This study investigated the engineering properties of crushed sand, based on improvement quality technology, and washed sand concrete by conducting mock-up test, in order to verify the availability of crushed sand for full sized structure. Test results showed that fluidity, air content, supersonic waves and corrosion state of concrete using crushed sand had favorable results. In addition, it is found that compressive strength, drying shrinkage length change, hydration heat and neutralization of crushed sand concrete exhibited similar tendency, with that of washed sand concrete. The crushed concrete using developed quality improvement technology shows comparable performance to washed sand concrete.

This study is to investigate the application of concrete with crushed sand on site. As a result, it is showed that the combined sand mixed with sea sand is very desirable for obtaining workability and strength of concrete, and the optimal replacement percentage of crushed sand is 50% with sea sand. After all, the crushed sand could be sufficiently used as a fine aggregate for concrete in the aspect of economical efficiency and quality, but the particle shape and microsand passing No.200 sieve should be firstly improved for increasing workability of concrete on site.

In this paper, study on applicability and quality control of the concrete using crushed sand. Recently, Trouble of sand supply is occurred according to exhaustion of natural sand resources. Now, application of crushed sand are proposed for solution of trouble of sand supply. Therefore, this study evaluated properties of concrete using crushed sand which mixing rate and changing FM.

Recently, interest grew recently on the quality of aggregates following the diminution of primary resources from river and the growing construction demand which exhausted high-quality sand sources around large cities and incited the use of low grade aggregates like shore sand and sea sand that can be supplied in natural state. Especially, the environmental preservation concern and the augmentation of public grievance about the exploitation of sea sand as substitute to river sand are gradually impeding the supply. This situation aggravated by the recent interdiction to extract sea sand which resulted in sand crisis that even led once to the suspension of construction works. The lack of sea sand and river sand increased the exploitation of crushed sand which occupies now nearly 20% of the whole quantity of fine aggregates. And, the use of crushed sand may be expected to grow continuously in the future. This paper described that the properties of crushed sand and the concrete using the crushed sand, the technologies to improve quality of crushed sand and the concrete in order to provide information for the production of high-quality concrete using crushed sand.

It is difficult to keep the balance of supply and demand for natural aggregates in recent years, because natural resources have become to be almost exhausted. Crushed stone is already used for coarse aggregate instead of river gravel at present. Now, crushed sand or sea sand should be used for fine aggregate, because natural sand also has been exhausted with a few exceptions around Nakdong River. The sea sand has a lot of problems which are the corrosion of reinforcement bars, the investment of facility for cleansing salt and the cost increase due to the insufficiency of industrial water. Therefore, it is necessary to produce and to utilize the crushed sand very actively, but some material properties which are related to water absorption, strength and chemical durability, prevent from determining the generalized criteria because its rocks make much differences in its physical and chemical characteristics. In this paper, fundamental physical properties of crushed sand, which comes from Daegu Subway construction fields, have been investigated for the usability on basic material of concrete. The optimum replacement ratio and the strength estimation method of crushed sand replacing natural sand also have been presented here through the compressive strength test of ready-mixed concrete cylinders.
Large-scale direct shear tests were conducted in order to investigate both the shear strength of soil itself and the friction behavior at the interface of soil/geosynthetics in respect of efficiency in this study. Sand, crushed stone and three types of geotextile (i.e. one woven geotextile and two nonwoven geotextiles) were used in the experimental program. The considered interfaces for the evaluation of interface shear strength in this study included sand/sand, crushed stone/crushed stone, sand/woven geotextile, crushed stone/woven geotextile, crushed stone/nonwoven geotextile-A and crushed stone/nonwoven geotextile-B. The results showed that the efficiency of 84% was obtained at the interface of sand/woven geotextile compared with the shear strength of sand itself (i.e. sand/sand interface). The efficiencies of 74%, 83% and 72% were obtained at the interface of crushed stone/nonwoven geotextile-A, crushed stone/nonwoven geotextile-B and crushed stone/woven geotextile, respectively compared with the shear strength of crushed stone itself (i.e. crushed stone/crushed stone interface).

Generally, the strength of concrete depends on factors of materials, mix proportions, compaction, manufacturing methods and curing and so on. And recently, it has increased the using of crushed sand for concrete due to the exhaustion of good natural aggregate. In case of Korea, in 2004, the using ratio of crushed sand occupies about 28% of whole fine aggregate. This is an experimental study to compare and analyze the influence of W/B ratio and replacement ratio of crushed sand on the fluidity and compressive strength of high strength concrete. For this purpose, the mix proportions of concrete according to the W/B (31.5, 27.5, 23.5%) and replacement ratio of crushed sand (0, 20, 40%) was selected. And then air content, slump-flow, a-lot, compressive strength test were performed.

This study is aimed for investigating the influence of mortar on improved of surface shape of crushed sand, and analyzing the physical properties of fresh state and hardened state. By the test results, it was found that the flow value and bleeding ratio was increased, but the change of flow value according to time was decreased with the improved surface shape of crushed sand. Also, comparing improved of surface shape of crushed sand with not improved of surface shape of crushed sand on strength, compressive strength is about the same and flexural strength decrease in case of improved of surface shape of crushed sand.
The rheological behaviour of high strength self compacting concrete (HS-SCC) studied through an experimental investigation is presented in this paper. The effect of variation in supplementary cementitious materials (SCM) $vis-{\grave{a}}-vis$ four different types of processed crushed sand as fine aggregates is studied. Apart from the ordinary Portland cement (OPC), the SCMs such as fly ash (FA), ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) ultrafine slag (UFS) and micro-silica (MS) are used in different percentages keeping the mix -paste volume and flow of concrete, constant. The combinations of rheology, strength and durability are equally important for selection of mixes in respect of high-rise building constructions. These combinations are referred to as the rheo-strength and rheo-durability which is scientifically linked to performance based rating. The findings show that the fineness of the sands and types of SCM affects the rheo-strength and rheo-durability performance of HS-SCC. The high amount of fines often seen in fine aggregates contributes to the higher yield stress. Further, the mixes with processed sand is found to offer better rheology as compared to that of mixes made using unwashed crushed sand, washed plaster sand, washed fine natural sand. The micro silica and ultra-fine slag conjunction with washed crushed sand can be a good solution for high rise construction in terms of rheo-strength and rheo-durability performance.

The paper evaluates the effect of the physical property, fineness modulus (FM) and replacement ratio of crushed sand on the characteristics of concrete. This is intended to use crushed sand from Daegu-Kyungbuk region as the fine aggregate of concrete. The experimental result indicates that the replacement ratio of crushed sand needs to be less than 50% to satisfy the mixed gradation of both natural and crushed sand when their FMs are 2.0 and 3.2, respectively. The slump of concrete with crushed sand increased as the replacement ratio of crushed sand increased, while the workability of concrete with the replacement ratio of more than 75% was significantly reduced. The air content and bleeding rate of concrete was reduced as the replacement ratio increased. Furthermore, due to the enhancement of the concrete adhesive regardless of the FM of crushed sand, compressive strength of concrete tended to improve as the replacement ratio increased.
