is decreased up to 40m distant pot far from the tobacco field in which 40% of cocoon yield in 10m distant pot by 7kg, 26% of cocoon yield in 20m distant pot by 3.9kg, 24% of cocoon yield in 40m distant pot by 3.6kg, and 12% of cocoon yield in 60m distant pot by 1.8kg, as compared with control. However, there is no significance statistically at 5% level in 60m distant pot. With these above results, it is concluded that nicotine da mage could be occurred in cocoon yield and cocoon quality up to 60m distant far from the tobacco field.
This study was conducted to evaluate the application effects of three different granular fused magnesium phosphate products on soybean in a volcanic ash upland soil(Namweon series) of Cheju island. They were two domestic products(Kyunggi Chemical Industrial Co., LTD, Pungnong Biryo Industrial Co., LTD) and an imported Chinese product that were manufactured from different added materials. A powder fused magnesium phosphate. a single superphosphate(water soluble phosphatic fertilizer) and a fused superphosphate(mixed water soluble phosphate and 2% citric acid soluble phosphate) were presented as check fertilizers. Yield of soybean was the highest in the Pungnong product of granular fused magnesium phosphate. the next was the Chinese product imported and the Kyunggi product was the lowest but there was no statistical significance among the three granular products of fused magnesium phosphate. There was no clear tendency between yield and yield components of soybean plant however, the effects on the number of mainstem nodes, number of branches nodes and number of pods per plant were observed in the increased yield treaments. Phosphate concentration in stems and pods of soybean plant at harvesting stage was higher than those in stems of soybean plant during growing period. Uptake amounts and recovery rates of phosphate in stems and pods of soybean plant at harvesting stage were similar with the yield increasing tendency on soybean. In the changes of soil pH at different periods, the application of phosphatic fertilizers was increased soil pH. Soil pH in Chinese product was higher than domestic products, but it was similar to single superphosphate. The available silicate concentrations of soil were higher in the plot of Pungnong product than Chinese product.
The amount of nutrients from the effluents of rice culture - free-range ducks (RCFD) paddy fields and the effects of natural wetlands located at downstream of RCFD on water quality and aquatic plants was evaluated. This was carried out in a 61.9 ha paddy fields in Ulsan, Gyeongnam, where downstream is a 5.9 ha natural wetland, 61% of which was covered with well-developed aquatic plants. The amounts of T-N and T-P in the effluent from paddy field with RCFD were 13.7 and $2.5kg\;ha^{-1}$, respectively, which is 1.2~2.5 times higher than those observed in conventional rice culture practice. The amount of runoff from the RCFD area, calculated using the revised TANK model, was $543mm\;ha^{-1}$ with 808 kg of T-N and 130 kg of T-P during rice cultivation period. The dominant aquatic plants in the wetland includes Phragmites communis, Zizania latifolia, Persicaria thunbergii. etc. The nutrient contents of the aquatic plants which amounted to 761 kg of T-N and 103 kg of T-P were almost equivalent to 94% and 79% of the T-N and T-P in RCFD and CRC effluent. Therefore, the use and maintenance of wetlands in RCFDs area could be a good solution to management the non-point pollution from duck feces in RCFD paddy fields.

The cultivation area of rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) has been increased for oil production and landscaping purpose in Korea. However, as the color of rapeseed flower is very simple, diversified flower color is necessary to improve landscape effect. Interspecific and intergeneric crosses between rapeseed (Brassica napus) and three Cruciferae crops were performed in order to grow diverse flower color of rapeseed. The silique formation rate of interspecific cross rapeseed with cabbage (B. oleracea L) was relatively high (65.8%) and higher than intergeneric cross with rapeseed and radish (Raphanus sativus L.), rapeseed and Orychophragmus, respectively. During silique developing period after artificial pollination, there were many siliques without seeds due to the failure of fertilization. The average number of seed per silique obtained from cross rapeseed and cabbage, rapeseed and radish, rapeseed and O. violaceus were 0.12, 0.4 and 0.12, respectively. The phenotypes of $F_1$ hybrid plants from cross rapeseed and Cruciferae crops were mostly similar to maternal line, but leaf length and leaf width were increased. The interspecific cross of rapeseed and cabbage generated ivory color of flower which is the medium color of parents, and intergeneric cross of rapeseed and O. violaceus created entities with larger flowers which seems to enhance landscape effect. The fatty acid composition of most hybrid seeds intermediated of the two parents for oleic acid, linoleic acid and linolenic acid, content. Whereas hybrid of rapeseed and radish produced less erucic acid than radish parent.

There is high vulnerability of soil loss in sloping and highland used for agricultural production due to the low surface covering in summer rainy season. This study evaluated the surface-covering rate of landscape crop in reducing soil loss in the highland. The experiment was conducted in a 55% sloped lysimeter with three treatments of planting density using Korean native chrysanthemum, and investigated the soil coverage rate, run-off water, and soil erosion. The three treatments according to the degree of soil covering are bare soil as the control treatment TC, coverage rate of 43-59% for treatment T1, and, coverage rate of 63-81% for treatment T1, and T2. During the cultivation period, the average reduction of run-off water was 71% for treatment T1 and 76% for treatment T2, which are better, compared with the control. The reduction in eroded soil was 84% in treatment T1 and 98% for treatment T2, which is also better than the control treatment. Therefore, it is possible to alleviate the soil loss in sloping lands by planting chrysanthemum, which is superior among the perennial plant species and considered as a crop with economic value.

Sufficient seedling establishment of Chinese milk vetch (CMV) is the most important factor in the CMV cultivation. In order to obtain sufficient seedling stand, CMV seed should be planted at right seed planting date. An optimum CMV seed planting time for stable seedling establishment was determined based on the final water drainage time for rice harvest in fall. Five planting times from 10 days before water drainage (DBWD) to 15 days after water drainage (DAWD) at five day interval were evaluated during the period of 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 and the optimum CMV seed planting time was determined based on seedling stand, winter survival rate, and dry matter production. CMV seedling stand before winter was high with $575{\sim}1,050\;plants/m^2$ regardless of seed planting times but after overwintering, it was greater in seed planting date between 5 DBWD to 5 DAWD than that of 10 to 15 DAWD treatments. Winter survival rate, dry matter production and seed production yield also showed similar trend to the seedling establishment. On the other hand, when CMV seeds were sowed early at 10 DBWD, seedling stand and winter survival rate were lower than that of 5 DBWD to 5 DAWD. This result indicates that an optimum CMV seed planting time based on the final water drainage could be between 5 DBWD (September 20) to 5 DAWD (September 30).
