  • Alexithymia represents deficits in the cognitive processing and regulation of emotions. It is observed in many cases of psychosomatic disease, anorexia nervosa, panic disorder, depression etc. Many studies have shown that alexithymia is associated with maladaptive styles of emotion regulation, low emotional intelligence, interhemispheric transfer deficit, and reduced rapid eye movement density. Psychotherapies that enhance emotional awareness may be effective in alleviating the difficulties of alexithymic individuals. Aexithymia is useful for constructing the role of personality and emotions in the pathogenesis of psychiatric disorders. It may serve as a bridge between neurobiology and psychology. We review recent alexithymia theory and research and their implications for treatment of psychosomatic disorders.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of mother's acceptance parenting attitude and optimism on children's self-regulation including cognitive, emotional, and behavioral regulation. Methods: The subjects were 361 3, 4, 5 - year - old children and their mothers who attended to the early childhood education institutions. One-way ANOVA was conducted to find out age differences in self-regulation. The regression analysis were conducted to find out whether the mother's optimism could predict their children's self-regulation. The stepwise regression analysis were conducted to find out whether the mother's acceptance parenting attitude could predict their children's self-regulation. Results: As for the self-regulation, there were significant age differences in the cognitve regulation and the behavioral regulation, but not in the emotional regulation. It implies that the abilities of cognitive and behavioral regulation increase as the age level goes up. As for the relations between mother's optimism and their children's self-regulation, only the permanence factor of the mother's optimism predicted children's cognitive, emotional, and behavioral regulation. As for the relations between mother's acceptance parenting attitude and their children's self-regulation, two components of mother's acceptance parenting attitude (unconditionally love & right) could predict children's cognitive, emotional, and behavioral regulation. The component of unique could predict the cognitive and emotional regulation. Conclusion/Implications: These results suggest that mother's optimism and acceptance parenting attitude positively affect on the development of self-regulation ability in children.

  • The tonal music organizes the tones based on the hierarchy of the relative importance of musical tones. So listeners who are familiar with a certain musical style internalize the tonal schema of that music in mind, though they have no formal training about these organizing principles. This research examined how the western music experts who are not familiar with classical Korean music interpret classical Korean music. In the other researches about musical styles outside the western music, the superficial informations such as the distribution and the duration of tones in the experimental stimulus might be used as cues to extract the tonal schema of that music. In this study, these superficial informations were controlled in order to reduce this possibility. The results showed that the western music experts might interpret classical Korean music with the tonal schema of western music. but, thought the western music experts perceived classical Korean music on the base of the western musical framework and so their interpretation was not match with the tonal schema of classical Korean music. their interpretation was more similar to classical Korean tonal schema than the non-musicians interpretation of classical Korean music. These results suggested that the extensive experiences in a specific musical style can facilitate the listeners proper apprehension of the other musical styles.

  • This study is to investigate how do elementary students' eye movements appear in cognitive process that they perceive science learning materials depending on motivation system of science learning. For this study we had a random sampling of 301, 6th grade students. And we had selected 32 students through the three tests for the final; motivation system test of science learning, a learning styles test, an Edinburgh inventory for handedness test. We were analysis the cognitive process during learning tasks for the selected student using eye-tracking equipment. The results of the research are as follows: First, when students see a science learning material, we found out that SL-BAS group that has tendency searched various areas than SL-BIS group in learning task. Second, results confirmed through the data of integrational count that students looked alternately texts, images and graphs in the learning material, SL-BIS group were more than SL-BAS group on integrated count, but they had a simple and insignificant eye movement. Especially SL-BAS students showed that integrated eye movement between texts, images and graphs in the learning material, and they explored important areas of the graph compared with SL-BIS group that there was no eye movement in graph. These results may be utilized as a useful resource for designing students' learning.

  • The Self-reported Evaluation tool developed in this study allows the learners to check and evaluate their own learning by determining the details that are self-assessed. Also this tool allows learners to receive feedback on their self - evaluation results. In this study pre - post test was performed to investigate the effect of self - assessment on the learners' tendency of studying math. The result showed that Self-reported evaluation improved self - confidence, self - strategy on learning mathematics, and meta-cognitive ability. Also by conducting a qualitative analysis of the Self-reported evaluation, students practiced the cognitive activities such as summarizing the contents they have learned that day. They also tried to understand and improve the learning habit, attitude, and learning state. Teachers were also able to communicate with students by providing individual questions and feedback through student's individual Self-reported Evaluation.
