Effects of sit-to-stand imagery group training on balance performance in individuals with chronic hemiparetic stroke: a randomized control trial

  • Objective: To evaluate the effects of sit-to-stand (STS) imagery group training (IGT) on STS movement and balance performance for chronic hemiparetic stroke. Design: Randomized controlled trial. Methods: A total of 30 people with chronic hemiparetic stroke (15 for STS-IGT group and 15 for control) were recruited in this study. The STS-IGT group participated in a videotape-based STS-IGT for 30 minutes a day, five days a week for six weeks, while the control group watched a documentary on television for the same period. The STS-IGT focused on a five-stage protocol. Specifically, external imagery was used during the four phases of the STS movement from the seat of the chair to standing up. All of the participants also participated in a regular rehabilitation program. STS movement and balance performance were assessed using three clinical measures. Results: After training, time to perform the 5-repetition STS test significantly increased in the STS-IGT group (change value, $4.0{\pm}2.0$ sec) compared with the control group (change value, $0.9{\pm}0.7$ sec) (p<0.05). There was a greater improvement in Berg balance scale scores in the STS-IGT group (change value, $0.2{\pm}4.1$ points) compared with the control group (change value, $0.3{\pm}0.9$ points) (p<0.05). There was a greater improvement in Timed Up and Go scores in the STS-IGT group (change value, $2.6{\pm}1.5$ sec) compared with the control group (change value, $0.9{\pm}1.0$ sec) (p<0.05). Conclusions: STS-IGT can be considered as a useful option for restoration of STS movement and balance performance for individuals with chronic hemiparetic stroke who are unable to fully participate in physical activities.

  • We developed fault diagnosis fuzzy expert system for ACS(Advanced Control System). ACS is a DCS(Distributed Control System) with advanced control algorithm fault tolerance capabilities, fault diagnosis functions, and so on. Fuzzy expert system developed for an ACS in this paper gives an operator alarm signal depending on the state of process value and manipulated value, and the cause of alarm in real time. Simple experiment result with several rules for the-fault-diagnosis of drum level loop in Seoul-Power-Plant.

  • Comparative blook analysis was carried out to investigate the difference of blood constituent in four types of physical constitution. Isoleucine(Ile), Alanine(Ala), Cysteine(Cys), Tyrosine(Tyr), Methionine(Met) were measured. And the following results were obtained: 1. The value of Isoleucine(Ile) on the constitution didn't shown significant difference, but between the value of SO-YANG-IN and SO-EUM-IN showed significant difference. 2. The value of Alanine(Ala) on the constitution didn't shown significant difference. 3. The value of Cysteine(Cys) on the constitution didn't shown significant difference, but between the value of SO-YANG-IN and SO-EUM-IN showed significant difference. 4. Between the value of control group and SO-YANG-IN showed significant difference, and between the value of SO-YANG-IN and TAE-EUM-IN, SO-YANG-IN and SO-EUM-IN showed significant difference. 5. Between the value of control group and SO-YANG-IN showed significant difference.

  • Effect of various batter ingredients o acid value, peroxide value, darkening of oil, and changes in volume after frying at 180- $190^{\circ}C$ for 3 times were determined. Organoleptic evaluation was also performed on the fried products. Fried product wit egg yolk raised the acid value, absorbed volume and darkening of frying oil than the control but the peroxide value was the lowest. on the contrary, fried product without egg lowered the acid value, absorbed volume and darkening of frying oil than the control but the peroxide value was high, and the sensory evaluation scores were generally higher in fried product without egg than in the product with egg yolk. In genera, fired products with potato, or potato plus ascorbic acid or carrot lowered the acid value, peroxide value, absorbed volume, and the darkening of frying oil. fried potato 0products were also favorable to the taste panel.

  • The purpose of this paper is to design a robust controller for a class of time-varying systems with bounded disturbance described by the differential equation. The robust desiging method proposed in this paper, called "incentive design method" is different from developed designing methods in the past, and has following properties. The robust control law designed by this method can guarantee a certain value of the cost functional no matter how the disturbance vary within the given bounds. Here, the certain value of the cost functional may not be a saddle-point value, but is the value selected by a system designer. Therefore, the bounded disturbance has at least no bad effect on the value of the cost functional during finite interval of time. The method is based on the theory of incentive differential games. In addition, the form of control law is constructed by the system designer ahead of time. A numerical illustrative example is given in this paper. It is shown from this derivation and this numerical example that the approach developed in this paper is effective and feasible for some practical control problem.l problem.

