  • It has been conjectured that, on a compact 3-dimensional manifold, a critical point of the total scalar curvature functional restricted to the space of constant scalar curvature metrics of volume 1 is Einstein. In this paper we find a sufficient condition that a critical point is Einstein. This condition is equivalent for a critical point ot be conformally flat. Its relationship with the Fisher-Marsden conjecture is also discussed.

  • In this paper, we study conformally flat (${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$)-metrics in the form $F={\alpha}(1+{\sum_{j=1}^{m}}\;a_j({\frac{\beta}{\alpha}})^j)$ with $m{\geq}2$, where ${\alpha}$ is a Riemannian metric and ${\beta}$ is a 1-form on a smooth manifold M. We prove that if such conformally flat (${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$)-metric F is of weakly isotropic scalar curvature, then it must has zero scalar curvature. Moreover, if $a_{m-1}a_m{\neq}0$, then such metric is either locally Minkowskian or Riemannian.

  • We show that on a compact locally conformal K$\ddot{a}$hler manifold $M^{2n}$ (dim $M^{2n}\;=\;2n\;{\geq}\;4$), $M^{2n}$ is K$\ddot{a}$hler if and only if its conformal scalar curvature k is not smaller than the scalar curvature s of $M^{2n}$ everywhere. As a consequence, if a compact locally conformal K$\ddot{a}$hler manifold $M^{2n}$ is both conformally flat and scalar flat, then $M^{2n}$ is K$\ddot{a}$hler. In contrast with the compact case, we show that there exists a locally conformal K$\ddot{a}$hler manifold with k equal to s, which is not K$\ddot{a}$hler.

  • The aim of the present paper is to study the ${\delta}$-Lorentzian trans-Sasakian manifold endowed with semi-symmetric metric connections admitting ${\eta}$-Ricci Solitons and Ricci Solitons. We find expressions for the curvature tensor, the Ricci curvature tensor and the scalar curvature tensor of ${\delta}$-Lorentzian trans-Sasakian manifolds with a semisymmetric-metric connection. Also, we discuses some results on quasi-projectively flat and ${\phi}$-projectively flat manifolds endowed with a semi-symmetric-metric connection. It is shown that the manifold satisfying ${\bar{R}}.{\bar{S}}=0$, ${\bar{P}}.{\bar{S}}=0$ is an ${\eta}$-Einstein manifold. Moreover, we obtain the conditions for the ${\delta}$-Lorentzian trans-Sasakian manifolds with a semisymmetric-metric connection to be conformally flat and ${\xi}$-conformally flat.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the geometry of complete gradient Yamabe soliton (Mn, g, f, λ) with constant scalar curvature admitting a non-homothetic conformal vector field V leaving the potential vector field invariant. We show that in such manifolds the potential function f is constant and the scalar curvature of g is determined by its soliton scalar. Considering the locally conformally flat case and conformal vector field V, without constant scalar curvature assumption, we show that g has constant curvature and determines the potential function f explicitly.

  • In [3] and [4], Kitahara, Pak and the author obtained the conformally invariant tensor $B_0$, which is an algebraic Hermitian analogue of the Weyl conformal curvature tensor W in the Riemannian geometry, by the decomposition of the curvature tensor H of the Hermitian connection and the notion of semi-curvature-like tensors of Tanno (see[7]). In [5], the author defined a conformally invariant tensor $B_0$ on a Hermitian manifold as a modification of $B_0$. Moreover he introduced the notion of local conformal Hermitian-flatness of Hermitian manifolds and proved that the vanishing of this tensor $B_0$ together with some condition for the scalar curvatures is a necessary and sufficient condition for a Hermitian manifold to be locally conformally Hermitian-flat.

  • We study rigidity results for the Einstein metrics as the critical points of a family of known quadratic curvature functionals involving the scalar curvature, the Ricci curvature and the Riemannian curvature tensor, characterized by some pointwise inequalities involving the Weyl curvature and the traceless Ricci curvature. Moreover, we also provide a few rigidity results for locally conformally flat critical metrics.

  • The object of the present paper is to characterize generalized Ricci recurrent (GR4) spacetimes. Among others things, it is proved that a conformally flat GR4 spacetime is a perfect fluid spacetime. We also prove that a GR4 spacetime with a Codazzi type Ricci tensor is a generalized Robertson Walker spacetime with Einstein fiber. We further show that in a GR4 spacetime with constant scalar curvature the energy momentum tensor is semisymmetric. Further, we obtain several corollaries. Finally, we cite some examples which are sufficient to demonstrate that the GR4 spacetime is non-empty and a GR4 spacetime is not a trivial case.

  • The notion of quasi-Einstein manifolds arose during the study of exact solutions of the Einstein field equations as well as during considerations of quasi-umbilical hypersurfaces. For instance, the Robertson-Walker spacetimes are quasi-Einstein manifolds. The object of the present paper is to study Lorentzian quasi-Einstein manifolds. Some basic geometric properties of such a manifold are obtained. The applications of Lorentzian quasi-Einstein manifolds to the general relativity and cosmology are investigated. Theories of gravitational collapse and models of Supernova explosions [5] are based on a relativistic fluid model for the star. In the theories of galaxy formation, relativistic fluid models have been used in order to describe the evolution of perturbations of the baryon and radiation components of the cosmic medium [32]. Theories of the structure and stability of neutron stars assume that the medium can be treated as a relativistic perfectly conducting magneto fluid. Theories of relativistic stars (which would be models for supermassive stars) are also based on relativistic fluid models. The problem of accretion onto a neutron star or a black hole is usually set in the framework of relativistic fluid models. Among others it is shown that a quasi-Einstein spacetime represents perfect fluid spacetime model in cosmology and consequently such a spacetime determines the final phase in the evolution of the universe. Finally the existence of such manifolds is ensured by several examples constructed from various well known geometric structures.
