  • The Skeleton Tower problem is an example of a curriculum that integrates algebra and geometry. Finding the number of the cubes in the tower can be approached in more than one way, such as counting arithmetically, drawing geometric diagrams, enumerating various possibilities or rules, or using algebraic equations, which makes the tasks accessible to students with varied prior knowledge and experience. So, it will be a good topic which can be used in the elementary grades if we exclude the method of using algebraic equations. The purpose of this paper is to propose some points which can be considered with attention by gifted children education teachers by analyzing the 4th Skeleton Tower problem solutions made by 3rd and 4th graders in their selection test who applied for the education of gifted children in math at J University for the year of 2010.

  • Purpose: This study was to identify predictors of drug dosage calculation error risk in newly graduated nurses. Methods: A total of 115 newly graduated nurses who passed their employment examination, but didn't work for hospital yet, were recruited from a university hospital. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, $X^2$-test, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression using the SPSS 18.0 program. Results: The mean score of 'drug dosage calculation ability' was $0.81{\pm}0.16$ and the mean score of 'certainty of calculation' was $2.95{\pm}0.60$ out of a 5 point scale. The error risk of drug dosage calculation was positively related to anxiety for drug dosage calculations (r=.388, p<.001), but negatively related to interest and confidence in mathematics (r=-.468, p<.001), confidence related to dosage calculations (r=-.426, p<.001). The main predictors of error risk related drug calculations in newly graduated nurses were identified as interest and confidence in mathematics (${\beta}$=-.468, p<.001). This factor explained about 21.9% of the variance in error risk of drug dosage calculation. Conclusion: The strategies used to decrease the error risk related drug dosage calculation such as improving interest and confidence in mathematics should be developed and implemented.

  • This study was to investigate novice teachers' Specialized Content Knowledge for Teaching in High School Calculus Lessons. The lessons of two novice teachers in Kyunggi Do were observed from July, 2011 to Feb. 2012. All observed lessons were audeotaped and transcribed into word files. Their calculus lessons were analyzed into three kinds of knowledge consisting of SCKT. Their SCKT just copied the contents of the textbook and other additional SCKT were not found for teaching. Even though students asked a question that they did not understand, the teacher just repeated the previous contents that already he used. But this study included possible contents of SCKT within the areas these teachers covered so that teachers in school may use for teaching of Calculus. The novice teacher do not have sufficient experience, the program of the college of education and the contents of the teacher certificate-examination should include multi-dimensional approaches in SCKT to pre-service teachers in order to raise better specialized teachers in mathematics.

  • The operation theory of the Wittgenstein's Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus is the essential basis of the philosophy of mathematics of the Tractatus. Wittgenstein presents the definition of cardinal numbers on the basis of operation theory, and suggests the proof of "$2{\times}2=4$" by using the theory of operations in 6.241. Therefore, in order to explicate correctly the philosophy of mathematics, it is required to understand rigorously the theory of operations in the Tractatus. Accordingly in this paper, I will endeavor to explicate operation theory of the Tractatus as a preliminary study for explicating the philosophy of mathematics of the Tractatus. In this process, we can ascertain Frascolla's important contributions and fallacies in his reconstruction of 6.241. In particular, we can understand the background that in 6.241 Wittgenstein made mistakes and that there he dealt with the addition operation of the theory of operations, and on the basis of this, we can reconstruct correctly 6.241.

  • Let C[C, D] and $S^{*}[C,\;D]$ denote the classes of functions g, g(0)=1-g'(0)0=0, analytic in the unit disc E such that $\frac{(zg{\prime}(z)){\prime}}{g{\prime}(z)}$ and $\frac{zg{\prime}(z)}{g(z)}$ are subordinate to $\frac{1+Cz}{1+Dz{\prime}}$ $z{\in}E$, respectively. In this paper, the classes K[A,B;C,D] and $C^{*}[A,B;C,D]$, $-1{\leq}B<A{\leq}1$; $-1{\leq}D<C{\leq}1$, are defined. The functions in these classes are close-to-convex. Using the properties of convolution operators, we deal with some problems for our classes.

  • By $C^{(1)}$[0, 1] we denote the Banach algebra of complex valued continuously differentiable functions on [0, 1] with norm given by $${\parallel}f{\parallel}=\sup_{x{\in}[0,1]}({\mid}f(x){\mid}+{\mid}f^{\prime}(x){\mid})\text{ for }f{\in}C^{(1)}$$. By A we denote the sub algebra of $C^{(1)}$ defined by $$A=\{f{\in}C^{(1)}:f(0)=f(1)\text{ and }f^{\prime}(0)=f^{\prime}(1)\}$$. By an isometry of A we mean a norm-preserving linear map of A onto itself. The purpose of this article is to describe the isometries of A. More precisely, we show tht any isometry of A is induced by a point map of the interval [0, 1] onto itself.

  • In 3-dimensional Euclidean space, the geometric figures of a regular curve are completely determined by the curvature function and the torsion function of the curve, and surfaces are the fundamental curved spaces for pioneering study in modern geometry as well as in classical differential geometry. In this paper, we define parametrizations for surface by using parametric functions whose images are in the normal plane of each point on a given curve, and then obtain some results relating the Gaussian curvature of the surface with curvature and torsion of the given curve. In particular, we find some conditions for the surface to have either nonpositive Gaussian curvature or nonnegative Gaussian curvature.

  • A rational number as operator is eventually that it is considered a mapping. Depending on how selecting domain (the target of operation by rational number) and codomain (including the results of operations by rational number), it is possible to see the rational in two aspects. First, rational numbers can be deal with functions if we choose the target of operation by rational number as a number field containing rationals. On the other hand, if we choose the target of operation by rational number as integral domain $\mathbb{Z}$, then rational numbers can be regarded as partial functions on $\mathbb{Z}$. In this paper, we regard the rational numbers with a view of partial functions, we investigate the theoretical background of the relationship between the multiplication of rational numbers and the composition of rational numbers as operators.