  • It was conducted to find out that the influence of lipids on blood cholesterol level of chicks and ducks. In this experiments, a comparative study was carried out using chicks and ducks divided into four groups with various diet for the period of four weeks. The results were as follows: 1. The mean value of hematocrit was significantly lower for the chicks fed sesame oil and soybean oil than the chicks fed duck meat. The value of hematocrit was higher for the ducks fed sesame oil, soybean oil and duck meat than for the control group. 2. Blood glucose level was higher for the ducks group than the chicks group. It was lower blood glucose level for the chicks and ducks fed duck meat than any other groups. 3. Blood cholesterol level was lower for the chicks fed sesame oil, soybean oil, and duck meat than for those fed the basal diet(control group). In the ducks group, blood cholesterol level was high. But in the liver organ, it was lower blood cholesterol level for the chicks and ducks fed sesame oil, soybean oil and duck meat, respectively than for those fed the basal diet(control group). 4. Phospholipid of the chicks which were control groups was lower value than for those fed sesame oil and duck meat fed, the value of phospholipid was higher value.

  • A novel order-reduction technique for model predictive control(MPC) is proposed based on the singular value decomposition(SVD) of a pulse response circulant matrix(PRCM) of a concerned system. It is first investigated that the PRCM (in the limit) contains a complete information of the frequency response of a system and its SVD decomposes the information into the respective principal directions at each frequency. This enables us to isolate the significant modes of the system and to devise the proposed order-reduction technique. Though the primary purpose of the proposed technique is to diminish the required computation in MPC, the clear frequency decomposition of the SVD of the PRCM also enables us to improve the robustness through selective excitation of frequency modes. Performance of the proposed technique is illustrated through two numerical examples.

  • This paper concerns controller design for the Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy systems. The design method proposed in this paper is derived in the framework of the optimal control theory utilizing the piecewise quadratic optimal value functions. The major part of the proposed design procedure consists of solving linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Since LMIs can be solved efficiently within a given tolerance by the recently developed interior point methods, the design procedure of this paper is useful in practice. A design example is given to illustrate the applicability of the proposed method.

  • In this paper, proposed a method to improve of control characteristics for power facility using the adaptive sizing of fuzzy inference method. In the use of the controller based the fuzzy logic, a basic mamdani fuzzy controller is applied. However, when the maximum value and the minimum value have to taken, the fuzzy controller can not take a normal value because of formalized grouping form. In this paper, we combine the conventional methods with single valued sets to compensate for the disadvantage caused by the mamdani method control. Simulation results show that the proposed method has better overshoot and steady state arrival time than the conventional control method.

  • The selective migration, attachment and proliferation of periodontal ligament cells are the desired goal of periodontal regeneration therapy. Fibronectin is well known for an attachment protein for dentin surface. Also, Fibroblast growth factor (FGF) is well known to enhance the periodontal regeneration. The purpose of this study was to evaluation the effect of fibronection and FGF on the attachment rate and the cellular activity. Human gingival fibroblast and periodontal ligament cells were cultured from the teeth extracted for non-periodontal reson. Cultured human gingival fibroblast and periodontal ligament cells in vitro were treated with fibronectin and FGF a various dosage and culture times. Cellular activity was examined by MTT assay. The results of this study was demonstrated that cell attachment rate of experimental group was under the control value at 1st, 2nd, 3rd incubation day. But, at 3rd incubation day, attchment value tended to return to the control value. In case of fibronectin alone application, cellular activity was decreased than that of control at 1st, 2nd incubation day. But 3rd day, cellular activity was returned to the control value. The activity of gingival fibroblast in FGF alone application was decreased thatn that of control at each incubation day. But activity of periodontal cell group was increased cell activities at 2nd, 3rd day. Additionally cellular activity of fibronectin & FGF combined application on gingival fibroblast group was similar to control value at incubation day. But activity of periodontal ligament cell group was increased at 2nd, 3rd day compared with control group.This study demonstrated that combined application of fibronectin & FGF induced the selective chemotaxis for periodontal ligament cell in vitro.
