  • A numerical computation of turbulent wirling flow in a stationary pipe is presented in this work. Major concerns of this study are: 1) To approve similarity laws which were verified experimentally. 2) To investigate the effects of curvature modification for the K- .epsilon. model. To account for effects of swirl, Rodi's curvature correction and Kim & Chung's are applied. The governing differential equations for eliptic flow are discretized by control volume formulation method, and the discretized equations are calculated ay line by line TDMA and SIMPLE algorithm. The computational results also satisfy similarity laws which are based on swirl angle as in experiments. And the curvature modification of Rodi improves compuational accuacy than the standard K- .epsilon. model. But such lower order closure models are not adequate for the prediction of this complex flow.

  • Since 1973, 40 patients with Patent Ductus Arteriosus were operated in The Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Korea University Medical College. Clinical analysis of these cases: 1. Age ranged from 8 months old to 28 years old Sex ratio was 22 females to 18 males. 2. Pulse pressure widening above 50 mmHg was appeared in 27 patients. In 31 patients, continuous machinery murmur was heard on left second and third intercostal space, but 9 patients has holosystolic murmur on left sternal border. 3. Retrograde Aortography was performed in 11 patients and right heart catheterization, 17 patients, In 8 patients, pulmonary hypertension [above 30 mmHg in` systole] was noted. 3 out of 8 patients was combined with Ventricular Septal Defect. Severe pulmonary hypertension [above 80mmHg in systole] was presented in 3 patients. 4. In 38 patients, operative method was performed with multiple suture ligation of PDA, and in 2 patients, suture closure through pulmonary arteriotomy under cardiopulmonary bypass. 5. One operative death occurred in a patient in this group. Cause of death was right heart failure after multiple suture ligation of PDA and pulmonary artery bandings.

  • Purpose. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between typing speed required dexterity of hand and visual perception. Method. We studied 50 people who were not experience of hand injury in K university. Typing speed, hand dexterity and visual perception were measured using purdue pegboard test, MVPT-3 and 'Cheongsando' in Hancom typing program. Results analysis was used Pearson correlation coefficient of the SPSS 10.0. Result. In this study, the typing speed showed a positive correlation with the figure ground, but there was no correlation visual closure and visual discrimination. Conclusion. Typing speed was correlated with hand dexterity and figure ground. Therefore, utilizing a computer keyboard at treatment can be expected to enhance hand function and visual perception.

  • In this paper, numerical simulation of cavitation flow for modified NACA66 hydrofoil was made by using the multi-phase RANS equation based on pseudo-compressibility. The Homogeneous mixture model comprised of the mixture continuity, mixture momentum and liquid volume fraction equations was utilized. A vertex-centered finite-volume method was used in conjunction 2nd-order Roe's FDS to discretize the inviscid fluxes. The viscous fluxes were computed based on central differencing The Spalart-Allmaras one equation model was employed for the closure of turbulence. Reasonable agreements were obtained between the calculation results and the experiment for pressure coefficients on the hydrofoil surface.

  • Kikukawa's compliance method using the conventional crack mouth clip-on gauge was proposed as a desired measurement technique to monitor the notched specimen fatigue behavior. The measurement technique makes it possible to continuously monitor the initiation and growth of incipient small part-through crack originated at the notch root and the phenomenon of crack closure. The variarion of natural flaw geometry with fatigue cycling was investigated. The test results on 7075-T6 aluminium alloy suggest the dependence of effective stress intensity factor range ratio .upsilon. on the maximum stress intensity factor .KAPPA.max.

  • We employ the Galerkin method to solve the nonlinear Urysohn integral equation (1.1) x(t) = f(t) + $∫_{D}$ k(t, s, x(s))ds (t $\in$ D), where D is a bounded domain in $R^{d}$ , the function f and k are known and x is the solution to be determined. We assume that D has a locally Lipschitz boundary ([1, p. 67]). We can rewrite (1.1) in operator notation as x = f + Kx. We consider (1.1) as an operator equation on $L_{\infty$}$(D) and assume that K is defined on the closure $\Omega$ of a bounded open set $\Omega$$L_{\infty}$(D). Throughout our analysis we put the following assumptions on (1.1).(omitted)(1.1).(omitted)

  • A Navier-stokes based finite volume method has been developed to analyze an incompressible, steady state, turbulent wall-jet flow. The standard k-e model, the RNG ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ model and their nonlinear counterparts are adopted as a closure relationship. Comparison with the experimental data shows that a linear ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ model performs satisfatorily for two-dimensional wall-jet flows. However, as the flow becomes three dimensional, the linear model fails to predict the spanwise jet growth accurately and the nonlinear model needs to be adopted to capture three-dimensional flow characteristics.

  • The most desirable healing process for endodontic therapy is apical closure by hard tissue such as dentine or cementum. Then, we estimated hard tissue conductivity of tetracalcium phosphate (4CP)/dicalcium phosphate (2CP) compound using mandibular first molars of SD rats. Residual pulp responses to the calcium phosphate compound were examined at several amputation levels of pulp. 2CP was purchased and passed through a $32-\mu\textrm{m}$ sieve. 4CP was obtained from a stoichiometric mixture of 2CP and calcium carbonate (Mol ratio: Ca/P=2.0) by the dry synthetic method at 1, 400(C for 8 hours.(omitted)

  • In order to predict the internal void closing behavior in open die forging process, multiple scale modeling has been developed and applied. The huge size difference between ingot and inner void makes it almost impossible to simultaneously model the actual loading conditions and the void shape. Multiple scale modeling is designed to integrate macro- and micro- models effectively and efficiently. The void closing behavior was simulated at 39 different locations in a large ingot during upsetting and cogging. The correlation between the closing behavior and variables such as effective plastic strain and maximum compressive strain was studied in order to find an efficient measure for predicting the soundness of the forging.

  • Although landfill has been heavily relied upon as a final hazardous waste disposal method in Korea, the legal and technical problems associated with the landfill severely hinder proper disposal of hazardous wastes. The single largest legal problem is simply that, in spite of the recent amendments, the law regulating the hazardous waste landfill is yet in its primitive stage that even the lawful landfill sites cannot be regarded safe. The technical problems include improper selection of landfill sites, poor design and construction of landfill facilities, and lack of QA/AC and post-closure cares. These technical problems stem from inexperience and lack of resources. For the reduction of the potential danger from the improper landfills of hazardous wastes, it is an immediate need to further refine the law and to resolve the technical problems.
