  • The study examined information retrieval tools as predictors for information resources utilization, four research questions, and four hypotheses were made to guide the study. A descriptive survey was adopted for the study. Random sampling technique was used to select sample of 393 from a population of 557 academic staff registered in the University of Port Harcourt library. The questionnaire was adopted as a data collection instrument titled Information retrieval as predictors for information resources utilization (IRPIRUQ). Data were analyzed using both simple and multiple regression while analysis of variance (ANOVA) associate with regression was used for testing the hypotheses at 0.05 alpha level. The study revealed that information resources are under utilized as the OPAC and Online Databases are not easily accessed. Further findings showed that the academic staff made use of internet search engines more often than the OPAC and online databases. It was recommended among others that a new library software be installed in place of KOHA for wider connectivity and adequate distribution of software that will aid usage of the online databases and OPAC.

  • In this paper, we propose new coding techniques for photometry data of three-dimensional(3-D) mesh models. We make a good use of geometry and connectivity information to improve coding efficiency of color, normal vector, and texture data. First of all, we determine the coding order of photometry data exploiting connectivity information. Then, we exploit the obtained geometry information of neighboring vortices through the previous process to predict the photometry data. For color coding, the predicted color of the current vertex is computed by a weighted sum of colors for adjacent vortices considering geometrical characteristics between the current vortex and the adjacent vortices at the geometry predictor. For normal vector coding, the normal vector of the current vertex is equal to one of the optimal plane produced by the optimal plane generator with distance equalizer owing to the property of an isosceles triangle. For texture coding, our proposed method removes discontinuity in the texture coordinates and reallocates texture image segments according to the coding order. Simulation results show that the proposed compression schemes provide improved performance over previous works for various 3-D mesh models.

  • The purpose of this study is to present a reflective review of the earth and universe units from the revised elementary curriculum of 2007-2015 and suggest changes in the 2022 revised curriculum. For this purpose, we conducted an FGI with earth science educators and elementary school teachers regarding the content elements and system, the achievement standards and inquiry activity composition, and the vertical and horizontal curriculum connectivity. Free response and weighted hierarchical analysis items were incorporated into the FGI to ensure logical consistency of the inductively derived improvement. This analysis revealed that the composition of units by grade group had been unevenly distributed among each of the "earth systems" until the 2015 revised curriculum was finalized. Furthermore, the basic concept was still insufficient. We suggest that achievement standards centered on the learning content and skills must state specific scientific core competencies, and inquiry activities should include rigorous critical thinking, student written responses, and student inquiry and analysis. In the hierarchical analysis items, FGI emphasized the inclusion of essential content elements rather than reduction of content elements, understanding-oriented concept learning rather than interest-centered phenomenon learning, basic concept division learning before integration between subjects, and expanding vertical-horizontal connectivity rather than repeating and advancing learning. There is a limit to the generalizing the suggestions proposed in this study to the common opinion of elementary earth science experts. However, since the main vision of the 2022 revised curriculum is to gather opinions through educational entities' participation in a variety of educational subjects, it is suggested that our results should be incorporated as one of the opinions proposed for the 2022 curriculum revision.

  • The linear viscoelastic behavior of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) polymers with different rubber content has been investigated in the frame of a linear viscoelastic model, which takes into account the inter-connectivity of the dispersed rubber particles. The model developed in our previous work has been shown to properly predict the low frequency plateau for the storage modulus, which is generally observed in polymer blends containing core-shell-type impact modifiers. In the present study, further experiments have been carried out on ABS polymers with different rubber content to verify the validity of our linear viscoelastic model. It has been found that our model describes quite properly the rheological behavior of ABS polymers with different rubber content, especially at low frequencies. The experimental data confirm that our model describes the rheological properties of rubber-modified thermoplastic polymers with strong adhesion at the particle/matrix interface more accurately than the Palierne model.

