Similarity Analysis of Indonesia Caldera to Mount Baekdu (인도네시아 칼데라 화산과 백두산의 유사성 분석)

  • Caldera is a large depression commonly formed by collapse of the ground following explosive eruption of a large body of stored magma. On earth, calderas and caldera complexes range in size from kilometers to tens of kilometers. Historical eruptions associated with caldera collapse have led to huge fatalities in Indonesia as well as left global impacts. This study presents case study on calderas in Indonesia which resembles to Mount Baekdu located at the border of China and North Korea; in the perspectives of similar characteristics, principal hazard, recent symptom of volcanic activity and the threat if eruption occurs in the near future. Calculation by using weighted evaluation matrix for Mount Krakatau, Mount Tambora, Mount Ijen, Tengger Caldera, Mount Rinjani and Ranau Caldera were taken for the selection of a site for future case study.

A Parametric Study of Deflection Analysis of the Prestressed Concrete One-Way Slab for Serviceability Assessment (사용성 평가를 위한 프리스트레스트 콘크리트 일방향 슬래브의 처짐 변수 해석)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the deflection for serviceability assessment of the prestressed concrete one-way slab using finite element program. Proposed finite element analysis method was verified comparing with existing experimental results, and it showed a good agreement. Also, a parametric study has been conducted to analyze the influence of concrete compressive strength, eccentricity, live load, and tendon profile. The finite element analysis results were compared with hand calculation results. Deflections were decreased as the concrete compressive strength increases, eccentricity increases, and the live load decreases. The deflection of straight tendon was smallest. And regression analysis has been conducted to analyze the correlation between parameters and camber.

  • In this study, The purpose of this study is to experimentally investigate the shear behavior of reinforced flat plate embedded with GFRP(glass fiber reinforced polymer) plate with openings. The GFRP shear reinforcement is manufactured into a plate shape with several openings to ensure perfect integration with concrete. The test was performed on 7 specimens. the parameters include the type of reinforcement and amount of the shear reinforcement., From the test, we analysed the crack, failure mode, Strain, load-displacement graph. a calculation of the shear strength of reinforced flat plate with GFRP plate based on the ACI 318-11 was compared with the test results. The results of the experiment indicate that GFRP plate is successfully applied as a shear reinforcement in the flat plate under punching shear.

Notional-Load Plastic-Hinge Method for Steel Structure Design (강구조 설계를 위한 가상하중 소성활절 해석)

  • This paper presents practical notional-load plastic-hinge method for a two-dimensional steel structure design. The proposed method incorporates the refined plastic-hinge concept for spread of plasticity together with a practical notional-load approach. The proposed method can assess realistically both strength and behavior of a structural system and its individual members in a direct manner. As a result, the method can be used for design without tedious separate member capacity checks, including the calculation of K-factor. The strengths predicted by the proposed method are then compared with those predicted by the exact plastic-zone analysis as well as by the conventional LRFD procedure. A good agreement is generally observed. The displacement predictions are compared with the plastic-zone solutions. Analysis and design guidelines in using the proporsed method are given in detail. Analysis and design procedures are recommended. Member sizes determined by the proposed method are compared with those determined by the LRFD method. It is concluded that the procedures are suitable for adoption in practice.

Elastic Wave Field Calculations (탄성파의 변형 및 응력 계산에 관한 연구)

  • Calculation of elastic wave fields has important applications in a variety of engineering fields including NDE (Non-destructive evaluation). Scattering problems have been investigated by numerous authors with different solution schemes. For simple geometries of the scatterers (e.g., cylinders or spheres), the analysis of steady-state elastic wave scattering has been carried out using analytical techniques. For arbitrary geometries and multiple inclusions, numerical methods have been developed. Special finite element methods, e.g., the infinite element method and a hybrid method called the Global-Local finite element method have also been developed for this purpose. Recently, the boundary integral equation method has been used successfully to solve scattering problems. In this paper, a volume integral equation method (VIEM) is proposed as a new numerical solution scheme for the solution of general elasto-dynamic problems in unbounded solids containing multiple inclusions and voids or cracks. A boundary integral equation method (BIEM) is also presented for elastic wave scattering problems. The relative advantage of the volume and boundary integral equation methods for solving scattering problems is discussed.

