TRIZ, the theory of inventive problem solving, is widely used not only in traditional engineering fields such as mechanical, electrical, and electronic engineering but also in IT field and generated good results. Therefore, recently many universities have opened TRIZ as a regular course. Especially, 40 inventive principles of TRIZ are not only creative thinking tools that beginners can learn relatively easily but also very effective problem solving tools, but it is not that easy to utilize it properly for solving real problems as you think. In order to use inventive principles as powerful tools for creative problem solving, it is important to educate learners to use it repeatedly through stimulating their interest about the inventive principles. So, in this paper, we introduce various inventive principles hidden in the cards that can be easily accessible in everyday life, and propose how to educate learners to evoke their interest in the inventive principles through making cards by utilizing the inventive principles.
A new product development and product realization process (PRP) is a circulating and feedback process by generating ideas through creative problem solving process. The early stages of PRP correspond to conceptual design and product development, in which a large portion of product life cycle cost can be saved. The optimal design method for this stage is a robust design suggested by Taguchi. Quality must be 'engineered in' since it can not be 'inspected out.' A robust design is an engineering methodology to improve the quality of a product by minimizing the efforts of variations without eliminating the causes. The objective of this study is to propose a scheme and a case study of robust design for exploring design parameters, and introduce a creative problem solving process. Major research subjects include a creative problem solving process, robust design procedure and their implementation. For the experiment of Taguchi method, a toy catapult is adopted. For the creativity development, a short project is assigned to devise a similar tool with the toy catapult. A reference model is suggested to compare and evaluate their ideas.

The purpose of this study is to develop and implement an alternative elementary science curriculum to enhance creative problem solving abilities. The curriculum consisting of three main elements was developed. The three elements are content knowledge, process knowledge and creative thinking skills. The curriculum was validated by more than 10 science educators, scientists, and curriculum specialists. In order to implement the curriculum, three lessons for 5th grade were developed and taught by a problem-based-learning(PBL) method in an experimental group during the second semester. For the comparison group the ordinary lesson based on the 6th national science curriculum was taught by the same science teacher during the same period. Performance assessment was developed and used for the pre and post test. Two-way ANOVA, and T-test were used to check whether there are any significant differences between the gains of scores(pre-post test) of the two groups. The results of the test showed that the experimental group increased significantly in the total creative thinking problem solving skills, but the comparision group did not.

The purpose of this study is aimed at giving proof that helps the elementary practical arts education system accomplish as the effects are turned out experimentally. Two classes of the sixth grade of J elementary school in Dae-gu have been selected in order to be experimented. One was chosen as an experimental group, the other was done as a comparative group. The creative-problem-solving learning-model was applied to the experimental group, and the traditional way of teaching was applied to the comparative group. For four classes of the sixth grades, ‘chapter 8: Making with recycled materials’ was proceeded as the content. Then. tests about the way of environmental awareness and creativity were carried out twice. After that, the results of pre and after-test in the comparative and experiment groups were compared using the t-test method. Following the analysis of the data collected in this study. the following major observations were obtained: First, children who were educated the creative problem-solving in a practical arts education achieved higher scores than before. Therefore, it turns out that the CPS method is an effective way to improve the environmental awareness in children. It showed that it included lots of daily habits connected with daily life and it made the intention to carry out the environment-preservation stronger and children´s attitude towards the environment improved. Moreover, making with recycled materials was used to solve an environmental problem, affecting in a positive way in our life. It also made the positive recognition about the environment. Second. the application of the creative problem-solving class of the practical arts education can make positive results to children. It helped children to have more interest in the environment around them. Children´s fluency, flexibility and originality in their ideas were improved as much as possible while they were solving problems. Consequently, the application of the creative problem-solving class model of elementary practical arts environmental education lets children expand environment consciousness and creativity.
This paper describes the effects of Novel Engineering(NE) on improvement of creative problem-solving abilities. We performed two classes for control and experience group. They are all 5th grade students. Core concept of the NE lesson is ecosystem and interaction with 8 hours long. We designed a lesson able to integrate subjects like Korean, Science and Practical Arts. Then we performed pre-and-post t-test on creative problem-solving ability. The experimental results showed that NE lesson has a high effects on 4 sub-elements like self conviction and independence, diffusion thinking, critical thinking and motivational component. The research showed that NE class is a good teaching-learning method to cultivate various competencies for our children. NE is a convergence learning model integrating various problem-solving paradigms ever researched. Thus we expect that NE is a foundation for convergence curriculum model to lead our children to their future and get settled to all schools.