  • Vehicular Ad-hoc Network (VANET) facilities envision future Intelligent Transporting Systems (ITSs) by providing inter-vehicle communication for metrics such as road surveillance, traffic information, and road condition. In recent years, vehicle manufacturers, researchers and academicians have devoted significant attention to vehicular communication technology because of its highly dynamic connectivity and self-organized, decentralized networking characteristics. However, due to VANET's high mobility, dynamic network topology and low communication coverage, dissemination of large data packets (e.g. multimedia content) is challenging. Clustering enhances network performance by maintaining communication link stability, sharing network resources and efficiently using bandwidth among nodes. This paper proposes a mobility-based, multi-hop clustering algorithm, (MBCA) for multimedia content broadcasting over an IEEE 802.11p-LTE-enabled hybrid VANET architecture. The OMNeT++ network simulator and a SUMO traffic generator are used to simulate a network scenario. The simulation results indicate that the proposed clustering algorithm over a hybrid VANET architecture improves the overall network stability and performance, resulting in an overall 20% increased cluster head duration, 20% increased cluster member duration, lower cluster overhead, 15% improved data packet delivery ratio and lower network delay from the referenced schemes [46], [47] and [50] during multimedia content dissemination over VANET.

  • Education will be undergoing major changes with the 4th industrial revolution. As education contents will be important in future smart home service, in-depth interviews were conducted against experts and analyzed by the grounded theory approach. Eleven categories emerged through the analysis. In order for educational content to be utilized in smart home services, value creation (central phenomenon) seems to be most critical with preceding overcome of hamlet syndrome. Diversity of content and connectivity (context) should be ensured, and studies that could enhance user experience (intermediary situations) should be conducted and reflected in the content curation and realtime response (interaction strategy). As a result, it can be inferred that the education content service can be expanded in smart home services while satisfying self-development desire of individuals through these processes. Additional selective coding revealed four immediate need area: self-development, home-improvement, health care, and mindful healing.

  • Fly ash is one of the aluminosilicate sources used for the synthesis of geopolymers. The particle size distribution of fly ash and the content of unburned carbon residue are known to affect the compressive strength of geopolymers. In this study, the effects of particle size and unburned carbon content of fly ash on the compressive strength of geopolymers have been studied over a compositional range in geopolymer gels. Unburned carbon was effectively separated in the $-46{\mu}m$ fraction using an air classifier and the fixed carbon content declined from 3.04 wt% to 0.06 wt%. The mean particle size ($d_{50}$) decreased from $22.17{\mu}m$ to $10.79{\mu}m$. Size separation of fly ash by air classification resulted in reduced particle size and carbon residue content with a collateral increase in reactivity with alkali activators. Geopolymers produced from carbon-free ash, which was separated by air classification, developed up to 50 % higher compressive strength compared to geopolymers synthesized from raw ash. It was presumed that porous carbon particles hinder geopolymerization by trapping vitreous spheres in the pores of carbon particles and allowing them to remain intact in spite of alkaline attack. The microstructure of the geopolymers did not vary considerably with compressive strength, but the highest connectivity of the geopolymer gel network was achieved when the Si/Al ratio of the geopolymer gel was 5.0.

  • Distributed Content Delivering Network (DCDN) will make use of the existing resources of the common Internet users in terms of storage space, bandwidth and Internet connectivity to create it. However DCDN has some limitations that are inefficient using of storage space, reliability and having special load balancing (LB) algorithm. So, this paper proposes Re-distribution based CDN (RDCDN) that overcomes the limitations of DCDN. RDCDN has the content re-distribution algorithm and separates surrogates to main surrogate and sub surrogates. Main surrogate can help service reliability be improved by storing all contents as back-up system. And content re-distribution algorithm also can help storage space be saved because all contents are not stored in every surrogate. Especially, when RDCwDN uses content re-distribution algorithm, it can work active load balancing function without extra LB algorithm like as DCDN. Results of simulation show that the proposed architecture can improve reliability and efficiency of storage space, and it also can offer the same performance as that of commercial CDN and DCDN.