Dynamic Optimal Design of Continuous Beams (연속보의 동적 최적설계에 관한 연구)

  • The main purpose of this paper is to investigate the dynamic optimal design of continuous beams. The computer-aided optimization technique is used to obtain the near-optimal parameters of continuous beam. The computer program is developed to obtain the natural frequency parameters and the forced vibration responses to a transit point load for the continuous beam with variable support spacing, mass and stiffness. The model test data is in good agreement with the computer calculation, which serves to validate the mathematical analysis. The optimization function to describe the design efficiency is defined as a linear combination of four dimensionless span characteristics; the maximum dynamic stress; the stress difference between span segments; the rms deflection under the transit point load; and the total span mass. Studies of three span beams show that the beam with near-optimal parameters can improve design efficiency when compared to a uniform beam with even spacing of the same total span length.

Mechanical Properties of High Stiffness Shear Connector (고강성 스터드볼트의 역학적 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The headed studs used extensively for steel-composite construction are specified as SS400 in the current Korean Standard specification considering the welding condition. And the corresponding equation for the shear force calculation is limited for the use of compression strength of concrete below $300kgf/cm^2$. However, it is expected that the high strengthening and precasting of both steel and concrete due to the necessity of shear connector or other connecting material for the combination of steel and concrete. Therefore, the experimental results obtained during the development process of high strength stud for the connection of high strength concrete and the steel member are reported in this paper. Also the effectiveness of newly developed shear connector using pipe(pipe stud) to increase the stiffness of a stud is verified by comparing both the stiffness and the strength with common stud bolt through the welding ability, mechanical characteristics and experimental investigation.

Chloride Penetration into Concrete in Tidal Zone by Diffusion-Convection Analysis (확산과 이송을 고려한 콘크리트의 염소이온 침투해석)

  • Analysis of chloride penetration into concrete is performed considering the repeated wetting and drying conditions of tidal zone, by means of the developed finite element program which enables the diffusion-convection analysis to be conducted. Heat conduction and moisture diffusion are also included in the finite element analysis program in order that their effects to chloride penetration may be considered. For the efficiency of calculation, the analyses of temperature, relative humidity and free chloride concentration are conducted successively in that order, by treating the convection of chloride due to moisture diffusion as an source or sink term. By comparing the analysis result from finite element analysis, where main variable is a wetting and drying period, with the chloride profiles from ACI Life-365 method, it is shown that the Life-365 method gives an accurate result for the submerged zone but does not consider the differences of wetting and drying period. To obtain an accurate chloride profile in the tidal zone, it is confirmed that the diffusion-convection finite element analysis should be applied.

Decision Making Process for Wind Barrier Installation Considering Car Accident Risk (차량사고 위험도를 고려한 방풍벽 설치기준)

  • This study presents a decision making process for installation of wind barrier which is used to reduce the wind acting on running vehicle on expressway. At the first stage of this study, the lateral deviations of running vehicles under side winds were computed from the commercial softwares, CarSim and TruckSim, and then the critical wind speeds for car accident were evaluated from predefined risk index. To determine whether it is needed to install wind barrier or not, cost and benefit from wind barrier are calculated during lifetime. In obtaining car accidental risk, probabilistic distribution of wind speed, daily traffic volume, mixture ratio in the volume, and duration time for wind speed range are considered. It is recommended to install wind barrier if benefit from the barrier installation exceed construction cost. In the numerical examples, case studies were shown for risk and benefit calculation and main risky regions on Korean highway were all evaluated to identify the number of installation sites.

Seismic Fragility Analysis of Lightning Arrester using Capacity Spectrum Method (역량스펙트럼 방법을 이용한 피뢰기의 지진취약도 해석)

  • In this paper, seismic fragility analysis of lightning arrester is performed using capacity spectrum method(CSM). Since seismic fragility analysis of structure with many structural members is required to calculate many inelastic responses for several tens or hundreds of ground motions, simple method such as CSM is more appropriate than response history analysis(RHA). In general, accuracy of seismic response evaluated by CSM is less than that by RHA. In order to increase accuracy of CSM, equivalent SDOF method and performance point calculation technique are applied to CSM. Seismic fragility method proposed by Shinozuka et al. is used. In order to evaluate site effect of ground motions on seismic fragility, 60 different site classification earthquakes are selected as input ground motions. From the seismic fragility curves of lightning arrester evaluated by CSM and RHA, it can be observed that the seismic fragility curves evaluated by CSM are very similar to those by RHA. Also, it can be observed that main seismic failure mode of lightning arrest is bushing breakage.
