  • The purpose of this research is to analyze the recognition of the curriculum experts on 2015 integrated liberal arts and natural sciences curriculum revision. Research method is a delphi survey and the subjects are curriculum experts. The research results are as follows. Firstly, experts suggested common education for all students and students' opportunities to choose subjects. Secondly, the direction of curriculum revision was different by school level. The elementary school needs to foster convergence thinking. The middle school needs to educate common basic literacy education and the high school needs both the common education and the free choice of subjects by students. Thirdly, the separation of the liberal arts and natural sciences was caused by the separate thinking of custom, tradition and study and the separate exam application on liberal arts and natural science of college scholastic ability test. The solution about separation problem of liberal arts and natural sciences have been proposed to improve mathematics education and teachers' convergence education competency. Lastly, for the establishment of an 2015, integrated curriculum the reduction of the CSAT test area and the introduction of qualifying examination for English were required.

  • As the society turns into one based on knowledge, there has been the general project of education informalization carried out. In this respect, the Seventh Common and Basic National Curriculum has adopted information and communication education which implies a broader meaning than just computer education. It also planned to make it mandatory to allocate one hour of computer class a week at the Int and second grade course and higher grades beginning at 2001, as well as to increase the initial one hour gradually by the year coming. In addition to the one hour of mandatory computer class a week, it advises teachers to use computer so that it can account for at least 10% of teaching-learning process in ten subjects per each grade which takes the Seventh Common and Basic National Curriculum. This study intended to learn about computer education curriculum at school and information and communication technology education found in the Seventh Common and Basic National Curriculum(1st∼10th grade) and to examine if they have a consistency for each grade. In addition to that, investigated the actual state of school by checking students' ability to operate computer and teachers' opinion through questionnaire survey.

  • This study attempted to analyze the achievement criteria of the 2015 special curriculum middle school physical education curriculum based on Bloom's new education goal taxonomy. To this end, 184 sentences based on the common curriculum and basic curriculum achievement standards of the relevant curriculum were analyzed into a total of 24 combinations of 4 dimensions of Bloom's new education goal taxonomy and 6 dimensions of cognitive courses. The results of the study are as follows. First, in the case of the special curriculum physical education and middle school achievement standards, unlike the analysis of the basic curriculum of elementary schools shown in previous studies, the 'procedural knowledge-applying' combination was the most common, and it was confirmed that there was a hierarchy by school level. In addition, the dimensions of knowledge and cognitive processes were relatively diverse, confirming the key points of physical education and middle school classes for disabled students. Second, in the case of the common curriculum among the lower curriculum, knowledge and cognitive process dimensions were relatively diverse except for cognitive process dimensions such as 'remember', and higher knowledge and cognitive process dimensions such as 'metacognitive knowledge' and 'creative'. Third, in the case of the basic curriculum among the lower curriculum, the 'procedural knowledge-applying' combination was excessively concentrated at 60.7%, which was analyzed to require improvementsary.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the connection among inquiry activities related to 'Metabolism' presented in life science textbooks developed according to the national common basic curriculum. To perform this, the type, process and context of inquiry activities of life science textbooks were analyzed. The number of inquiry activities is gradually increased from elementary to secondary school. As result of analysis, types, processes and skills, and context of inquiry were not balanced according to textbooks and school levels. It is suggested that the framework of evaluating inquiry activities based on curriculum objectives be provided when developing science textbooks. It also implies that teachers need to reconstruct inquiry contents and activities suitable to school situations when they teach in the real fields of education.

  • In both Korea and the U.S., science education leaders and specialists insist that there is a shortage of curricula to address the new national science education guidelines in support of reform. This paper addresses development of new curricula for science education reform in the hopes of facilitating further development of guideline-based curricula. We examine Korean and U.S. thematic-based (Korean Science Field Trip at Cultural Sites Program and U.S. Graduate Teaching Fellows in K-12 Education) and project-centered (Korean Teachers for Exciting Science and U.S. Foundational Approaches in Science Teaching Program) programs. Using the criteria of rationale for curriculum, content and scope, processes of implementation, and assessment strategies, we identify the curricular components that are common across four successful secondary science programs and determine which of these components address the national guidelines. Our findings indicate that common components of these four programs meet the expectations of the science guidelines being used to revamp science education in both countries. Therefore, these programs not only engage secondary students and teachers in practicing successful science education, but also lead to successful science education practices that can be incorporated in the future development of curriculum to support secondary science reform.

  • This study focused on searching for optimal locations for general high schools by considering the minimum move distance and the maximum student capacity upon starting a common curriculum based on a high school credit system by taking Seoul as an illustration. The main results were as follows. First, the results from P-median showed that the students' average move distance was below 625m when more than 30% of general high schools offer the common curriculum courses. In addition, the results from MCLP indicated that it was possible to hold all the students. Second, although all the universities located in Seoul open the common curriculum courses, it would not be available to hold all students. On the other hand, when more than 20% of the universities open the courses, MCLP indicated that it was possible to hold the same capacity. In addition, the Office of Education should support moving to the universities offering courses for students affiliated with high schools located in the southeastern area of Seoul and in poor transportation areas. It is expected that by suggesting a problem solving framework regarding space with a spatial optimization method, the study results can be used as a basic data for selecting schools offering common curriculum courses.
