A Study on Consumer Personal Information in Information Society (정보사회에서의 소비자 개인정보보호에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to propose consumer policy related to the protection of personal information on the basis of regulations and laws in the developed countries. From this study, implications for the protection consumer privacy are discussed as follows. First, Consumer education is needed to enhance consumers'knowledge on their privacy right and this should be done not only by private consumer organization but also by businesses. Second, Businesses should realize ethical responsibilities of consumers'privacy right when they use personal information by databasemarketing. Finally, Government should establish a privacy law concerning both public and private sectors.

  • The potential impact of the methods of sensory science on consumer testing and marketing is reviewed. Areas such as predicting purchase behavior, new approaches to scaling, and cross cultural effects are discussed. An example of the complexity of sensory measurement used to obtain consumer and marketing information is highlighted, using the simple paired preference test as an example.

  • The prior studies for consumer-brand relationships vested brands with personalities after had personified them. In these studies, a brand become the object of consumer's attitude, and former researchers investigated the types and styles of consumer-brand relationships based on this theory. However, I though that these studies did not follow the original concept of 'relationship' for they approached consumer as the subject and a brand as the object.

  • Based on Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory, this research only employs whether to meet consumer needs as a measure, and focuses on the Collaboration Series between Uniqlo and KAWS to discuss the influence of the collaboration between fashion brands and artists on consumer needs. What's more, this paper also proposes whether the collaboration with artists as brands can meet the higher needs of consumers and influence new consumer groups. Finally, it is concluded that the collaboration between fashion brands and artists plays an active role in meeting the higher needs of consumers and can expand new consumer groups, which will provide reference and theoretical basis for enterprises to conduct collaboration with art, incorporate the needs of consumers into the scope of planning, and consider the collaboration with artists more comprehensively.

  • The objective of this study was to estimate the quantitative loss of the consumer surplus due to the tariffs on clothing imports during the WTO starting periods. For 1984-1996, the import price elasticity of the clothing was estimated from the regression of pet capita clothing imports on Per capita GNP, import price index and domestic producer price index. Then the quantitative losses of the consumer surplus in clothing were obtained from the simplified formula for 1990-1995. In spite of the decrease in textiles St clothing tariff rates, consumer costs were increasing, which was caused by the tremendous increase in clothing imports during the same period. The loss of the consumer surplus was 7131 billion wonts in 1995, which accounted for 6.4% of the total clothing expenditure.

The Effects of Consumer-Brand Relationship on Purchasing Attitudes Toward Counterfeits (패션 명품 소비자-브랜드 관계가 복제품 태도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of consumer-brand relationship on purchasing attitudes toward counterfeits. 341 female college students who had purchased fashion luxury brand products were surveyed. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, factor analysis, pearson's correlations, ANOVA, and multiple regression were used. As the results, consumer-brand relationship was classified into three factors; commitment relationship, trust relationship, and emotion relationship. Also, higher consumer-brand relationship was correlated with higher preference and satisfaction, and lower purchasing attitudes toward counterfeits. Also, among the three groups(heavy/middle/low) of consumer-brand relationship, the heavy group had higher preference and satisfaction, and lower purchasing attitudes toward counterfeits. Also, results revealed that 'commitment relationship' and 'emotional relationship' accounted for 32% of the explained variance in 'favorableness', while 'trust relationship' and 'emotional relationship' accounted for 26% and 29% of the explained variance in 'trust toward product quality'. Based on these results, fashion luxury brand marketing strategy would be suggested.

A Scale for Clothing Satisfaction: A Consumer Life Cycle Approach (의복만족 척도: 소비자 생활주기적 접근)

  • This study develops a scale for consumer clothing satisfaction based on Lee et al. 's (2002) five stages of the consumer life cycle (acquisition, possession, consumption, maintenance, and disposal). Data were gathered by surveying college students using convenience sampling, and 419 questionnaires were used in the statistical analysis. In analyzing the data, an exploratory factor analysis and a confirmatory factor analysis using a structural equation modeling were conducted. The proposed scale, which identified various sources of satisfaction and dissatisfaction associated with the 5 consumption cycles of clothing, suggests some guidelines for marketers in enhancing consumer clothing satisfaction across consumption stages. The model test for the scale also identified that consumption satisfaction had the greatest effect on consumer clothing satisfaction showing the strongest loading and squared multiple correlation.

A Study on the Consumer Knowledge Measurement of Apparel Product (의류 상품에 대한 소비자 지식의 척도에 관한 연구)

  • The level of consumer knowledge has been gradually increased with the growth of living standard of consumer and the development of communication technology. The purpose of this study was to investigate the structure and measure of consumer knowledge and to find out relationship between objective knowledge and subjective knowledge. The subjects of this study were female adults from theirs twenties to theirs forties who lived in Seoul, Kyunggi or Incheon areas and Quota sampling method was used age and areas. The data were obtained from 603 questionnaires. Data were statistically analyzed using SPSS 10 and major statistical methods are mean, frequency, Pearson correlation coefficient, and Cronbach's $\alpha$ coefficient. The results are as follows: 1. Objective knowledge consisted of the product knowledge, brand knowledge, purchase knowledge and usage knowledge, and subjective knowledge consisted of experience and self-evaluation knowledge. 2. Consumer knowledge was related to the subjective knowledge and objective knowledge. But, there was relatively a low relationship between subjective knowledge and objective knowledge of apparel.

Consumer Perception of the Korean Economic Crisis in 1998: Impacts on Purchase Behaviors of Foreign Products (소비자의 경제위기의식과 애국심이 외제품 구매행동에 미치는 영향: 1998년 우리 나라 경제위기 상황을 중심으로)

  • Economic crisis in Korea since December 1997 had tremendously affected consumer behavior. This study examined consumer perception of the economic crisis and investigated its impacts on consumer ethnocentrism and purchase behaviors of foreign products. Two product categories of clothing and cosmetics were selected fro empirical testing. Data were obtained from a questionnaire survey to female consumers in Korea during September 1998, and 468 responses were analyzed. The consumer perception of the economic crisis(PCEP) scale was developed for the study. Correlation and regression analyses revealed: 1) the positive relationship between PCEP and consumer ethnocentrism(ETHN); 2) the positive effects of attitude toward foreign products(ATTI) on actual purchase of foreign products since the economic crisis(PB) and on purchase intention of foreign products(PI) for both clothing and cosmetics; 3) the negative effect of ETHN on PI for both product categories; and 4) the negative effects of PCEP on PB and PI for clothing.

Effect of Individual Differences on Online Review Perception and Usage Behavior: The Need for Cognitive Closure and Demographics

  • This article examines how individual differences on the need for cognitive closure and demographics influence consumer perception and the usage of consumer reviews in online shopping. Data were randomly collected from 2,381 U.S. online consumer review users through an online survey. The findings from multiple regression analyses revealed the different effects of the need for cognitive closure dimensions (i.e., preference for order and structure, preference for predictability, discomfort with ambiguity, closed-mindedness, and decisiveness) and demographic characteristics on consumer attitudes, perceived online review influence, benefits, persuasiveness, and review usage behavior. Finally, practical implications and prospects for future research are discussed.
