  • In this paper, we have developed the test equipment to measure performance of oscillator using Double Side Edge Trigger(DSET). This DSET increases counting number of micro pulse by frequency counter, which will successfully reduce the half measuring time to comparison with the existing counter by using DSET. This new concept of performance measuring equipment provides a high productivity and performance improvement.

  • Response characteristics and false counts of laser and white light optical particle counters (OPC) have been studied as a function of particle size using monodisperse polystylen laterx (PSL) particles. Theoretical light scattering calculations for He-Ne laser based counter have been compared with the experimental results and thus good agreements have been found. The light scattering intensity in monochromatic light shows an oscillatory character for the transparent and spherical particles of PSL due to Mie resonance. Because of this effect, the response of the LAS-X OPC showed almost same responses in the diameter ranges of 0.4mu.m to 0.6mu.m and 0.7mu.m to 1.0mu.m for PSL particles. A laser optical particle counter with high flow rate applied for clean room has been studied to identify the noise sources. Three different manufacturer's clean room optical particle counters alos have been tested to measure the background noise level.

  • In the distance measurement system the time-to-digital conversion circuit used measures the distance using the time interval between the start signal and the stop signal. The time interval is generally converted to digital information using a counter circuit considering the response speed. Therefore, a clock signal with a high frequency is required to improve precision, and a clock signal with a high frequency is also required to measure fine distances. In this paper, a counter circuit was designed to increase the accuracy of distance measurement while using the same frequency. The circuit design was performed using a 0.18㎛ CMOS process technology, and the operation of the designed circuit was confirmed through HSPICE simulation. As a result of the simulation, it is possible to obtain an improvement of four times the precision compared to the case of using a general counter circuit.

  • Cleanroom could be largely classified into industrial cleanroom that can be contaminated by particles and bio-cleanroom that can be contaminated by biological particles. Electrical manufacturing companies producing precision machines and electrical parts essentially have industrial cloom facilities and clean technologies to produce defects free products due to particles. Industrial cleanroom should be controlled in respect of 4M1E to prevent from foreign materials of sub-micro unit and to keep out contamination sources from outside. In this paper, a concept for a quantitative methodology to measure the particles from running components was suggested by combining both newly making clean booth such as wear tester and laser particle counter.

  • The naval mine is the explosives that are installed in the water in order to attack surface ships or submarines. So mine warfare is a very important component of naval operations. In this paper, first, understanding of the general concept about mine warfare. Second, introduce the mine hunting progress and mine sweeping progress. And then, suggest the system design method of mine counter measure warfare using several functions. The functions are mine area detection algorithm for side scan sonar image using Adaboost algorithm, and calculation to mine hunting progress rate and mine sweeping progress rate. And techniques that lead the mine disposal vehicle(MDV) to mine.

  • In this paper, the result of study on the effectiveness of anti-submarine defense plan according to the disposition of surface ships has been proposed. The surface ship carries a hull mounted sonar(HMS) as a underwater sensor and a torpedo acoustic counter measure(TACM) as a soft-kill weapon against torpedo attacks from the enemy. Nowadays these underwater systems have been combined into a integrated anti-submarine warfare combat system. And in the real anti-submarine operation environment, several surface ships cooperate for executing ASW plans. Considering these ASW systems and the ASW environment, the models of underwater systems mounted on an surface ship and the a general model of anti-submarine defense plan are proposed. And we designed a scenario for conducting simulations to evaluate the ASW plan according to the variation of the range and the relative angle between surface ships and a capital ship. The simulation results show the effectiveness of ASW plan depends on the formation of surface ships and a capital ship.

  • A whole body counter (WBC) is used in nuclear power plants (NPP) to identify and measure internal radioactivity of workers who is likely to ingest or inhale radionuclides. WBC has several counting geometry, i.e. the thyroid, lung, whole body and gastrointestinal tract, considered with the location where radionuclides are deposited in the body. But only whole body geometry is used to detect internal radioactivity during whole body counting at NPPs. It is overestimated internal exposure dose because this measured values are indicated as the most conservative radioactivity values among the them of others geometry. In this study, experiments to measure radioactivity depending on the counting geometry of WBC were carried out using a WBC, a phantom, and standard radiation sources in order to improve overestimated internal exposure dose. Quantitative criteria, could be selected counting geometry according to ratio of count rates of the upper and lower detectors of the WBC, are provided through statistical analysis method.

  • Present guided missiles are equipped with infrared seeker to find the infrared sources radiating from target plane and then chase, which results in an improvement of the hitting success rate when in striking target objects. To interrupt the chases from the guided missile, the target plane spreads the flare, avoiding the missile attracts. Our research is to develop a 2-color infrared identification technique to discern the flare and real thermal source from target plane. Considering flare radiation properties and EM atmosphere transmission rates, two channels were selected, in which main channel (MC) was in a range of 3.7 μm∼4.8 μm and auxiliary channel (AC) in 1.7 μm∼2.3 μm. A 2500K heat source was used for an artificial flare source, while a 570K heat source was utilized for airplane infrared source in experimental testing. Two infrared sensors detectable only at each chanel were employed in order to measure the voltage ratio from two channels, identifying the flare and real target plane via comparison the voltage ratio. Several experimental conditions were imported in order to prove that our proposed 2-color infrared identification technique is very efficient way to discern heat sources from aircraft and flare, demonstrating that our proposed technique is very promising means for our force’s InfraRed Counter Counter Measure (IRCCM) in order to countermeasure opposite force’s InfraRed Counter Measures (IRCM).

  • This paper discusses the development of a Raman lidar system for remote detection and measurement of hydrogen gas by using a photon counter. The Raman signal of the hydrogen gas is very weak and has a very low signal-to-noise ratio. The photon counter has the advantage of improving the signal-to-noise ratio, because it has a discriminator to eliminate the background noise from the Raman signal of the hydrogen gas. Therefore, a small and portable Raman lidar system was developed using a low-power pulsed laser and a photon-counter system to measure the hydrogen gas concentration remotely. To verify the capability of measuring hydrogen gas using the developed photon-counting Raman lidar system, experiments were carried out using a gas chamber in which it is possible to adjust the hydrogen gas concentration. As a result, our photon-counting Raman lidar system is seen to measure a minimum concentration of 0.65 vol.% hydrogen gas at a distance of 10 m.