We investigated environmental problems related to clothing, and attempted their practical solutions using Future Problem Solving Program in order to cultivate the creative character in teenagers. We applied "teaching and learning plans" to seventy-seven the first graders of high school students in 2 classes in Gyeonggi-do, one hour per day for 3 weeks, from August 23 to September 8 2011. Statistical analyses were performed using the SPSS for Windows software(version 17.0). Mean differences in results between pretest and posttest were evaluated using Student's t-test. We selected 'production of fabrics, production of clothing, disposal and recycling of clothing and washing of clothing' as the learning theme in educational content factors of 'clothing culture in consideration of environment'. And we developed thirteenth teaching and learning plans and educational materials including 4 problems, 2 worksheets, 10 team worksheets, 7 video materials and 7 Power Point materials using Future Problem Solving Program(FPSP). The measurements of fluency, flexibility, originality and problem-solving ability are significantly improved. The level of creativity in the items of fluency, flexibility and originality, in particular, exhibited marked improvement, 'below-average' to 'above-average', regardless of academic records and gender. Problem-solving ability in female students was more effective than that of male, but it showed no significant correlation with academic records. The analysis of character-change showed the highest improvement in the awareness on the protection of environment, the character factor in the educational contents. Personalities, confidence, consideration and cooperation in learning method of FPSP also exhibited a significant improvement. But character-change did not correlate with academic records or gender. In the present study, we found that home economics has a positive effect on cultivating creative character. When we selectively and properly apply a course of creative problem-solving of FPSP and a course of creative output to students, we can increase their ability to solve problems, cultivate their creative character and further enhance their interest on home economics.
The purpose of this research was to investigate the possibility of peer recommendation and to provide a diverse perspectives identifying for gifted elementary school students. The subjects were 355 elementary school students who were either fourth, fifth, and sixth grade from D elementary school located in Gyeonggi province, 165 elementary school students who are either fourth, fifth, and sixth grade from J elementary school located in Gyeonggi province, and 16 teachers who were home-room teachers for students surveyed. This research investigate the difference of creative personality, achievement motivation, problem solving patterns, and task preference inventory between students recommended by peer and students not recommended by peer. The results of this research were as follows. Firstly, the students recommended by peer showed the significantly higher creative personality, achievement motivation, problem solving patterns, and task preference than the student not recommended by peer. Secondly, as a result of comparing the students recommended by peer and students not recommended by peer for each grade, fifth and sixth grade students showed a significantly higher score in the test than other graders. Fourth grade students showed significantly higher score in every sections in the test, except for the section of creative personality. Therefore, the peer recommandation method can be applied to fifth, and sixth graders. With the introduction of the 2015 revised curriculum, software education became mandatory in elementary school. The practical subject in the content for the software education consists of information ethics, algorithms, programming, and computer science. Especially, elementary school encourages the unplugged activities. Unplugged activities are preferred among the teachers in the education field as a teaching-learning method. However, those teachers pointed out that the lack of suitable unplugged activity materials was the biggest challenge. In addition, it was pointed out that the existing materials were not suitable for achievement standards, and there are many simple playing-oriented educations that are not linked to computing activities. In this study, we developed an unplugged activity-oriented robot that can be used for the elementary students to learn the basic control structure suggested in the achievement criteria SW education and to develop creative problem solving ability through various activities using sensors. The effectiveness was verified through the software class using the developed robot in this study.
In a basic engineering design class, first year engineering department students learn about engineering design relevant theories and carry out simple projects in teams. By doing a group project in this subject, students develop basic skills such as creativity, teamwork, communication, and problem solving. Before, class proceeded in a way where teams were randomly configured in the beginning of semester and students began working on their project immediately. However, this research introduces a new method where at the beginning of the semester, students are assigned group assignments. Teammates are randomly chosen and constantly switched so that students get a chance to work with different people and experience diverse styles and characteristics. Then, they autonomously form into teams with people they work best and carry out their project. We present the behavior of a monkey robot that recognizes emotions as a case of applying the proposed method. The feedback from the students suggest that this proposed team forming method serves to be effective especially since students who were not aware of other students' characteristics can get to know one another better and form a productive team.
